I show you how to calculate mean, standard deviation and standard error in Microsoft Excel. This is considered to be data processing.

This was so helpful! I can't believe that it was done in the Mac version of Excel as well! I have that version, and I can almost never find tutorials that use the Mac version.

Without seeing your spreadsheet it is hard for me to tell if there is a mistake in the way you input the formula or not. I'm not sure how you already know what the standard deviation is supposed to be? How do you know it is supposed to be 1.235 and isn't actually 0.0235? Highly unlikely that Excel is wrong, more likely that you've inadvertently selected different cells/formula. I'd input the formula from the beginning again being careful to select the desired cells.

when i calculate standard deviation. I shows my values as if they are divided by 100 for example 1.235 will show up as 0.0235. why is that? please can you explain?

Hi, if I have an uneven data set, say three groups of data with say 10, 20 and 15 in each griup, can I calculate the mean, SD and SE with the groups as a whole or individually?
It sounds like you have 3 distinct categories of data, in which case if you are calculating mean, SD and SE, you'd likely calculate for each individual group/category. Most importantly though, you should be clear about what you are using the statistics for / why as this will guide you in their application. Hope this helps!
Which standard deviation function do you use in the 2013 version? As there's a few variations
you can just manually type =stdev( then select your columns. Or you can use =stdev.s to find it. in the command =stdev.s the s means sample, so =stdev.s is the standard deviation for a sample.

Hi again, the data are actually from the same population. Does this mean I still need to calculaten for each group?
To be honest its difficult for me to answer without seeing your complete investigation since your comment leaves me wondering why you previously described there to be 3 groups - I'm sure you have justification for this and that is what should guide you as to what to use mean, SD and SE for. Refer to your research questions and consider how these statistics will help you address it.
With respect your comment is still confusing. If excel says 0.01235 and your calculator says 1.235 then they are clearly not identical. Somewhere there is an error, either human or on the program, but without seeing the data I can't tell I'm afraid.
sorry, it was 1.235 and 0.01235 not 0.0235.so this really was a difference of decimal points. if you multiply 0.01235(Excel) with 100 it is 1.235(online calculator).The answers from both excel and online calculator were identical. I was just wondering what is the logic behind the difference in decimal places. I hope this time it is clear. sorry about the confusion.
