  • So this is my review after owning my GPD Winmini 8840u for two weeks.
I really beleive this can be my All in One PC!
I really love the form factor and it's much more comfortable than the GPD Win 4.
Don't get me wrong, the Win 4 is also amazing but this one just outdoes the Win 4 in many ways.
Watch and find out what this micro Powerhouse can do!!!!!

Glad you sorted the screen with a windows re-install. I just got mine and am very impressed with it too, but I have a few questions if you don't mind!
I re-installed windows right away after activating the windows licence, installed GPD's driver collection from their site, Motion Assistant, the AMD software and RTSS. Getting around 50-70 fps 1080p mostly medium settings in Diablo IV at 20W, definitely could tweak for more but seems pretty good to me. Do you use the AMD software to alter graphics settings? I assume if a game offers FSR leaving in 1080p and using that is better than lowering resolution and setting FSR on using the AMD software? Seems to work well for games that don't have native support though.
What screen protector are you using? I wasn't planning on using one due to the clamshell and I don't use touch that often, but yours looks like it fits quite well.
Do you still have to update the bios on the 2024 to go over 20W TDP? Why do a lot of people use 18W TDP vs 20W? Just a sweetspot for battery/perforance I assume?
Do you run in perforance mode power settings in windows?
Do you use the 'fan curve 1'? Seems to be working well for me.
'Secure boot' turned off flagging in Windows security centre on my device?
Do you know what the tjmax/how hot you can get the APU? Have only seen 70 degrees so far and usually mid 60's which seems very good.
    Thanks!

Honestly I did not tweak any settings in AMD software yet. I bought my screen protectors from Amazon. The screen protector is actually on slightly crooked lol, but I have an extra pack on hand just in case.
Should be able to handle up to 85 degrees before shutting down.
You meed GPD to send you the Bios update for 28w and I do not use fan curve as of now. I haven't messed with secure boot.
      Enjoy your WinMini!!!🎉

I saw someone saying that it gets very hot at high power with heavy games... can you confirm this?

    • @thomasusheriii971
      @thomasusheriii971  หลายเดือนก่อน

Honestly yes it can get pretty hot if you go past 18 or 20 W. I just tested hitman 3 on 24w and the GPU stayed around 75c temperature. It ran good though.

It does get warm. If you are thin skinned maybe that will bother you, but I can comfortably play with it at Max TDP for several hours while also plugged in and charging. My hands do get warm, but at worst I find it mildly uncomfortable? Actually on a cold plane flight or during the winter it was actually really nice. The heat really helps keep your fingers nice and limber. I don't consider it a downside at all and in fact will intentionally choose handhelds that get a little hot moving forward.

could you talk me through setting up L4 to go to desktop?

how did you map the windows key... or did you?

    • @thomasusheriii971

Open your Win controls and on the L4 section. Set the first box to "Windows" key and the third box to the "D" key. Then hit save.

Whenever I select the box and hit the windows key the menu pops up and it doesn’t actually save the input 😂 - is that a bug on my end or am I doing something wrong?

I would really recommend installing handheld companion and set it to auto tdp.
I think 40fps looks good, soo i just set it to 40fps and it automatically uses just what it needs to maintain 40. You can choose per game profiles or as i am just one profile for all games

Unfortunately, Handheld Companion's autotdp also makes the frame times pretty inconsistent. I did not try it with VRR screen, maybe it helps. Otherwise I only turn it on when I know I need more battery badly, preferring to just set tdp manually and lock the frame rate with Riva or Radeon chill.

@@denisdenisenko4378 huh, for me locking the fps has been rock steady with HC.
