Saw this when it came out near an Army base. The theater was mostly military. Normally I like a quiet theater to enjoy the movie. But in this case, it was noisy but in in a good way. And the whole theater stood and saluted during the speech. One of the best movie experiences in my life.
I live in Indonesia, even in our theatre, we clapped a lot in respone of that speech.
i feel like we need this to happen to unite everyone lol.
@@deveryhenderson8335 That's just it tho. Something tragic has to happen to create unity and in the end the world turns back to the way it was. Reality
@@stanzaloan3454 shouldn't be the case. what's missing is knowing that the only things in this life that are important are to be generous, friendly, loving, and content and to love all even your enemies to no end. Be selfless in your love and want to help others, irrespective of any rewards given. When you wake up start thinking of your creator, the Lord, and try to always keep your thoughts on him until you again go to sleep and end your day. I hope then you'll begin to notice what this world really is.
I was Air Force, but my brother is Army. We watched Battle: Los Angeles near the post where he was TDY. Ft. Gordon I think, in Augusta?
Anyway from the Opening Scene and into the rest, it was a noisy crowd.
Fun Fact: They shot the USMC airfield and Santa Monica Airport scenes in my old base, Barksdale AFB.
I was like, “Hey I know those hangars!”
"If the dog dies, im done with this movie"
Thats why I love you two
"I'm so smart!" 😄
That dog (Boomer) jumped about 25 feet to safety. He soared. 😮
Boomer...will live :)
The President's speech still gives me chills every time I watch this movie.
Me too.Makes me want to grab an F-15 and go alien-hunting !!!! LOL.
It's more presidential than any modern presidential speech. Hollywoody and cheesey but when you're a kid watching this it's like it's lifted from the history books during ww2 or something. Sends a good message too, to think beyond nationalism and tribalism.
Words of wisdom: “Get as far away from these things as you can!” and “You’d all be dead if it wasn’t for my David!” Great guilty pleasure. Glad you liked it!
Ya know King Saul once said the exact same thing!
@@jamesalexander5623 “You knew then. Yet you did nothing!” - “Vultures!” 🤘😂🤣😂

Guilty nothing. This is my birthday movie every year since it came out. This is what cinema is all about.
"If the dog dies I'm done with this movie." OMG Funny!

=))))))
I've always loved this movie. The President's speech before the final assault is one of my favorites.
was very deep!
Mine too. After the president's speech,I stood up and yelled: HELL YA !!! Time to kick some alien &&& !!! And everyone in the audience-ROARED-with laughter, inciuding my then girlfriend. LOL. I had a ball watching this movie.
1:28 the flag is so straight because since the Moon has no atmosphere, there's no wind to move it. It doesn't hang down like flags on Earth, because there's additional metal rod going through the top of the flag, to keep it unfolded.
16:00 The reason that they didn't attack us 200 years ago is that they didn't know we were here, not that we didn't have our tech to turn back on us. With muskets and cannons there would be nothing at all we could do.
They didn't know we were here because we weren't transmitting radio signals. Our first long-distance radio transmissions (still very weak) were in the very early 1900s. The first transmissions with real power were in the 1920s or 1930s. So depending on what you want to say is the starting of radio the sphere of radio signals around the Earth is a little under or a little over 100 light years in radius.
Marian teary eyed during the speech, we all can relate. It's an awesome speech!
it was deep!
@@MJoy4Fun this is what happens when great actors are in action movies, and the script is decent! I always tear up too, and I’ve been watching it since 1996. Sequel is o-k.
It took home the Oscar for Best Visual Effects, and it made $890 million dollars at the box office.
And best grossing hit movie at the box office of 1996
Little moments like at 27:57 are why I love this channel. You two banter with each other like you've been married for 50 years. It's like I'm watching my own grandparents when they were young. You have such great chemistry together, and it's made even more special because you're from countries that are each on the opposite side of the planet from the other one. Your partnership is ten thousand miles wide but also as close as the two sides of a zipper. It's a delight to witness.
I remember when this came out a lot of people were saying the only thing stopping this flick from being perfect is they never showed how this affected the Philippines ;)
- LOVED this watch-along with you two, as usual! 😂
Perfect!
The aliens landed in Manila, saw people there eating balut, and immediately surrendered in fear.
@@theevilascotcompany9255 I had to eat Balut for my Chief Petty Officer initiation, nnaassttyy!!
They likely hadn't gotten there yet. They where going from the largest most populated areas and moving there way down. So likely hadn't made it to island nations yet. That was my theory when I first watched it anyway.
Imagine if modern day blockbusters were as good as this. The visual effects and sci-fi designs are immaculate, the cast is charismatic and intriguing without relying on meta-humor like every single blockbuster now. And the story actually has multi layered interesting characters with a compelling narrative and heartfelt theme. And despite it being an end of the world movie, it actually feels like it has steaks because it takes the time to build its world up and actually has the balls to make a lasting impact for decisions. Probably because it’s not connected to some giant universe. We need movies like this again. Real stories told about real people put through an exciting yet terrifying once in a lifetime situation.
Multi layered characters? If you enjoy this movie, good on you but I think you meant to say caricatures
@@OneArmedRetroGamer When I say multi layered, I mean in the context of an action blockbuster. I mean it in a relative sense. Obviously a multi layered comedy character is not as layered as a action blockbuster protagonist, most likely that is. In the same way, relatively A action protagonist will not be as complex or as complicated as a multi layered thriller mystery character, and a thriller mystery character who is multi layered is probably not gonna be as multi layered as a character from a drama. When I call the characters multi layers what I mean is that they have #1 their own individual and very personal aspirations, number two aspirations in their relationships, and number three actual personalities that affect the way they view everything from sports, to chess, to music, to smoking. They feel like actual people, in the same way that John MacLean feels like a real guy in a crazy situation. They are not flat boring one dimensional caricatures‘s like John Wick, or the guy from extraction, or Ethan hunt(I love fallout/Tom) or 90% of modern depictions of superheroes.
@@bossisin2510 well said.

🤣 This movie has 🥩🥩🥩! 🤣 (Sorry -- the image conjured by your incorrect homonym made me laugh!)
I was crying too man! It was a really beautiful speech.
That speech he gave was amazing the first time i watched it.... and it still slaps
This movie is probably the first to actually try to show how the entire world reacted rather than just the US.
yeah i noticed that too
It’s an American movie and it’s fiction,
Why is it obligated to include the entire world? It’s just a movie lol
I love this Film. It IS one of the most "Watchable" Movies of all time!
I love these guys so much. I don't think they've made a bad reaction.
Yeah, I always thought immigrants made the best reactions. I feel like I learn more from their viewpoints. It’s amazing. 🙌🏽
@@Eddie53172 Oh, I thought she moved to him and they live in Romania. Which country did they actually immigrate to and why?
She's annoying AF!
I have just watched the film again but it was the Director's Cut. I saw the original in the cinemas August 10th 1996. My cousin's birthday.
glad to hear that. 90s were the best
Don't sweat it Marian. The Fourth of July speech is a powerful and touching scene. I believe if you are not moved by that speech, there's something wrong with you.
Many of the cast of this film have played in science fiction movies before.
David the scientist is played by Jeff Goldblum, who played an alien in the comedy "Earth Girls Are Easy".
The President is played by Bill Pullman, who played independent starship pilot Lone Starr (a parody of Han Solo) in the comedy "Spaceballs".
The First Lady is played by Mary McDonnell, who played Laura Roslin, the President of the United Colonies of Kobol in the TV series "Battlestar Galactica". (She also played Kevin Costner's love interest in "Dances With Wolves".)
Long-haired Dr Okun is played by Brent Spiner who played the android crewmember Data on "Star Trek: The Next Generation".
Jasmine is played by Vivica A. Fox who played US President Ellen Henricksen (the first time a US president has been portrayed as a black female) in the science fiction film "Crossbreed".
Steve is played by Will Smith who played General Cypher Raige, retired, of the Ranger Corps, crash landed on a hostile planet with his son (played by Will Smith's actual son Jaden Smith, their 2nd film together) in "After Earth".
Russel Casse, formerly abducted by aliens, is played by Randy Quaid who has starred in and appeared in supporting roles for a number of science fiction movies.
I went to the theaters to see this and didn't leave the theater. I bought 1 ticket and watched it 3 times in a row lol. I did the same with Jurassic Park and Interstellar.
Wow😂
this movie has a similar feeling to Top Gun Maverick you just leave feeling patriotic and happy
I've seen this movie several times, watching your reactions made me enjoy it all over again!
this movie always deserves a re-watch
Before this movie came out, our local theater had a large Independence Day promotional digital countdown display. It was counting down the days, hours and minutes to the release day. Great idea to hype the movie. Wish I could have had the opportunity to purchase that bit of movie nostalgia but I'm sure someone at the theater got that.
I was in the Atlanta Olympic marching band in 1996. We played for the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. We all went and watched this the night before. At the opening ceremonies I told everyone that if the aliens are going to invade, this is the time their gonna do it
haha oh yess.
at this point i dont think they want to invade anymore... i mean our resources are depleting anyway
Lucky for us the Aliens were running an unpatched version of Windows 98 on their PC's ..
This movie came out the year I was born, and it's still one of my all time favorites.
I was born 4th of July, so every year since this movie came out I watch it on my birthday to celebrate. What's not to like?
Personal note:
Will Smith aka Fresh Prince...this movie helped launch his big screen film career...but for me he will always be a young rapper with his highschool best friend D.J. Jazzy Jeff. Around 1990 I won tickets off the radio to see Dj Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince perform at a local club in downtown Portland, Oregon. I had a blast!🎶
So Will's early acting career I have always enjoyed seeing. His behavior lately is just sad.😢
LOL Joy, the aliens always attack the US, for the same reason Godzilla always attacks Japan: because that's where the movie was made, and where its target audience lives.
BTW, the same year this premiered, another very similar, but much funnier film also came out, "Mars Attacks!"
I remember wanting to like Mars Attacks, but being disappointed in it...
@@bigdream_dreambig I've never been able to put a finger on it, but it just isn't as likeable as this movie. I think part of it is the tone. ID4 has a really earnest heartfelt tone, and reminds me of the classic alien invasion movies of the 50s, even though Mars Attacks *looks* like one of those movies, it has almost no real likeable characters. Independence Day has a cast of almost nothing but likeable characters.
Is mommy sleeping now?
That broke me as a child... well acted by Pullman and Whitman.
Jeff Goldblum often played scientist types in the 90s. Lovely reaction as usual 💜
I suggest you watch him in The Fly from the late 1990s...
This is why I love you guys' reactions. Independence Day is far from an original idea for a movie. Isn't artsy or genre breaking. None of those things. What it is though is a well acted, well executed popcorn blockbuster and I adore that you guys appreciate movies like this for what they are, rather then criticize them for what they aren't.
Yay!🎉 I'm excited for this reaction...one of my all-time fave movies. The speech that the President gives near the end to rally everyone gives me goosebumps every time!😊💚
Every man tears up listening to that speech and is instantly ready to fight for our planet. Incredible writing
9:04 Is this a director's cut? This part and Miguel saying his father is nothing weren't in the version I'm familiar with.
It has to be a different cut... I'm noticing the same differences.
Yes this is definitely some kind of extended version. I've seen a lot of these scenes before on TH-cam as "deleted scenes". I know one of the streaming services has a longer cut that puts most of them back in so this must be that new extended version
JEFF was HERE too 🏆
one and only!
Good choice patreons. Always a good time with this movie.
These guys are quickly becoming my favorite TH-cam couple❤
yaaaaay! more uploads will start to pop up soon
This movie is the peak 'alien invasion disaster movie Will Smith explosions war movie Jeff Goldblum rousing speech crazy special effects yes we won but almost everyone is dead' movie. No other movie can compare to it.
the aliens got brought down... by Windows 95
Not everyone likes part 2, but i still think part 2 is a ton of fun! Hope you watch that one as well
I like a lot of movies that it's popular not to like, even though I can see the flaws in them. Not even I like the sequel to this, aside from the SFX.
There was no need for a sequel is my issue. This movie makes it pretty clear that this is "their whole civilization."
The sequel just wasn't needed.
@@JayTor2112 I was disapointed...!
Agreed
11:54 "Fire the laser!" "That's just footage from the movie Independence day, but the real laser would be like that."😂

Great review as always! "I'm so smart"🤣👍😊
He's seen the movie before and pretends to not know what was going to happen. Love it! Nice job! 👍
Jeff Goldblum is the guys name. Check out The Fly with and the movie Powder. Both with Jeff. Two very good movies I think you'll both enjoy.
"Jurassic Park" is Jeff's best known movie.
Big boy had tears after that speech! Me too! Event though I've seen it well over a thousand times...no joke! Saw it four times in theaters. It's the reason I'm now a syfy nerd! 😂❤
I love this movie, it's 28 years old and it still looks incredible lol
11:50 that shot is iconic lol
13:25 the audience in theaters cheered at that part for obvious reasons lol
17:34 great welcome line lol
19:24 that was mostly improv by Will and the smell he's asking about is actually coming from the dry lake bed they're on lol
29:45 one of the best speeches in cinema history
37:06 jeff and the Director were talking about his line from Jurassic Park and how it would fit here really well so they put it in "must go faster, must go faster, must go faster!" Lol
13:10 Another TH-cam reactor was so worried about Boomer in this scene that she just kept saying "Doggie?! Doggie?! Doggie?!" until he made it safely to the tunnel.
A billion people die and "if the dog dies I'm done." In Jaws the dog and a kid dies and it's a great movie, if you remember.
Another movie we rented on VHS cassette, and watched on our little 21" CRT TV ( yes 21" 😮 ) but it was still an awesome experience 😊👍😊
oh the era of renting VHS cassette is very iconic in terms of movie watching
it has more meaningful appreciation towards a specific movie..

I saw this in the theater on the 4th of July. The entire theatre cheered at the president's speech.
i saw this in the theater on a friday night of opening weekend back in 97. biggest movie of the year.
when the part with the dog happened running away from the explosion then entire audience was screaming "GO BOOMER!"
Ahh back when when going to summer blockbusters was like going to a rock concert.
I loved this movie so much. This was back in the 90s as a teen, when action movies were truly awesome. This was one of many summer blockbusters we looked forward to seeing in theaters.
This is a perfect summer blockbuster. Saw you getting choked up at the president’s speech. It’s ok, everyone does 😂 Great movie.
and now you need to see Mars Attacks!
That visual communication system is a joke about "Encounters of the third kind" by Spielberg. Such a joke 😅 Great video guys!
I am very fond of you guys. Love his exclamations at jump scares. And, I was scared for the dog myself.
Is this some extended cut? I've seen this movie over 30 times and Im seeing scenes Ive never seen before in my life!
It has to be I haven't seen some of these scenes either
One of the best movie theater experiences for me when it was initially released!
I remember I got my hands on this movie when I was 12 years old. I can’t tell you how many times I watched this movie 🎥 over and over again 🔁 🔂 😅 I used to watch it, just for the sake of watching it out of pure boredom. 21:23 is based off of real events btw 🫣🤫😶🌫️

A great action movie. Glad you enjoyed it.
Check out:
"Battle Los Angeles" (2011) w/ Aaron Eckhart & Bridget Moynahan. Rather than a Sci-fi movie with battles, it is a war movie with aliens.
Fallon NV is where they are heading to. It has two Navy schools. One is Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center (NSAWC) and the other is United States Naval Strike Fighters Instructor Program. The second school is more popularly known as Top Gun. The first trains pilots and Naval Flight Officers (NFO) on how to do coordinate strikes with ground forces. The second trains pilots on how to fight other aircrafts to support missions. I've seen some of these training. The desert would have targets (buildings and vehicles) and I could see the explosions from a distance.
The base in Nevada is Groom Lake or popularly known as Area 51, not NAS Fallon. And actually Top Gun is under the NSAWC, now called Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center (NAWDC). They're not 2 separate schools. Same goes for few other aviation advanced training programs of the Navy.
@@dallasyap3064 Thank you for the correction. I was stationed at NSAWC as an instructor because I was a submarine officer. They also had a surface officer. I didn't want to go there. I was supposed to go Singapore as an ambassador's aid as I can speak Cantonese and also took German and Spanish in high school. My detailer told me the CO denied my transfer so I went to NSAWC to give training on US and other countries submarine assets. It was some fun at time when they do training. I monitor the radar and call the pilot if they go beyond our training borders.
