I remember cutting open patients, dumping all of my tools in them, and then sewing them back up and sending them on their way. Those were good times....
I don't think you realize something... One of the very first videos I did here was a quick review on The Sims 3. That got me my initial audience. Around this time I also started pursuing my other interests in vids, like vintage hardware/software. The Sims games are a part of my life & a big part of what I do here. It's always been this way on this channel and will stay that way so long as they keep releasing them. I still do way more retro vids than Sims ones, I don't see why you're complaining.
Wow all those little extras included with the game like the fake letter and cool booklets. You just don't get those extra touches anymore, now you're lucky to get a 2 page "manual"
yeah and the actual tutorial is mandatory in EVERY game rather than printing it in that book so that it doesn't conflict with the experience of the game itself.

Unless you get the collector's edition. Then you'll be hard pressed to find space for all the plastic tat.
I honestly miss that. I remember being seriously excited when Working Designs rereleased the LUNAR series on the PlayStation back in the day, and where most companies would have just pushed out a simple port and been done with it, WD rebuilt the game from the ground up with bonus features included, included a soundtrack CD, a Behind The Scenes DVD including outtakes and such, and threw in a hard cover instruction book with concept art, comparisons between the original and rerelease, and a "getting started" strategy guide. /That/ made me excited about games again... so of course the company collapsed. =(
You were right "Someone comes with slight discomfort, put him under the UltraScan and see what his insides look like". If you want to see if his/her aorta has grown prematurely
this game looks awesome! I've never heard of it, and all the little features like the mask and gloves and the small booklet on surgery and even the copy protection... it really shows how much love was put into this game. thanks for showing me this! I'm gonna go download this now...!
I had the PC version, no pager/copyright system. I could never properly operate on a patient. The scalpel would always kill the patient, and a screen of red would descend. Those manuals would have been some help...
This is one of those games that had my family convinced I was a psychopath just because I'd be cracking up while carving patients up and listening to them scream. ;/
Actually, the graphics are arguably better on the Mac version even though they're in black and white. The resolution is higher and the graphics are more detailed, so it's a bit easier to do surgery.
I have fond memories of emulating this game back when I was like 10 years old, I had extreme difficulty finding the numbers for the pager thing, and actually managed to get someone (I believe I found them on some forum) who still had theirs to personally email it to me so that I could play the game. Good friggin times.
I freaking love Carnivores. What an intense hunting game, especially when you get past the herbivores and start going after the straight up carnivores. Incredibly satisfying to walk around your trophy room after a successful hunt, hehe. The later games in the series are pretty good too, but the original two games are still my preference.
No. Sorry. I think I've said this to you before, but I got rid of it because it was more trouble than it was worth. Lots of people complained about it being unnecessary and somewhat aggravating, and I agree. It did nothing to improve the video in any substantial way. Stats show that most skipped it or left the video before it was done. Plus I had it for a long time and I got bored of it. It's not coming back. I will continue to tweak the current intro, but the old ones as they were are done for.
I did, at 07:06 in the video! Granted, it wasn't a flawless operation, but it was successful. The dude just tells you "congrats on the surgery" and that's that, you move onto the next patient.
Lazy Game Reviews Thanks for responding to me. Are you certain it was successful? Because at 06:55 it says "Oh no! We've lost the patient!" Or do you mean you succeeded at some other operation and just jumped straight to the "winning" screen?
God, I just tried playing the DOS version of this game. Note to everyone: do NOT attempt surgery without a guide! Following a guide I made it all the way up to closing the patient, but I missed a few steps and gave them the wrong drug by accident. We lost 'em. I was so devastated.
You realize that only a few videos a year are on Sims expansions, right? The vast majority of the time it's other stuff that I cover. And actually, according to my analytics numbers from TH-cam, the largest number of those who watch my videos are 13-17 year old girls...
After hours and hours playing this game, I'm convinced I could perform an appendectomy or a blood clot removal. Now as for life and death 2, hell I could never get past drilling out a piece of skull. Nice review.
This game cracks me up so much. I can't tell you how many times I've successfully completed surgery only to be told that I forgot to take out a butterfly clip. One thing I noticed is that the x-ray looks way better in the Apple IIGS version than the DOS version. I always had tons of trouble deciphering what was going on in the x-ray when playing my DOS version, and more than a few patients suffered because of it.
Yes, but they just don't release stuff as often as I do. For instance Pat just released a new NES Punk review the other day, and JewWario is also on RWTV now with his You Can Play This series. But I'm one of the few that release something new every week. A lot of them stay pretty darned busy with other things, like running the site, working on The Video Game Years and all sorts of stuff behind the scenes.
Shogun Total War is by far my most favourite game in the Total war series. If you haven't already, a review on it would get right up in my nostalgia jiblets.
Life and Death sparked my interest in medicine and now, all these years later, I'm a surgeon....im not licensed nor did I go to school but that didnt stop me.
LOL I remember that game on DOS, I never had a successful surgery. This is why I am not a gamer of anything more advanced than Galaga. XD Great review!
Not according to the stats I have. Seriously, most people either skipped or left the video entirely due to the intro. I got lots of emails all the time about how it was aggravating, or they heard the intro music and thought they were being Rick Roll'd. Nobody seemed to say anything positive about it when I used it, and now all of a sudden a few people want it back. I can't win, so I'm not even playing that whole "intro" game anymore.
Remember when we had to go on a ''field trip'' to the hosiptal ones and we started off at the morgue. That's... NOT a good place to go if you haven't seen a dead person yet.. Urgh.. I shiver everytime I see feets like that... It's just... So unsetteling...
5:28 I noticed that you used the DOS version of Life and Death for the "FART" operation, but when you're explaining the operation mode at 6:10, it's the Apple IIGS version. How so?
Just to chime in, even though the Apple IIGS had less CPU horsepower than the Amiga, it could actually display more colors at once. The Amiga was limited to 32 colors at once total, while the IIGS could potentially do 3200 colors with a different 16 color palette for each scanline, though realistically most games only used up to 256 colors.
Oh goodness, I remember this game. I have no idea how it came into my home though. There were just a bunch of these Toolworks game; I think one was a murder mystery game, where you had an hour to solve it.
7:49 I can only imagine what the nurse would say if my doctor just decided to cut into me about 20,000 times more than he needed to. I could only imagine Clint shouting "Wheeee!" while doing that, and laughing maniacally.
The Software Tool works has always been one of my favorite companies, mostly because they were responsible for some of the craziest games, like Mario's Time Machine. Publisher, developer, whatever; TST was interesting.
I love how the game tells you that carving "FART" into a patient "wasn't the proper procedure".
That'll teach em to eat beans! 😅 I died laughing!

@@Litepaw I wonder to which comment he was replying to hahahaha
@@karlagerman-skrinjaric6548 same haha!
What happened to the thumbnail? Now it shows the scene with the phone instead of the Title Card with the name of the game.

Where all the manual is just basic controls and seizure warnings.
Right!

Aw you didn't include the scream when you cut into the patient without anesthesia. Aaaaaaaah!
That scared the piss out of me the first time it happened
Holy crap, LGR looked creepy snapping that glove on.......
lol yea right
so, the patient woke up, and his skeleton was missing! anyway, that's how I lost my medical license...
Your profile pic fits your comment well!
Dr. Pepper is that you!?

2:00 That mask would be a huge selling point at this particular point in 2020.
I was just about to say the same thing lol
And 2021. Darn! I thought I'd be the first one to comment during the pandemic! lmao
And the title screen at 2:20 too.
Great now i hate all of you! Good Job!
Yeah they helped so much 🙃
I almost died laughing when you put on the mask and gloves! Best served at 0.25x with the most ominous music in your collection!
Indeed! Stay tuned for more on this :D

2012 - Comes with a mask and gloves - what a funny concept!
2020 - IT COMES WITH A MASK AND GLOVES?! - I WILL GIVE YOU $200 FOR THAT GAME!
Indeed it is. Expect to see more of it soonish.
Ah, that music right in the beginning. Budbrain Megademo (Amiga, 1990)
And the end sections of it were totally NSFW.
Actually, the graphics are arguably better on the Mac version even though they're in black and white. The resolution is higher and the graphics are more detailed, so it's a bit easier to do surgery.
I remember playing this in middle school, and I've been trying for years to remember what it was called. Good thing I found this video.
I have fond memories of emulating this game back when I was like 10 years old, I had extreme difficulty finding the numbers for the pager thing, and actually managed to get someone (I believe I found them on some forum) who still had theirs to personally email it to me so that I could play the game. Which name, phreakindee? Just like it's spelled: freak-in-dee. It's also said several times in the Slag Voss interview on my channel.

little did we know how important that mask would be 8 years later....
Makes the game as tough as possible. Patients die easier, surgery is harder, the deadlier diseases are more common, etc.
Ah, this takes me back to 8th grade. The computer lab at school had this installed on every machine, and it was awesome!
Certainly considered it, yes. They're underrated for sure.
I need to buy the game for the mask and gloves. You know, shortages and stuff.
You're awesome, Clint. Myself, and no doubt many others, certainly appreciate your videos & the work that goes into them. :)
It's extra punishing when your head doctor is Luke Skywalker.
More like a grumpy old Han Solo.
I played this as a child. So cool back then. Just wanna say I'm so sorry to the npc's who suffered so horribly at my juvenile whims
Oh man I see that Majesty fantasy sim box in the background. That game is seriously one of the best.
It would have been nice if you would have demonstrated what a successful surgery actually looks like.
I did, at 07:06 in the video! Granted, it wasn't a flawless operation, but it was successful. The dude just tells you "congrats on the surgery" and that's that, you move onto the next patient.

Time to visit thrift store to get a box for that sweet, sweet mask and gloves!!
If anyone wants to see it, all they have to do is watch any of my older videos. The intros haven't magically disappeared from them or anything :)
