My father died over 10 years ago. He studied classical guitar and flamenco as well, he used to play this song every time anyone ever got a guitar out, he died before he could ever teach me, and I could never remember the name of the song, one night I was laying down to sleep and had classical music on a playlist, and this video came on. I don't know how fast I must have sat up as soon as I heard the first few measures, but I will never forget the joy of finding this piece of music. Now it will be my turn to pass it on to my children someday.
I am just turned 80 and have just started to learn classical guitar and I wish had started 70 years ago. What a superb performance of this popular guitar piece, I shall keep on practising and if I live to be 100 I might be able to play it 10% as well!
You've pretty much got it. People think Romanza is a beginners piece, probably because most people can manage the first few bars but to play it properly and smoothly takes quite a lot of technique and that comes with time and practice.
I totally love, LOVE your rendition of Romanza as you inspire my to study classical guitar and practice hard every day. I have only started playing guitar about one year ago and as such I struggle across 4 frets with pain in my fingers. I figure the challenge, well received, will make me a better guitarist over time. Any advice you can give me would be appreciated.
I requested this to be played by the acoustic guitarist at Icon of the Seas cruise ship last February 2024. He gladly played it while doing his guitar session at Icon's Central Park. What an unforgettable & memorable moment.
I first heard this piece of music in an empty beach early in the morning. I was 7 years old then.It was haunting me for 51 years until then.... I found it again. Thank you so much. God Bless. ❤️
This song brings me so many memories of my beloved father who recently passed away,he used to play this song in my childhood , when I was a teenager he wanted me to learn to play guitar like him, but I felt that I didn't have as much passion for it as he had,now I regret not having heard him
Far out man i just burst into tears reading ur comment my father is still with us and he used to try to teach me this aswell. Now i know i have to learn this for hum before he goes. Im gonna miss him so much. Bless u and ur father. Take care
I dont really have a relationship with my dad, hes always busy with work so we never grew a bond, i dont wanna regret it later in life tho so i try to make one but its just very awkward because we are like strangers that live in the same household. He bought me a guitar 3 years ago and i got hooked on it a few months ago out of nowhere, i use the guitar as a bridge because he used to be a musician in his childhood.
After hearing this gentleman performing this piece, which I have been trying to master over the last 5 months, I threw MYSELF into the fireplace. The instrument is innocent of my criminal playing...
I never heard of this music/song...but the first time hearing this, i cried... it’s so beautiful. Makes me remembering the sweet memories i never had. What an amazing music..
Al, you used to play outside the cathedral in Truro, Cornwall years ago if im not much mistaken. i just wanted to let you know that my father and i would listen to your music often after church services (i was a chorister) and it was always a privilege to hear you play, so thank you for that

Perfection! I first heard this melody back in 1966 when visiting family in Norway. Lill Lindofors had just released a lovely vocal version of this called "Du Er Den Ende". It was a huge success. I bought the LP then and there and have enjoyed it for years. I later learned that the song was based on a traditional Spanish melody made for guitar. I now believe that your guitar playing skills were made expressly for this melody - Bravo!
My father passed away 10yrs ago and this reminds me of my childhood, he used to play this using guitar/ukulele. I've been dying to know the title of this, luckily I attended a xmas party last night in a Spanish Restaurant here in the Philippines and I suddenly heard this as a background song. 🥺 I searched all classical songs guitar fingerstyle cover and i found it at last, 🥺 Thank you!
I think this is the best rendition of this piece that I've seen or heard anywhere. And I've seen a lot! Love the dynamics and the perfectly-placed tempo changes and little flourishes here and there. When done right, these things raise the emotional impact of the piece to a whole new level. Wonderful job, Al.

It's been many years now that he plays a classical guitar with this kind of music. He also plays this beautiful piece and he plays it well. He actually plays it the way Christopher Parkening plays it. Ever heard of him? His version has more chords to it.
