Watching Arielle running in the rain with that huge smile coming in from the garden and Eric laughing so hard he almost choked on is Pike Taco was almost as amazing as you both catching all those fish. I love the days when the fish are biten.
Every time I watch you all eat, I get hungry. My creativity in food preparation has gone by the wayside so anything anyone fixes excites my taste buds...thanks!
You guys are really amazing . Don't separate from each other. You are an inspiration as a loving couple. Thank you for your life changing videos . God bless you....💕💕💕💕
I love the parts where your personalities come though lol you guys are hilarious and I'd be lucky to find someone in my lifetime that has what you guys have. You're both wonderful, thank you for bringing us along for your journey!
Love you, love your creativity, love the joy you bring to many of us, love how you enjoy each other while eating your precious food and the respect you have for each other and nature. God bless you my dear children. Love to have the names of your pups - BO and? Thank you 🙏

Scandinavian - Minnesotan here, glad you like the pickled pike! We sometimes make it as a pickled herring substitute. I grew up with it and will eat pickled herring all day long 😋
Howdy ya'll, love your videos. We moved to Alaska back in '70. What an adventure! I was 12 years old along with my five siblings and mom and dad. Drove up the Alcan towing a travel trailer and camped about a mile from Charlie Lake B.C. My two older brothers and I hiked down to the lake following a crisscrossing game trail. The Northern pike were biting like crazy. We kept the largest one at about 35 inches! We got lost on the way back for hours and hours. The RCMP was even looking for us. We ate the fish the next morning for breakfast. By far the best fish I ever ate. My favorite. I stayed in Alaska for 22 years. Some siblings are there still as is our step mom. (Hi Mary, Susan, Jennifer and all) Pretty sure they follow you two as well. Your videos sure make me homesick. All my old stomping grounds. Thank you for sharing. P.S. We pickled, smoked, and/or canned almost everything we harvested. Pickled halibut was one of my favorites.
I thought it was great when Eric was talking about how there was no bones in it while wiping the two bones that was in his mouth on the cutting board. Lol I love the channel and really look forward to the new episodes. You guys do a great job.
On Canada fish camp excursions, the people fishing for walleye gave the Northern to me. After filleting, I’d grind them in the meat grinder, stir Shake n Bake for fish into the meat. Formed them into patties and fried them up. Served on buns with homemade tartar sauce.....no bones to contend with and the kids loved them. (So did our fishing friends who were surprised they were eating pike. 🍁🍁 Happy memories! Thanks for the fishing videos.
Love your TH-cam sessions. The way you work together and all your living Sustainability. I’ve learn a lot from both of you and still learning. Thank you
The last couple of months, whenever I get a chance, I’ve been making my way through your “videos in order” playlist and wow I have enjoyed and learned so much from you guys! These tacos look amazing, I love pickled pike! I’ve got 28 more videos and then I’ll be caught up to your “real time” videos. But honestly there’s so much to learn from each video I might go back and watch the “videos in order” playlist all over again! Way better than any T.V. show or Netflix series.
You all are living the dream. I love that you take your dogs with you as much as you can. Arielle is so sweet she doesn't want to hit the fish too hard!
Great video 👍 Pickled pike are always good. Another really good pickled fish is sucker, more firm than pike even, and very tasty.👌 Thanks again for taking us along👏
When fishing for Pike you can EASY use bigger lures! You don't lose much of the small ones... they also go crazy for the big bites! ;-) Like your channel a lot Greetings from Germany
I can see y'all buying a small aircraft one day! So exciting watching your videos...clean too...for my grandkids to watch. Thanks guys! Xxxooo a Grandmother in north Texas
We eat pickled heering all the time. I don't remember ever seeing other types of pickled fish in the stores. I love the pickled heering with currysause. We eat it on ryebread with fresh onions on top. Very good. This is in Denmark by the way. 😊
Just what I needed. I lost my Grandma a few weeks back and now my Granddad has passed away. I can always count on you guys for a laugh. EDIT: Have you guys always had the boat? My memory is terrible. 😁
I think u should wright a canning and cooking, cookbook It would be awesome. I would buy it. You would make good money and help people going off the grid i love all your videos and everything u do is so well thought thru and clean and neet.Keep up the great work
Pickled fish is a great treat! I grew up eating a lot of pickled herring, readily available in stores here in the Chicagoland area. Anyone with a heritage from the Baltic areas likes this, and the cultures around there like to eat it. I have (mom's side) Polish and Russian heritage, so it's eaten especially on New Year's eve, as a treat. Pickled pike, I haven't tried but your recipe looked delicious! I do like Pike, but it's hard to find around here, except in some fish houses, which are not in abundance anymore. There is a place not too far from me, called Hagen's Fish Market, and they have a smokehouse to boot. You can bring your catch in and they can smoke it for you, if that is what you want. A lot of folks go up to Wisconsin to go fishing, so that is what they do when they bring back "a catch" unless they have a cabin there and access to a smokehouse in the area. Here's the website: www.hagensfishmarket.com/ Eat Well! Enjoy the Summer. I'd almost wish you'd put up a storm video like "what's an Alaskan storm like?" Maybe there isn't any difference, but maybe there is. We just had a Derecho move by us in the Midwest, we had 7 tornadoes in the City! (that almost NEVER happens). There were winds in Iowa that came through that flattened cornfields. Lots of losses. Sorry for the farmers, lost a lot of corn.
Hi from Sout Africa. Considering that none of that is store bought you guys make the most amazing meals. Everytime I watch one of these videos I want to eat. You guys are killing my diet😂😂
Don’t know if you’ll see this but canning pike is awesome too! There’s some good recipes out there that use a little ketchup and whatever else you want to put in there but it’s awesome on crackers or right out of the jar. Love your channel!
Big plus for your program on pickled pike. First time I heard the bones vanish in the vinegar. Must be thin bones. Good job you two. Got to try this myself. The bigger the bait, the bigger the fish. This all depends on how big fish you want. The small pike you caught makes good bait for monster muskies. I have seen this myself. Fly line a frisky pike around a patch of floating plants. WAHOOO....
Great Fishing video ! You can add sliced onions to fish when pickling and couple of all spice berries. It is very common Scandinavian/Baltic food, mostly herring and pike. Try it with hot boiled potatoes and diced dill (usually a spoon of sour cream is added, but you can skip this step) .oh just remembered, my grandma used to fry fish first and than cover with brine for couple of days, no bones afterwards also. Yum ! cheers from Toronto
I'm not big on pickled fish like pickled herring, but the pike you made is more like a ceviche and it looks so good! You guys are so adorable together.
Bluegill is my favorite tasting fish , usually I use beer batter to fry fish upI definitely want to try your pickling recipe, also I have to say I love to watch your gardening skills, u guys are awesome
I do believe my nearby north of me neighbor that you outdone yourselves. Hilarious watching his eyes tell the truth... can I say this is good... maybe a beef stake would be better right now.... LOL. It is a acquired taste for sure but its just as good as you say and every fish has its own taste so just because this was good, you taste buds may be in for a shock if they have been feeding on something that make them taste different. I started with herring eggs n then worked my way into more different flavors of fish, trout, variety as times of the year make such a difference. Pike eat all the other fish in the lake leaving it dead almost for the fact that they can live so far down its hard to catch them in some lakes like Big Lake which used to be tremendous fishing and now its hit and miss. Was a time that just to get down to the bigger ones took some lead to get the lines to sink fast enough. It was a fish every cast and sometimes if a little one got on and went down then the great big one would swallow that fish and you had a two fer. I prefer all mine done with McCormick beer batter for fish.. just add a beer... I have to go to my neighbors and get a beer as I quit drinking so many years ago. Its to each their own and for me, raw is very low on the totem pole. I was down in washington state many years ago... like fifty or so, and ate some pickled steelhead and it was a delish. I really think who prepares it makes all the difference. Good luck to you kids
I always get hungry when I watch your videos! Ha the great thing is that we get to see you catch, process, preserve and taste the food you have on your channel. I first started watching Ariel in a garden video. Your vegetables are amazing!
Hello, I’m a new subscriber and I am enjoying watching your videos. I started at the beginning. Your videos are wonderful. I have always wanted to start my own homestead in Alaska in doubt lol, but life and health got in the way. I enjoy your videos, because they are so homey. It’s like that you guys are talking to friends and not scripted. I like how you talk just like we are friends. Thank you for taking your time and explaining everything that you are doing. I especially like the cooking, garden, and fishing videos. Well mainly all, but these are my favorite. I was wondering if you have kids. Some people just don’t let them on camera and some do. So I wasn’t sure. Thanks again, Mary from New Jersey
I'm so glad you did a taste test for us. It's frustrating when you make something that looks so amazing and then you don't tell us how delicious it is! (that was the best ending!)
Pickling seems to be all the rage this year. Yeah, I'm gathering together ingredients to do a little bit of it myself too. You two do a great job of having fun working together. Don't ever lose that quality.
Love how you take your dogs with you and they seem comfortable. Love the quite of nature. Thank you for not using music to cover the sounds of nature. I HATE videos with music :). Really love seeing you guys cook!

I love watching you two living the moment. I have been watching you guys since your move in the beginning. It's refreshing watching your growth and pioneers spirit. I am a fan of the Fox Fire Books that you guys a putting into action. Your dogs and cat free spirit is a touch to the heart. Your maturity is awesome for such a young couple. Much success on your venture. You guys are the best. Cheers
If you get bigger pike that you are worried about the bones on, there is a lot of videos on the five boneless fillets of a pike. I like the look of the pickling recipe. My dad used to make a salmon dish where the citrus cooks the fish. Thanks for sharing the video. I always enjoy your content.
Something magic! that's how I'd describe the whole experiencie of going fishing in that stunning enviroment (planes included) 😍 and the preparation of that fish...my mouth was watering by the time you had your salad ready and started assembling those tacos 💚
We make ika mata in NZ with fish a lot, I imagine it’s similar to this in that the citrus ‘cooks’ it then it’s marinated in coconut milk. Great way to prepare fish without cooking equipment !
I used to like ceviche cooked by citrus juices, until, one day there was a worm squirming around in the juices. That is one of those memories that never goes away. Tasty, but a dangerous way to eat.
David Mc oh wow I honestly hadn’t really given parasites/worms in raw fish much thought. I don’t think it’s that common to find worms in NZ/AUS fish - but i think I’ll be thoroughly inspecting fish we catch from now on!
@@emmaturner507 Pretty much any fish, and really any meat can/will have parasites. For that matter, there can be parasites on, or in, some vegetables; transferred by creatures, like snails, and from snails through the water (in such as watercress), and eggs in the dirt. I don't even like the idea of giving raw foods to our pets, if we can keep from it. And, the problem with parasites that can live in humans is the symptoms can masquerade as a host of other conditions: painful joints, chronic pain, respiratory conditions, headaches, migraines, vision problems, back pain, blood clots... I cringe when I see people advocating for "raw foods" (preferably not).
1. We love your videos. 2. Try growing calamondin citrus in a pot or in the ground in your greenhouse. It's extremely adaptable to weather, but produces year round when protected. Blooms when it's dry and puts on fruit when watered. Just protect it from freezes. It's extremely versatile for food, tea, and jelly. Reply if you need seed. We'll send you some. Please keep the wonderful videos coming. Y'all are living our dream life.
Greetings from Port Macquarie Australia, I just discovered your channel and am thoroughly enjoying your videos, you are both lovely people. Kind regards
A fine video again folks, thanks for sharing the fishing adventures. More than a half century ago in northern Saskatchewan, the Len Thompson Red Devil - red and white spoon - was "the" go to lure we all used. Good to see the fishing dogs going along for the fun too. Kudos to Eric for the shoo bear again, like a good fire extinguisher, we just never know when we'll need one. Stay well you guys.
My husband and I started fishing about four months ago and we didnt catch anything so far! Very strange we think... 😂🤣. Maybe we are doing it wrong but at least we have so much fun with the whole fishing thing. Youngest son started this family hobby; he caught some fish in the ocean (in Dutch: geep and schar) as well as in the local canals. That is super cool and he is very proud to be the one catching fish. You are doing great at fishing, I remember the salmon like no other! Omnomnom I say. Great video today again, always fun watching your content. Thanks! 🧚🏼♂️🍀
Yes Bo and Bandit travel in Style ! Good Supervising ! I am sure the kitteh likes the Pike too ! Have you ever tried honey comb for bait? I don't know why but apparently some fish like the smell of it ? and it dissolves so there is no waste.
Used to catch muskie and walleye in Dewittville Creek that ran through our farm in Dewittville NY, northern pike ( used cheese or doughballs to catch them) in St Lawerence at my grandparents cabin at Alexandria Bay NY, trout in Black Creek, Byron NY and catfish in the spring at our farm pond in Johnstown NY. Never thought about pickling fish before.
Patricia Herman my grampa. In Arkansas used stink bait he would make with flour, blood from meat & sometimes cornflakes, then let it sit couple days!! Aurgh-sure named right, then have to sit in boat with it! Ive heard & seen ppl use corn-just open little can whole kernel. Don't know what kind of fish it catches.
@@vernareed2692 at the cabin we used what I call doughballs which was plain white bread rolled into a ball, and we fished from the dock the pike were numerous so were easy to catch. Had a huge cast iron skillet filled with oil on a fire pit and cooked the fish whole. Yes cut off the heads gut them and scaled and fried. Bony but we'll worth it. 😊
I love how no matter what you’re doing with the pups, they always have beds and blankets!
Heck Yea 😊❤😊
Absolute human moment at the end. Laughing and enjoying each other. Great guys.
Have you even laughs 😅

Eric gets so passionate about the food I just 😊 it. Ariel loves it her food as well but is more “cool “ and factual. Thanks you two!
That was funny. Hey that one is the one I caught fish with....I know I took it. Still chuckling.
I know I'm late to the party but ... that was my favorite part too! Ariel is hilarious. Love your vibe. 😊
reason we enjoy this so much is because this is part of our nature ,it resonates with our souls and reminds us of the freedom we all use to possess.

I’m impressed! Every ingredient self made! 😳You guys are so great!
Again, you two make veggies look good. Pickled pike, awesome
My stepfather is german, and he always made a traditional pickled fish. I love it!
Now you're talkin fishing right down my alley my favorite thing to do tacos look good I can't get over how mellow your dogs are
A fine video again folks, thanks for sharing the fishing adventures.
Just started watching you both and I love the way you both interact together. So very happy I stumbled upon your channel.
I love your videos, I would watch your simple pleasures anytime. Bless you , so decently honest emotions, thank you for the joy.
Arielle is the catch of the day 😉
You guys are great together and take really good care of your doggies. Sweet babies!!!
what a lovely couple and life!
Ever thought about adding some old carpet to the bottom of your boat to muffle any banging around that ALL of us seem to do? Great job!
If anyone hasn't had Pike, it is super good. Really, it's very good.
I'm from Philippines and we don't even have Winter and I find myself watching all your videos lol
Pasyal ka sa alaska
I love your channel! I'm amazed at what y'all have accomplished thriving in Alaska.
Y'all compliment each other so well.
Love the ending 😊
What a good life you have organic food and all, take care.
