As a mid-40s man that weighs more than 1/8 of a ton myself, who also does in-the-canopy tree work, I applaud your dedication to your trade with the added insulation that we both have. I applaud your continued dedication to arboriculture when the industry is geared toward 18-28 year olds who have never drank a beer.
Thank you, I love this work and I hope the younger generations enjoy as much as I have. I'm 55 and I hope can keep climbing for a bunch more years. Take care
Thanks Bino - for ease of future reference I've time stamped it 0:50 Basket Redirect (non-retrievable): Footlock prussik with girth hitched carabiners, one being a DMM Revolver and the other to hold a DMM Pinto pulley 4:19 Choking Redirect (non-retrievable): Footlock prussik with just one girth hitched carabiner 9:27 Retrievable Redirect
Thanks Bino. I need to start incorporating my Pinto pulley that I bought just for redirects. I climb open systems with either a Blake's on a split-tail or my HitchClimber Eccentric. I've been using a small rigging ring on medium branches. When I need to remove it from the ground & I have a nice crotch on a larger branch I use my Herbol friction saver. This winter I will order some shorter slings to use my Pinto out of the gate early next spring. Take care.
Very useful. Just bought a few slings and a pulley, been having troubles in dense canopies. Hitch climber doesn't work too well stuffed through 2 crotches.
Great video, as always Bino. Thanks. That first redirect, the basket with biner on one side and pulley on the other actually can be retrievable if you have a sewn eye or a spliced eye. Once on the ground, unclip the life support biner and clip on a small accessory biner. Then you can pull it up and it will go through the first biner, through the original tie in point, and it will catch on the pulley and pull the entire thing off the redirect point and down to the ground. (it will be an uncontrolled descent, so extra gear checks) It doesn't work with knots on climb lines generally because the knot won't go through the first biner and are very likely to catch on crotches and whatnots.
@@BinoH As a follow on, I'm sure you realize it already, but for everyone else thinking about trying it, you can't have a friction saver at your original tie in point because it wouldn't go through the first biner on the redirect and you'd end up stuck.
For a couple of reasons. When I climb MRS I usually separate my connecting points also I don't have a spliced eye and sometimes when you use a termination know it's possible that it would catch on your climbing hitch and run on you.
@@BinoH I definitely understand the termination knot possibly activating your hitch. I always found it less comfortable to spread the load out to stationary D's rather than in line onto a floating D. We're all different though, keep up the good work!
@@patrickmuzzi So true. I,m kind of big it helps a little with pressure on my hips. When I climb SRS I have no choice but to use the center. Take care!
Man we just got a ronin power ascender. It’s such a game changer, hopefully moving forward we will see more power ascenders in the industry to help with fatigue in the canopy.
Why are you using a hitch climber but clipping to your bridge?? If you'd actually utilize your equipment you wouldn't be huffing and puffing like that smfh
Even when I use the SRS I huff and puff because I'm old and out of shape. In this video I wasn't showing the hitch climber pulley but the different redirects.
I use a Teufelberger multi-sling, a Petzl Rollclip Z and a D.M.M revolver rig for Mrs redirects. Both legs of line are running over pulleys so it's the balls! I learned that one from a Mark Bridge video, 👍💪🪓🌲🇮🇪
@@BinoH Mark Bridge used a revolver rig and a pinto, I swapped the pinto for a Roll-clip Z and it's even better. Not cheap but it's smooth as silk, 👍😁💪🪓🌲🇮🇪

Thanks for the video Bino. This can be extremely useful. I'm still waiting for the video announcing your classes at this park.
Thank you!
Yes, I have shared your channel with my friend Bernie from Mexico 🇲🇽. I live in southern Ontario 🇨🇦
Awesome thank you!

thank you bino.... once again for your expert training......!!!!
You're welcome!
most excellent .. great information while showing the maneuvers .
Thank you, Joe!

This is just excellent instruction. Very detailed. Thx Bino ♡
Glad you like it!
on the first method, could i use a sling runner with caribiners ? Thanks Bino, great advice .
You bet!
If you're running a hitch climber set-up, why aren't you connecting your termination back to the pulley?

I was thinking of making a power ascender that replaces the bar on a small chainsaw, id think a 201T would run it, any thoughts?
I can get you up to the top pretty quick once it's set up.
@@WoodCutr1 that would be epic lol
@@ryandavis578 everyone has a chainsaw, everyone wants a power ascender, why not have both?
You give useful tips, Bino and I have a question: when should one prefer SRS and when - MRS? Thanks
That's up you. I like SRS more lately but I would never want to forget MRS.
One of my worries is about my kit holding my weight. After watching this my fears have gone.
Glad to hear that, take care!
