Hello, my great grandparents were from Ljubljana. My grandmother could read, write and speak Slovene even though she was born in the United States. You have inspired me to learn the language. Can’t wait to visit Slovenia and try it out. Excellent videos!
*rewatces 10 times to learn this* 😂. I have a few words Down I think Hi- Živjo Nice- Lepo Yes- Da No- Ne Good day- Dobre dan Hi there- Zdravo. Bye- Adijo Correct me if I’m wrong on these I don’t trust translator that much lol
Thank you so much :0 My Dad is Slovenian but had to go to Germany, Bcs of the war in Yugoslavia. I really wanna learn Slovenian because most of our family still lives there x x
Thank you for the videos, I will watch more. I normally say 'oprosti, govorish anglesko'?' Would that be excusable if you have a foreign accent? I know the formal is oprostite, govorite...' . I often in West Slovenia or on the Coast. Say, Sezhana area. Answering is not a problem, e.g. if they say Zhivjo, I say Zhivio, if they say dober dan, I say dober dan. They all seem happy I use some slovenian. For directions, I say 'oprosti, grachishche? They normally understand and give me directions. One question, how do you say 'roundabout' in Slovene? I noticed that very few people know the word 'roundabout', but there are like 100 roundabouts in Koper.... sometimes they understand if I say 'circle'. I apologise, I do not have symbols for ZH CH and SH. A lesson about directions with a map would be 8. Thank Tjasa
I think people won't mind you using the informal way of speech with them, because they will just appreciate your effort in learning the language. And roundabout in slovene is KROŽIŠČE. Thanks for your comment and the suggestion. :D
Wow, bravissima! Grazie per i tuoi video! I could hardly find any instructional ones on youtube and finally i saw yours on pinterest and I have quickly subscribed because it has been half an year that I am trying to learn Slovene from some courses but I still need more because it is such a difficult language. Adults do not seem to have the courage to make any videos that can teach slovene's language, its garmmar, history etc. You are an example to them and to the new generations, really...good job. :) Keep on going .
Hello! My grandparent were both born and raised in Slovenia, and emigrated to the US to be married. My father didn't speak English until he was 6 years old and went to school. Unfortunately, he didn't speak it with us kids. :( I've visited there with him, and it is a beautiful country. :-) Side note: I find it difficult or distracting to hear/concentrate on the words with the background music--sorry! I think the video would be better without the music...
this is awesome! I live with a Canadian family with a Slovenian background. They taught me how to sing a song about a rooster. I've been trying to find the lyrics to that song but I can't find it anywhere.
Hey, could you make a video about the history of Iuguslavia and how was the communication between people from different regions of the Baltic in that period? There were always different languages even with the unity of all countries? Also give us some historical context. Nice videos
Hej, I'm watching your videos and another lady's. because you both agree it's hard to learn , and you sometimes can't understand each other. Don't feel bad we can't always understand each other over here in America.
It is a word that can be used when asking a question. So it is not necessary to use it. Did you call the doctor? = (Ali) si poklical/a zdravnika? Can you help me? = (Ali) mi lahko pomagaš? So even if you do not use the word Ali in most cases the person will still know it was a question. Hope this answered your question and thanks for watching. 😄
Tjasa Grabnar Yeah it helped, thanks :) I'm going to visit Slovenia in September, so I'm trying to learn some basic words, your videos are very helpful :)
