I started using Wes Montgomery’s choice of pick…and it’s saved me lots of money.
“Would you buy this?” Well, it’s not my first PICK.
Here's the price breakdown.
Cost to manufacture plastic pick = 10 cents
Dummy tax to the consumer who fell for the elaborate description, the Martin pouch and Tin = the remaining profit margin of approximately $24.90

Picks are extremely important. It's huge part of your feel in my opinion, but feel doesn't cost $25

I prefer the Dunlop Jazz III XL for both acoustic and electric.
It doesn't bend, has less string noise, chamfered edge and grippy letters.
Wow Jazz III XL is also my favourite!
Short answer: No! The Packaging for one pick is ridiculous (enviroment??). Oh, the price is ridiculous as well.
Rabea Massaad has a signature pick I absolutely love! It’s made out of a material that if you drop it it has a different sound tighter as if harder yet flexible. Every other pick feel and thus sounds dead or softer in comparison. Try them bet you like em… they’re black 1mm with his logo/face.
I like Dunlop picks. But will play anything I can pick up cheap at the music store.
It's sweater weather at the Henning Compound! I use a variety of picks... it's fun to mess around and see how they change my playing... I'd try it if it was $5... maybe. Lately, the Black Mountain Asteroids are my favorite! 😎🤘🐦
That was a good video, because the type of pick can support your playing style and can make a huge difference in your sound. That's why so many different picks are made in different sizes and materials. For playing my baritone or playing guitars with thicker strings, low tunigs, I use bronze, copper and titanium picks. I don't like the normal ones, I just produce these by my self and I am very happy about it, because it's just my style and my sound and it's a bit more me. Maybe I sell these things someday... For fast playing and fast riffs I use titanium, because it has less mass and it's easier to play, but it's not so powerful as the bronze pick... Also I don't like picks with very pointed tips, I like it more round. Also the thickness of the pick is important for me, I don't use picks under 1,5mm, better 2mm and more. Pick materials I also like is buffalo horn and some different woods. The only advice I can give is, try out different picks, also ones you would normally not touch, because the type of pick can have a big influence how you play guitar. For me there is no right or wrong, because it's a personal decision and you have to be happy with it. 🙃🤘
It's a Gravity pick Gold. They are practically indestructible. The true value isn't realized until you've played it for years and it still looks new. I keep mine in a keychain leather pick carrying case, with me at all times.
I stick with Dunlop tortex, both purple and green, worldwide in shops.
Classic rounded triangle shape, nice subtle flexibility and texture.
Same with Gator. Nice compromissum in chuga-chugging and single note playing.
This year i tested for the first time the Tortex Wedge... I was a DAVA Rock Control guy .. but now that's my new standard :) (and 1/3 of the price is a cool plus)

Picks are weird, cause everyone either massively underestimates the importance of them or talks for hours about how amazing their 50€ artisan pick is😂
.73 is the usual pick thickness I use for my Martin HD-28, my Martin is a loud guitar for an acoustic and I don't need any more thickness for strumming.
I use Dunlop Max Grip with little grippy bumps at 0.73 mm. They’re great and I DO own a Martin. Also try gator grips, they’re fun and have some weird almost powder substance on them. 😎
Almost 10 years ago I bought a 3D printer and found a design on the interwebs which I customized to my own requirements. Lots of fun and this is no BS, faster than the traditional shaped picks because again customized to my own requirements. Material used Colorfab XT ABS like plastic.
Damn nice. I kinda know what shape, thickness, material I would want to try on a pick... Maybe a Jazz III XL pick but rounded bewels, edges like the flow pick, and flow picks material. This could be my custom pick of choice...

Been using Fender mediums for years. I have tried maney different ones, Still play the Fender ones.
I have bought V-picks just because. I use different textures because of different pick noises. Not paying $20. Thought I had lost my mind when I bought 6 for $30 once.
I rarely try new picks but the sand paper grip is a cool idea. I’ll stick with my ultex flow. I like the shape grip and harddiditty of them. That said expanding my tone flavor is always a fun experiment.

I thought the Dunlop and Ernie Ball picks sounded best. Could be that they are thinner and flex more. I don't think I could tell the difference between the Ortega and Martin pick.
I've bought blue chip picks before so yeah I'd probably buy it. I'm currently using v picks snake 4mm and chicken picks badazz 3.2 mm. They cover all my picking needs for now
I have found myself picking up the luxe more than my blue chips lately. It's definitely louder but that might be because it's thinner. It's definitely worth the 20 bucks on Amazon.
I have thousands of picks. I've been playing for 40 years and am a certified pick neurotic, always looking for the holy grail of picks, and when I find the one I think is "the one", I usually buy a ton of them because I'm afraid they'll stop making them. Of the bunch you demo, I think the Tusq sounds the best, BUT I have a few and those are among the slipperiest picks out there: I can't hold onto them. I thought the Martin was second. Surprisingly, I thought the .88 Dunlop nylon and the .60 Tortex both sounded really good, but I can't play with picks that thin.
I have multiple Bluechips, but play the luxe more . It also cost half of what a blue chip does on Amazon.
My immediate instinct when seeing the price and detail about it was that they're trying to offer a "Blue Chip' style pick of their own brand, yet undercut them in price. The ad copy makes it sound like with their proprietary plastic formula it'll be worth the $20 for duration/lack of wear, and comfort. With no option to choose the bevel edges like Blue Chip does, they can't charge the same, but some will see that as the reason to buy it. I agree that a pick is an important connection between your fingers and the strings, and finding the one(s) that work for you takes time. Meanwhile, I think that for strumming, I'd try the Martin Luxe pick if they got some thinner gauges like .73 or .60. Hadn't heard of these picks until seeing your video just now.
I have some Blue Chip I picks…$35 USD a pop. They never wear down…or it takes years rather. Just don’t lose it lol
Small resume: another fan (of which I do not consider myself) bauble, forgive me my open eyes. -) I myself have been using Dunlop Tortex standard .88 picks (the green ones) from the very beginning (about 20 years). Overall I'm glad about that. ;)

I was thinking the exact same thing. Maybe you should consider it a seal of quality for your honest reviews that they didn‘t sent you a unit. Honestly I do think some of the other youtubers are really shooting themselves in the foot by making their enthused, overly positive reviews for a pretty mediocre (to my ears) sounding device. Back to the picks: i had been on that journey and really think they are fun and worth to experiment with. Selling a piece of plastic for mor than 20bucks sounds bad taste though. Crazy times where manufacturers think they can stick whatever price tag they want to anything they create. I will admit we all have educated them that way😊.
i thought the ernie ball .60mm sounded best personally. sounded like a good blanace of frequencies to me.
Steel picks for me. 0.3mm is thin as air but plays like +2.0mm pick, doesn't care if it has couple file marks on it to have texture, is pretty much indestructible and doesn't wear and costs like 3€ for 12 pieces.
Does it damage your guitar finish? Which guitar?
@@mylogify Electric and steel acoustic. And yeah, it would damage the finish. But I can't remember when was the last time I hit the body while playing. Last time I worried about my pick damaging the guitar was probably when I tried aluminium Teckpicks from Dunlop and with those it was about leaving fine aluminium dust everywhere which probably is conductive and so not a good thing inside mics.
I'm not so picky when it comes to my picks so it's not likely that I will pick this pick up.

I’ve tried lots of picks…spent 40 bucks on a red bear pick (yep, I’m an idiot)…always go back to my prime tone jazzIII xl .88-1.0mm every time!!!
Probably the name Martin & Co., the elaborate packaging and the long description justify the price. These make you forget when playing that it is a plectrum like any other. So it’s a kind like opium. But do not forget:“Zu viel Opium bringt Omi und Opi um!“
The saddest part is those 4.5 stars 6 reviews. I'd like to think they're just company people or even worse bots, but then i look around at people and a strong sensation of doubt assails me.

I don't like to play with a pick, I just use my fingers also for the electric guitar.
I mean I personally paid $80 for a 8mm pick made of polymer they use with nasa, /no pick noise, Never wears and is my go to was it worth it to me yes. For others it's a preference enjoy what you enjoy just keep playing
picks for 20 bucks will ruin me financially. Not even in a long run. More like within a week.
They all sounded exactly the same to me. I’ll stick to my fender heavys.
Buy some Dunlop Tortex orange picks and call it a day. 👍
Nah. I play Ernie Ball Super Glow (because they look great) and are hard despite being "0.72mm" thick and are easy to hold. Do the job for what I play which is Stoner, Doom, Blade Runner inspired Drone etc., heavy slow stuff through a 4x12 and a 150w Stoneham Model T & a small(ish) pedalboard, guitar is a heavily customised Fender Telecaster '72 Deluxe. I always go for the 12 quantity pack & it costs around £6.
Why? Because I lose them more often than not, be it during live gigs, rehearsals or even at home in the washing machine. We all lose them. I'll never pay £25 for one plectrum that I will likely lose. I'm putting that money towards spare strings, cables, KT88s, duct tape to hold the strap in place if the button comes off and all that stuff you will need.
I get it, I appreciate it, but I don't want it for the real world.
I use different picks for different playing styles and different guitars. (Here comes the flex:)
I have 3 Huffschmid picks of varying thicknesses, a Blue Chip, a few V-picks, and a couple of handfuls of promotional picks. I'm still trying to find the one that will do it all, or maybe I just need to focus more on playing.
I like the Jazz III XL for everything purpose, and Flow Standard 1.5mm and 2.00mm for relaxed playing...
Well I spend $40 on Blue Chip Picks . But I’ve now had the same two for coming Upto 3 years so . $25 is kinda ok I guess .

Thought i could hear a bit of difference between them, but on a phone, who knows. Is one better than the other. If it makes you happy and serves the song, then go for it. For us ranked amateurs, it's probably not worth it.
A pick is a pick.
Good acoustic guitar $1500-4000. Good microphone $500-1600. Pick like a blue chip that cuts down on string noise, 30 dollars. Yes, it's worth it if you're recording. Just like putting new heads on a drum set.

This is martins answer to bluechip picks. Everybody in the bluegrass world plays martins and everybody uses bluechip picks. Toneslab has been gaining popularity recently too

Nope. It’s Hetfield picks all the way for me. Acoustic, Rock, Metal. All with 1.14s. Second favorite is the cheapo Gibsons in thin.

That martin pick is overpriced garbage. But there are tonnes of quality picks you can check out that are a little bit pricier. Usually because they're handmade. I use an Australian brand called Jaketto picks. Also Chicken picks Bad Azz 3.2mm.
I'm always amazed when guitarists will balk at the price of some picks, when picks are literally how you connect with the instrument for most players, but then happily drop $1700 on a Fender Tone Master Pro.
Sometimes the only value of a products is it's exaggerated price - even if it is not at all better then much cheaper alternatives. Capitalism at its worst ....
