Hello Sean, I haven't been able to leave a comment for so long as too much has been going on with my Health but it's been so good to have you to keep. me going on. DHB is sending me closer to home tomorrow. I'LL be so much closer to home. It has been so good watching you and reading all your comment as well. My head is still very delusional after all the anesthetics I've had so keep well and happy with your gardening.
I want you all to know how much I appreciate everyone’s kindness . We are a good group .If one of us is feeling down or sick people send love and prayers . I love it here . Sean brings out the best in people . I send you all a big hug .
Just a tip for anyone putting a wooden post in the ground with post dement - if you put a plastic bag in the hole first, your post will last for years longer.
Hi there, I have perennial leeks, which are cut and come again. I harvest all before winter and clean, slice and freeze them. Works a treat and I always have leeks on hand 😊
It's been a challenging winter but I am definitely trying to keep my disappointment to a minimum. I look at Los Angeles and it puts my problems into perspective.
If you are getting cramp and are having difficulty sleeping through the night you are probably low in magnesium.I recommend buying a full spectrum magnesium blend as the cheaper ones are pretty useless.
"Two things done, I'm on fire.".....that got me good....and ..." worse things happen at sea."...thanks Sean..an unexpected laugh is good for you.....I do a journal page daily...and add garden Ideas.I draw a 3" sketch of my idea, on the journal page ....or ...on a post it note, and keep it with my garden folder for ideas. Thank you for the video you keep us inspired.❤
Sean I can understand what you mean ,when you said that you want to get the homestead done so you can enjoy The fruits of your Labour. You sound in better spirits then you did in your previous video.keep moving forward with a clear path in your mind and know it's all going to come together. And the moral of the story is that you can be more successful by doing things slowly and steadily than by acting quickly and carelessly.Slow and steady wins the race.
Hi Sean Just a couple of suggestions for you. Place your rain gauge top above the whatever you affix it to so that there is no rain shadow on it. I have my veg tiding area by my compost so that any trimmings go straight on it, also the composting area is at the centre of my plot so that I only have to move compost a max of half my plot (50 ft).🦊
I also have the Boifun camera on my allotment. It's great for the price. Even with these grey London days it's yet to go below about 35% battery. One sunny day and it charges almost fully.
a few summers ago my sister took me. to a lavender nursery near her home in Kent - Downderry Nursery. maybe an idea for your plants? they were exceptionally high quality and mine are still going strong. they are a bit of work but lovely for path edging with the aroma and the bees of course. you'll probably need to add a load of grit to your soil so factor that cost in too 🙂
Funny you mentioned buying plants and the sense of hope! This afternoon I ordered some new houseplants to tide me over and give me a sense of hope. Just as a massive snowstorm is bearing down on us!!! Going on a warm holiday next week so will get a fix of beautiful plants and flowers!
Hope the year of the Wood Snake is good for you this year Sean, starts tomorrow, only 27c here in Thailand today, my bananas will be ready in a week! Lovely. ☺️
Sean it's been a rough year weather-wise everywhere . UK and Wales and Ireland have been hit hard, as has California where I live. Take it slow and steady ... Spring will come.
Thanks for the great tip about the simm card pin thingy, Sean. I'm always losing the blasted things. Now, I've followed your suggestion and tucked one in the back of my phone !
Hi Sean, enjoyed this one. It sounds like you're chatting away to a friend as you mull things over, which is good to listen to. Garden is coming along nicely, doing a little often seems to be working. I've increased my lavender plants by doing cuttings so that could be a cheaper option once you've bought a few plants. Hope you enjoyed your lunch 😁
Lavender, just a thought to save money and realise your vision why not buy a couple of mature plants of the type you want. I successfully propagated french butterfly lavender from cuttings, just with a dab of rooting power potted up, then planted out a couple of months later & had a path edged in just a year, I've been really pleased with the result and this lavender for me has not grown out of hand nice compact plants.
I have 5 Reolink cameras around the house for security but they are all a couple of years old. Some of the newest ones are absolutely amazing, charge quickly and have very sharp night vision. Just too expensive to upgrade at the moment but I will when I get the chance.
Hello, may I give you some advice re: cramps and how to ease the muscle? My physio told me, some years ago, to take long, deep breaths. If you can breathe from your diaphragm, it helps to relax and ease the lactic acid; oxygen aids this release. I find it works for me. It can be difficult to do when the pain is extreme but it may help you to try this technique. Back in the day, you could go to Holland & Barrett and buy tiny little magnesium tablets, they weighed them out and put them in a paper bag for you. Taking one of those used to result in instant cramp relief but sadly, they appear to have put a stop to stocking them. Love to Amber and Topsy.
Nice to see you down the homestead. That felt dosent look great quality that came with the the summer house. From experience i have 4 sheds i use the best quality heavy gritty type i have 3 dine with that these sheds are facing the sea and are still in tact after many years of massive storms The 4th shed unfortunately had lightweight cheaper stuff which has totally dissappeared in this latest storm Never again will i get cheaper stuff 😢
In my local supermarket leeks cost AUD $4,90, EACH, the equivalent of £2.50. I don't know if I would have any success growing them here, but will have a try.
When we moved from London to just outside Bristol years ago, we were amazed as we felt there was so much more rainfall. The last two holidays we’ve had in Salcombe Devon also resulted in a rainy holiday. I suffered from SAD badly whilst living in the South West of the country, but there was considerable improvement when moving back to the South East.
@seanjamescameron please expand. My late brother used to have an allotment, he grew all sorts. Unfortunately, I live in a flat and can't even grow cress on the windowsill. I did not inherit the green fingers 😐
Bet the leeks smelt lovely.. you have a few tasks to do so you're going to be busy. Noticed the bird table had blown over we get that a lot we have them weighted down with wall bricks 😅. I'd put the table next to where you are going to have the compost bins that way you can put the waste straight in but it's entirely up to you 😊 . Couldn't you use one of the white tables i thought you had two, just to save you a bit of money just a thought. 😊
My Dad always guesstimated how much rainfall was had at the allotment, by using the septic tank, with a floating plastic coke bottle in it. It gave him two readings which were, a little or a lot.😂
Hi Sean, thanks for the vlog. The weather should get a bit better before too long and you will soon start to see progress again. Fingers crossed your solar panel is ok and hasn’t suffered any serious damage. I can’t wait to see the place planted and the paths in, the arch and gate up, the greenhouse built and the summerhouse in commission. I know that’s months of work but you will get there. That summer house is going to be such a great asset. A room with a view. I am so jealous. I reckon it will be just as useful in winter as in summer. Once it’s sealed up, insulated and lined with a little settee cum bunk and a table and maybe a little multi fuel stove in the corner. It will be sooo nice to spend time down there even in winter. In nature, relaxing or reading, writing or working. What an ideal creative environment. Some nice warm lined curtains, a bookshelf, a radio and a little gas stove to boil the kettle. Perfect place for an afternoon siesta. Warm and cosy with a coal stove damped down and glowing low in the corner. A comfy bunk with a feather cushion and an old wool blanket. There is a pleasant young chap on You Tube with a camper van blog called “brettman valleyvan”. He has a small cast iron solid fuel stove in his van which would be perfect for you. The make/model of his stove is a Little Lenny, (perfect apart from the cost). Anyway, keep on keeping on Sean. As always thanks for the entertainment and looking forward to the new gardening hints and tips vlog. Great year ahead. A beautiful and bountiful plot with lots of veggies, fruit and flowers. A successful new channel and an ever expanding success of this one. The cottage garden established and the cottage ever more cosy and comfortable. And last but not least a gradually reducing silhouette in the mirror. We are all rooting for you amigo. You have the fortitude, you certainly have the creativity. You spread a lot of joy Sean. Quiet calm and unassuming telly. Keep it up … please.
Planting those leeks was such a great idea...fabulous soil. It's so nice to have something to bring home from your own garden.....garlic would be good too.
Looking forward to a few days of better weather so you can get some more satisfaction at the homestead. Don’t forget to record your produce tally after picking those leeks.
This January seems long doesn't it but not long until we will be in February and at Imbolc and half way to the Spring. 💐 Do you have your live stream running anywhere? I wasn't sure which camera it used - maybe the one you are taking back to the house. It was really lovely and calming. I did have a look to see if I could find it but wasn't able to see it so thought I'd ask (although with no pressure attached, of course). Sure if it's not running then it's because that's what is right for you and that's the most important thing! Your channel after all. 😊
hi Sean I think you have the part of the arbour you have up is the wrong way around, the angle at the top should be facing the other way so to match the angle of the top part of the arbour
Sean do you ever feel overwhelmed by giving yourself so many tasks to do? I give myself a daily checklist of no more than 5 things no matter how small or big. Helps me a lot as I get overwhelmed quite easy
I can think of a good reason to go to your recycling shop. Get a lovely chair for your summer house and then you can sit in comfort and just look out. Jobs will come soon enough . Enjoy 😉
Wonderful to see you today Sean. You’re a breath of fresh air in these chaotic days. So much happening in the USA, it’s nice to escape… Thank you for your calmness and sanity. ❤❤❤
Greetings Sean, from tropical Durban, South Africa (ex UK) I so enjoy watching your Vlog (or whatever the correct terminology may be) I also love Yorkshire Tea and stock up when I visit the UK. I will bring you some 5 Roses African Blend Tea when I visit my sister in Sussex, later this year. Wam Regards (literally) to you and the cats.
Hello Sean, I like the idea of the veg being prepared before heading home, less food scraps to crowd the kitchen sides and handier to put straight in the compost bin. It's like cutting out the middle man you might say😂 instead of faffing about taking the veg home then having to take the scraps back with you. Nice to see you have cheered up a bit and you are more enthusiastic about getting on with things at the homestead Take care Sean 💜
The Homestead is looking not too bad, all considering. The shed and summerhouse are holding up well. It seems strange that they send you a decent building but they have crappy roof coverings. Once the weather warms up you can get things fixed up. And the fun can start. My zone is 6a, so the fun won't begin until the end of March/ beginning of April. I only have garlic planted, so I'm hoping for success.. 🙂👍🇨🇦
The weather has been rubbish with all the wind and rain you have had this winter. If your water guage is made of glass be careful if it freezes. I forgot to take mine inside and it froze and broke. I have cameras all over my garden and in my greenhouse. They come in handy when you are away. Beautiful
So sorry to here that Diane, I love trees & have lost many over the years one way or another. Trees are so individual, like good old friends & you miss them when they are gone 🙋🏻♀️🇬🇧
It's looking pretty good on the Homestead, mind you, even though we've had such bad weather. The river is much higher, too. I think the lavender would look great on that patch. Yay. Spring is near!!
Did you plant the lavender that you had purchased earlier in the year for your paths already somewhere else or do you still have that to plant? I have a terrible habit of buying more plants than I need or can plant and then they end up dying or sitting in their original pots too long.
Hi Sean thankyou for your great vlog.i love lavender but did find lavender attracts wasps so I had to get rid of mine so I could sit and enjoy garden again x
Hi Sean, yes I get cramping in exactly the same place - agony I agree! I've taken to wearing long socks in bed as when my legs got cold that's when it struck! This has helped a lot. It can also be a sign of low magnesium. I do like your new Homestead webcams very nifty, I was impressed at how easy they were to set up, I like the fact they are powered by solar too. Glad you were able to retrieve your large solar panel that would have been dreadful if you'd lost that. I would definitely get a dwarf variety of lavender perhaps? Speaking from experience, I once turned a flower bed over to all different Lavenders, lovely smell but when they got bigger it was the annual cutting back that used to make my back ache what a job! It would look lovely Sean, I can see it now! Let's hope it stops raining for both of us soon! Take care and catch up soon.
Sean to do a proper job of your rooves you need to put on an under felt first this is nailed in place with appropriate over laps then the mineral felt or shingles go on top of that and can be fixed and sealed with mastic and nails if needed, the nails to use are the short galvanised clout ones that should last a good while. Waiting for rain in Wales must be the next level of insanity 😊😊😊😊😅😅😅😂
2:12 - if you add a dab of construction adhesive in the back center of the panel, then use sealant around the edges, it will remain in place even under high wind. For flexible panels, the wind creates a vacuum above the panel and sucks it up off the roof.
21:30 - most of the times if you're in a northern country (UK counts enough) the solar panel should be southern-facing. Smaller panels often don't care though.
All the hard things that come Your way.during the winter will 1 day be a memory you will look back. And there are many more Winters. to come and many more memories to make good and bad. It's like that ant, you know you have to pick yourself up. Brush yourself off and start all over again.😅
Sean what was the name of those gardening videos i think from the 70's you had one on last new years eve was a chap digging and such can't remember his name. Also is the new camera a live camera i can watch live from home whenever or a record and download kind of thing as i can't find any info online about it thanks.
Hello Sean, I haven't been able to leave a comment for so long as too much has been going on with my Health but it's been so good to have you to keep. me going on. Prayers that you continue to feel better.
Bless u .hope sean appreciates ur message, and gets back to youx
Sending you prayers and healing vibes . Feel better soon .
We are all here to send you healing hugs ,love and prayers . ❤
Hi Sean it makes me smile every time I see you open the summer house door by reaching through the window feels like a carry on film😅
It seems everything is going to end up in the summerhouse , solar panels , shed greenhouse what’s next 😂😂😂
I want you all to know how much I appreciate everyone’s kindness . We are a good group .If one of us is feeling down or sick people send love and prayers . I love it here . Sean brings out the best in people . I send you all a big hug .
Thanks for the simple things you do in the garden and house. It helps to see normal things with what's going on in my country.
I used no nonsense roof sealant around all the edges of my shed roof, it just stops the wind being able to get under the felt and lift it up.
That’s good stuff . My son uses it and it is amazing
If you are getting cramp and are having difficulty sleeping through the night you are probably low in magnesium.I recommend buying a full spectrum magnesium blend as the cheaper ones are pretty useless.
I agree . I found this out also.
Amazon has Bulk Supplemts Potassium Citrate - add that to salt shaker along w/some Mg powder. No reason to shake salt w/out the other two IMO.
I always get bananas for my husband when he starts getting leg cramps. They have lots of magnesium and works right away.
I also have the Boifun camera on my allotment. It's great for the price. Even with these grey London days it's yet to go below about 35% battery. One sunny day and it charges almost fully.
Been using it for a week and it is still around 88%, very impressed.

Lucky you! I often ask myself why I live where I do! Will be lucky to see them in March. Often not til April! Enjoy!!!
Don't eat baked beans if you're working in the greenhouse. Greenhouse gasses are bad. 😁
😂😂😂😅brillant

Thank you for sharing i love gardening and cooking. Love your yard and little shed
Buy a few plants then take cuttings I know not instant but you have the enjoyment growing them
Thanks for the great tip about the simm card pin thingy, Sean. I'm always losing the blasted things. Now, I've followed your suggestion and tucked one in the back of my phone !
Keep mine on my keyring.

The lavender path sounds lovely Sean, but yes it may be a bit pricey.

Great tip about the pointy thing (is that the technical term 🤔😂) I'll remember to put one in my phone case
Sometimes cramp can be helped with slightly more salt in the diet. More magnesium may help too. (Dark Chocolate).
Lovely seeing you so focused and so inspiring🎥 thankyou ❤
When we moved from London to just outside Bristol years ago, we were amazed as we felt there was so much more rainfall. The last two holidays we’ve had in Salcombe Devon also resulted in a rainy holiday. My top tip is if you don't have a key to open your phone SIM card you can use a paperclip straighten it out👍
Spring will soon be here Sean.. Only i seen quiet a few flowering bulbs coming into bloom. 👍👍
Every 10/12yrs there's snow and bad storms so take heart on that and keep up your forward plans going .
Excuse my ignorance but whats the difference between a homestead and an allotment?
Mindset.
@seanjamescameron please expand. My late brother used to have an allotment, he grew all sorts. Unfortunately, I live in a flat and can't even grow cress on the windowsill. I did not inherit the green fingers 😐
Hi Sean, I've planted destf lavender called 'little lady '. It's very similar to Hidcote but more compact and looks and smells amazing.
That’s the one I’m looking at. How far apart did you plant them?
@seanjamescameron I was recommended to plant them 30cm apart, but actually planted them 25cm as I wanted a compact hedgerow.
Great. I'll do that. Thank you.
@seanjamescameron glad to be of help 😊. Good luck with everything, your allotment will look amazing I'm sure.
@seanjamescameron you can grow this one from seed.. think it's available at Dobies in the uk? I'm in NZ so not 100% sure. :)
Lavender in a line either side will be amazing. Can smell it now and boy the 🐝 will love you
Bet the leeks smelt lovely.. you have a few tasks to do so you're going to be busy.
😂

Hi Sean, I thought a small picket fence on each side of your gate. Lavender will
have to be pruned hard every year. Just a thought.
Bet you have had some rain since, Sean, ha ha. .nice idea having a gauge . .
as always, the camera you bought doesn't ship to Canada and only the hugely expensive cameras do.
Looking forward to a few days of better weather so you can get some more satisfaction at the homestead. Don’t forget to record your produce tally after picking those leeks.
Felt flew off on us once so hubby turned it u der at edge so wind can't get under it .

Currently not working due to lack of sunshine to run the batteries.
@ That makes sense, thanks for taking time to reply. Here's to the return of the sun!
I grew my lavender hedge from plugs via an offer in garden magazine, bargain to look out gor !
Sean what happened to the wallflowers that you planted some months ago? I planted some at the same time and they are doin* ok
Looked at them today, the need a few days of warm to perk them up, like us all.
hi Sean I think you have the part of the arbour you have up is the wrong way around, the angle at the top should be facing the other way so to match the angle of the top part of the arbour
I can assure you that is incorrect.
@doctorjive Because the top isn't flat but an 'upside down V' the slant away is correct, as Sean said. I thought the same at first!
Sean do you ever feel overwhelmed by giving yourself so many tasks to do? I give myself a daily checklist of no more than 5 things no matter how small or big. Helps me a lot as I get overwhelmed quite easy
No I don't. All makes sense to me as I know what is happening in the future.
I can think of a good reason to go to your recycling shop. Get a lovely chair for your summer house and then you can sit in comfort and just look out. Jobs will come soon enough . Enjoy 😉
Are you saving the rain for the summer
Wonderful to see you today Sean.
You’re a breath of fresh air in these chaotic days.
So much happening in the USA, it’s nice to escape…
Thank you for your calmness and sanity. ❤❤❤

Snowdrops and catkins out in the park makes me feel better. Vitamin D Spray gets me through the winter

Brush for cleaning algae. Or free brush for washing tea cups ooh
Need to get a move on Sean so the time lapse video can document progress throughout the year.
Munstead wood is a small lavender sean .Seeds are cheaper .You could plant them out next year .
The weather has been rubbish with all the wind and rain you have had this winter. If your water guage is made of glass be careful if it freezes. I forgot to take mine inside and it froze and broke. I have cameras all over my garden and in my greenhouse. They come in handy when you are away. Beautiful
That was a vicious storm ...it mangled and mutilated my lovely cypress tree so much so it has to be taken down 😢
So sorry to here that Diane, I love trees & have lost many over the years one way or another. Trees are so individual, like good old friends & you miss them when they are gone 🙋🏻♀️🇬🇧
Yes it is sad ..Ive had it for over 25 years but just one of those things I guess ..I will plant another tree 🌲
It's looking pretty good on the Homestead, mind you, even though we've had such bad weather. The river is much higher, too. I think the lavender would look great on that patch. Yay. Spring is near!!
I think the munstead variety is popular and more hardy and compact Sean. But you probably know that already 😊
Did you plant the lavender that you had purchased earlier in the year for your paths already somewhere else or do you still have that to plant? I have a terrible habit of buying more plants than I need or can plant and then they end up dying or sitting in their original pots too long.
That is in the cottage garden at home.
That would be a good name for a book- Roses and Runner Beans, gardening through the years
Hi Sean thankyou for your great vlog.i love lavender but did find lavender attracts wasps so I had to get rid of mine so I could sit and enjoy garden again x
How about a willow fence to separate the two plots? Then you could grow climbing wild roses or such like all along it for some lovely scent.
That’s a great picture you got from the new camera! Wow!
try the book in the shower 😀
A hedge would better.😊
Always A Pleasure Sean!!!! 🙏 🧘♀️🪷🕊💫✨️💞💖
It's great to see you out at the plot. The weather is a real pain this year. Nice to see the days are getting longer.
Do you not have access to anything other than the tarp roof materials.....?
Yes, wait and see next week.
I bet there are squirrels there!. 😂
Do you need a Mobile(data) Sim Card for each Camera?
Yes, 4g ideally.
@seanjamescameron Cheers Sean........will be looking for a cheap data tariff...
enjoyed that sean
Get some tonic water with quinine for your cramp, it might help 👍
I was thinking, take leeks home..take leeks home 😂 and you did ❤ lavender makes a nice hedge..and can be cut just fine as a hedge.
Waiting for rain in Wales must be the next level of insanity 😊😊😊😊😅😅😅😂
its time for a cup of tea
Always.
2:12 - if you add a dab of construction adhesive in the back center of the panel, then use sealant around the edges, it will remain in place even under high wind. For flexible panels, the wind creates a vacuum above the panel and sucks it up off the roof.
21:30 - most of the times if you're in a northern country (UK counts enough) the solar panel should be
southern-facing. Smaller panels often don't care though.
All the hard things that come Your way.during the winter will 1 day be a memory you will look back. And there are many more Winters. to come and many more memories to make good and bad. It's like that ant, you know you have to pick yourself up. Brush yourself off and start all over again.😅
👍👍😊🏴❤️
