Good news: the English translation is finally available (turn on the subtitles!), after Irina has made the poetic translation of the lyrics to Russian, which I used as a primary source. I've asked Irina about the meaning of this song before, and she answered: "This song is about the Chakhadan river", without going into much detail. While I don't want to bother her with more questions, and the double translation would be inevitably unprecise (not to mention that my English is also far from perfect), I made my best to keep it as close to the original Yukaghir lyrics as possible, using the dictionary. Of course, corrections are always welcome.

Unsurprising, and probably indicative of the future sound of the language if it survives (and I sincerely hope it does!). The influence of Russian culture and language is part of the price of connecting with the outside world, which is more or less necessary to survive nowadays, for better and for worse. The same applies in North America, where most native languages now have an English ring to them, albeit to varying degrees: the languages with very few speakers tend to show this more than the more (relatively) commonly-spoken ones.

I think this language is quite similar to Turkish in its phonetics. Despite Turkish having a more complex vowel system with eight vowels compared to the five or six vowels typically found in Kolyma Yukaghir, and a richer set of consonants, including affricates and a greater variety of fricatives and approximants, I find them quite similar overall, to be honest.
