    I love all the Predator movies. The first two have a special place in my early teens... However, Predators is one of the only films I’ve seen at the theater on two consecutive days!

    Are the 4k disks in this collection the same as the 4k disks in the 4 disk collection? Audio and video wise?

    Anyone here has it?
    How does it work when upmixing it from DTS HD to Neural x?

    As for the movie itself it’s an innovative take and took some guts to change the formula. Some of the casting choices are suspect however. It’s certainly stronger than predator 2. Idk how much of a compliment that is though lol.

    Looks like I’ll be picking up the set. Did they come in individual cases or was it a sleeve with just discs ? Side note Will you be reviewing the transporter 3 ? Thanks

    Since it was shot in native 1080p how could upscaling the 2k DI add anything?

    • @therealshanelee
      @therealshanelee  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A less compressed 1080p source will look better than a highly compressed 1080p source. You'll have more data to retain detail.

      Don't forget the original colour resolution was higher/more bit-depth than commercial HD and blu-ray. And less compression on both optical (as Shane said) and colour rez. And obviously the sound has been improved as well.

    I was hoping for better quality of the overall box set but I’ll still be picking it up

    IMO, this was better than Predator 2, but Noland was crazy, man!

    WHEN ARE PEOPLE EVER GOING TO UNDERSTAND BLACK BARS TOP AND BOTTOM OF SOME MOVES?
    This is how the movie is supposed to be!
    If it did fill up your whole Screen you wouldn't SEE ALL THE PICTURE!
    You wouldn't see all of the top, bottom,left,right of the picture!
    Some Directors DON'T use Black bars and it fills your TV Screen up in other words if you were seeing the same movie at the Cinema the Big Screen WOULDN'T open right out..

    • @therealshanelee
      @therealshanelee  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I should do a video on the topic.

      @@therealshanelee Yes mate you DEFINITELY should!
      Some people just have NO clue why they are seeing Black Bars!
      They even try to distort the picture by filling up their Screen and wonder why the movie looks odd!
      So damn simple...
      Star Wars was shot in Widescreen with the Cinema Screen rolling right out so that's why you get Blackbars!
      The Avengers was shot where the Cinema Screen didn't open right out, but it would fill your TV Screen right up!
      Yes mate please Educate these people with a Video.

    At least the picture quality doesn't fucking suck. But the movie gets really silly sometimes. Why does our protagonist use their medic as bait?? That's nuts!

  • @matthatton3763
    @matthatton3763 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Come on mate. Your black letterbox bars example encourages ignorance (and doesn't even work as a joke). That is NOT what happens. They don't place black bars over the content. If you're going to run a channel like this at least know more than the average pleb please.

      Matt Hatton yea i noticed when you chose full screen or bars on movies the bars dont go away they just zoom up to fit screen and you actually lose some content on the sides.

    • @matthatton3763
      @matthatton3763 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep people wail and moan about "not getting the whole picture" filling their screen but never noticed or complained about the curtains moving in/over the screen in the theatre when stuff was just regular widescreen not scope!!
      And yep I agree - when TVs weren't widescreen you lost about HALF of a cinemascope screen by filling the TV vertically. Now it's less, but still lose a lot.
      Also, when I was a kid stuff like Close Encounters in pan and scan (where they moved the picture you saw on telly electronically to see the rest/what you were missing in a cinemascope frame) on TV was a joke because Spielberg had placed characters on opposite sides of the scope screen to emphasise their literal and figurative separation. But on old fashioned tellies you had people talking to no-one in the frame! And the pan and scan couldn't even make it to the other side (of what was in the original widescreen image) before a cut!!! XD
      The next thing that makes the whole "black bars on top of the picture" thing idiotic is not one of those people ask WHY anyone would do that (the answer of course being there is no reason, it doesn't make sense, because they don't)!! It makes a lot more sense to think of it as using the whole picture/OAR and it sitting on top of a black background because scope/super widescreen films are much wider than they are tall. So there'll be black space around it. Again, like in a theatre.

      Apparently you haven’t watched many of my videos or streams. You may want to check out my theater tour. Thanks for watching.

    • @matthatton3763
      @matthatton3763 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey mate. Nope, I have watched a few (not the tour). And I'd take issue with your wording there as well which sometimes isn't very well thought out (there's a clanger in the Predator 4k review about film grain which was another head-shaking moment in terms of semantics). But again, that doesn't change your bad example here. It's important, ESPECIALLY if you do understand (which I think you do). At least address the actual post here please instead of referring to other videos.
      You're putting yourself up as an expert of sorts by having the channel and making such statements and showing stuff which 'explains' your point. So I think it's pertinent to take you to task on it. I'm not just being the usual hater or armchair critic.
      But when you go to the trouble of doing a graphic to show what you mean about letterbox bars and then hilariously CROP/obscure the non scope picture of yourself and yes actually put bars OVER the picture to cut off your head (as well as punching in on the original framing), you're actually encouraging the general ignorant view! As well as misrepresenting what happens when a scope ratio picture (like this movie) is presented in its OAR. So twice as wrong. It's pretty embarrassing really and why I took the time to challenge it. I did think you were just having a bit of fun to make the point, but hoo boy you did the opposite of clarifying! And basically the opposite of what happens.
      As I said I'm not just hating and being snarky though. Let me say that one thing I really do appreciate was how you put the colours in context here. Most reviews will talk about a movie's skintones or colouring being "unrealistic" or something without considering that it was the intent of the director/cinematographer/tone and so on. I loved that you prefaced the comments on colour by addressing that it's not generally that kind of film and so not to expect that. So thanks for that!

      I’m giving an example of what the bars will look like on your display. I’m not shooting these 3 minute reviews with intent on recreating the cinematic experience in mind. I’m sure most viewers understand what point I’m getting at. These videos are made to get my thoughts on the movie/ film I’m discussing in a quick manner using some brief points. Like I always say “ These are MY thoughts on the video and audio quality.” However you took it. Well that’s up to you.
