Heard it for the first time early seventies in Europe where he was popular and it is still as fresh as ever. R.I.P Roy. I never heard him playing this tune this way and it is so beautiful. He was not a gentle player and even when he played a slow number it was full of fire.
Agreed. He had his way with dynamics on stage -- could get you to lean in and listen close, create some simmering tension, and then turn on the fire and pin you against the wall. When I saw him live he played "B'rer Rabbit" and showed such clean technique that was a revelation in itself
Roy's brown Bag album with this, Lonesome fugitive, and Sweet dreams, to this day my favorite album. It came out I believe in the early 70's. Those three in a row could not be beat It's the Brown Bag version, simplistic yet miraculous Every time I lose a friend, as I am now I play him over and over and over just to make sure all those early 70's gems are with me.Then I switch over to Duane Alman with Boz Scaggs Loan me a dime!!!! LONG LOVE EARLY 70'S ROCK!!!
Sometimes I put on "Loan Me a Dime" and sit back and marvel at that recording. Incredible. Duane's playing on that song -- and the Swampers tight, dynamic playing -- is powerful. If there's a longer version of it somewhere, I'd love to hear it sooner than later.

The GREATEST ever !!!!! Roy's magic was beyond this world. His playing came straight out of his tortured soul. Crying weeping full of sorrow and pain. He just let his hauntingly beautiful bends and swells soar straight up to God. Tell me who else stirs the emotions like this Grand Master did???? I'll wait.
