    Went snorkeling at white sands last summer. Anna loves Pembrokeshire and after my first trip there last summer, I'd love to move there.

      @@BrendanvanSon yeah wasn't as crazy seas but felt very warm and easy to chill and nap in the camper with doors open. Scotland does have other epic ruggedness though!

    I thought the images were great! It's kind of funny I subscribe to a lot of great photography channels (yours included) and I am always blown away by the stunning videography. You guys shoot amazing drone footage for b-roll and I kind of think man I just love the footage and the photography is just a bonus. The different perspective from above is just so compelling. You and Greg do some amazing work and Nigel Danson shoots some amazing drone footage as well ... oh and Simon Baxter! Thanks for taking us to cool places! 😎

    Brendan, it looks like the TH-cam processing glitch has caught your video. There are random frames dropping into the video, 7:08 for example. I get this on every 2 or 3 videos too, I usually end up re-uploading but have now got to watch my uploaded video in full before making it public. Great video as always mate 😁

    Hey Brendan,
    again a very nice video from you. I really really like watching your channel and your pictures BUT, please please let them stay longer on screen to fully enjoy them. I know I know, I could stop the video, but that will be annoying in the long run. Rewinding, stopping, tapping again on screen to get rid of the onscreen controls (I mostly watch on a tablet), tapping again to bring controls back, tapping again to continue the video and so on and so forth.
    Why not leaving them on the screen for a longer period of time, just like your buddy Thomas Heaton does? That would so much improve the quality and enjoyment of your great videos...
    Just my 2cents.
    Greetings.
    Tom

      Thanks for the thought man. It's something I've thought about a lot, but just feel like any longer and it gets a bit boring. I might test leaving them up a bit longer though and see what happens. Cheers!

    if you can ND 15 stop, bracket, time blend/ exposure blend, then you can drop in a new sky, my only advice is drop in a sky that you took, its art.

    Maybe you should try different techniques? Bracketing? Experimenting with your white balance? Do you use any plugins in Lightroom? Also B&W can also be epic if the light isn't right (blue sky)

    • @BrendanvanSon
      @BrendanvanSon  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good points. I don't like bracketing. I find it so much more impressive to get a shot in one exposure. I don't have anything against it when others use it, but I'm just not a fan of doing it. But, yes, some good thoughts.

      @@BrendanvanSon Going back 10 years now - 2009 - I read an article by a photographer who wasn't allowed to take his digital camera to Cuba but was allowed to take a film camera. He used a technique to get better dynamic range in his film photos by scanning them onto his computer, he would then make 2 virtual copies - underexposing one & over exposing the other each by one stop before merging them into one image. The end result was better than the original single exposure. I've tried it with a scanned in paper negative (at university) and it really works (500px.com/photo/132055027/paper-portrait-3-by-anthony-da-vall) . I've done it a bunch of times with images I have shot & it works most of the time - it's a great way to fully exploit the dynamic range of your camera. You should try it.

    Hey Brendan, i noticed you use a lot of ND filters in your photography. i was looking to getting myself a set of filters as well. what do you recommend that isn't too expensive? something less than $300 maybe, haha. or maybe just the ones you use the most. i believe i remember you saying like the 6 stop ND filter is one that you use the most.

    • @BrendanvanSon
      @BrendanvanSon  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the ones I use most are a Lee filters 6 stop ND and 3 stop medium grad ND. With adapter rings and kit I think that'll run about $400

    I think what you will talk about regarding photographers from an area is about perspective. I think of this when I go to San Francisco. I grew up there, so my perspective of it will be different from someone who may be visiting. A visiting photographer will have the viewpoint of a traveler and will see things differently from someone who lives there. For me the GG Bridge exemplifies this in that I've been across it a million times, after awhile that epic luster loses it's value. As someone who lived there, my viewpoint of taking a photo may not resonate with someone who is thinking of traveling there. I'm assuming that will be your point.

    • @BrendanvanSon
      @BrendanvanSon  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That will be a point, yes. But there's more than just that.

    Brendan, you demonstrate your talent with composition several times in this video. But, in my opinion, your handling of dynamic range needs refinement. The image at 8:40 has SO MUCH promise. But you allowed the potentially wonderful highlights in the splashing water to blow out. Ouch! You could easily fix this simply by bracketing and combining two or three images in Photoshop. Same with the sun and sky - blown out colors. You could have had a sky full of vivid colors, but you allowed the sun to blow out all the saturation. I've been following you for some time, and I have witnessed your photography to be much better than some of these images in Wales.
