In this week's video I install what I think is the best mod you can do to your Yamaha YXZ1000R for the money. At only $150, the heavy flywheel mod to your YXZ helps with the drive ability at low speeds for trail riding. In this video I'll briefly show you how to install the heavy flywheel on my 2019 YXZ1000R but more importantly I'll show you the comparison of before and after the heavy flywheel install. Hopefully this video is helpful to fellow YXZ owners, enjoy!

Thanks! Yea I got a new recorder and mic figured I'd try it out lol But now I can have my mic on and talk with my helmet on and itll be decent quality for the videos.

Every time I go to browns camp I always hit that first trail in my gmc nice and easy trail to start off the trip

I'll be honest man, I dont know much about engines but I love recreational motor sports. The way you broke down the before and after behavior of the engine after installing that new flywheel was really well-done. Found you through Derek Tippner; great content here man!

Well turns out there is one on there already, guess I have an extra. I did just snap my driveshaft in half though. Lol
@@danjim7056 Ouch! Not because of the heavier flywheel? I just ordered the heavier flywheel. The people I ride with are technical riders.
@@tennesseevalleyoffroaders1211 na, nothing to do with the flywheel. I learned the driveshafts in these are relatively weak. Mild steel shaft welded to hardened steel, the welds will rip right off the mild steel. I also dumped the clutch at like 9 grand lol

I have a supercharged 16 with 29s and a light flywheel and I can only drive about 5mph I ride mostly woods so thinking this may be the ticket

I’m looking into buy 2019 SS model was curious if you would need to do the same type of flywheel. Like that you one of the only channel doing 2019 Yamaha mods keep up the great job.
It would help out a SS yxz as well in slower trails for sure
I own a 19 SS model and ride a lot of tight tails. I don't think a flywheel is really necessary on an SS. I've never had it stall yet but, I'm sure it would only make things better. I would first spend money on 4 point harnesses and do some extra lighting like Briguy503. Also an ecu tune for the money, makes a huge difference in the power on the YXZ! I also did a alba exhaust tip, for $95 on ebay. Still forest approved. Sounds great, more power and is just slightly louder than stock, but way quieter than an aftermarket pipe.
@@ryanbieberich6332 Awesome! Yea I'm not too sure how great the heavy flywheel helps the SS but it helps the manual alot.
I did the hess flywheel weight on my 19ss. Does seem to help some. But you still need to keep some momentum on the slower trails. I still notice the green light come on on the dash when going below 5 mph. I wish we could lower that.
I run a feather light flywheel. Weighs 2.1 lbs

What about throttle responce when you mash on it? Does it wind up slower?
I dont notice a difference. I've raced other yxz with stock flywheel and its still dead even
@@BriGuy503 thanks for the info. I ride the dunes mostly but mine stalls really easy trailer loading or on a technical trail where I have to stop and go. I end up dumping the clutch and going like an idiot out of frustration. Sounds like it would help me with little consequence.

The heavy flywheel does rob power at the top end, so please beware. I am on my second YXZ and it is much funner to go fast than slow. I have the 2019 SS SE and i can rock crawl in my sleep with it.
Yea the heavy flywheel is better for the manual yxz, for slower trail riding I think. It definitely helps for the style of riding I like to do.
I don't know on this machine, but on a car having a heavy flywheel makes high rpm more stable. And absorbs vibration.
What did you install above the console to mount your radio to?
Just a piece of metal I bent up. It's like a c-channel with a flange to pop rivet to the console
I just bought 30x10-14 Maxxis carnivores for a softer ride around the rough slow speed trails at camp. Mine is a standard model 2016 model. I haven't put them on yet but i was thinking i would have to put the 2019 gearing on it. I think this mod is going to be the answer i need for my bigger wheel mod. Nice video. Thanks

The flywheel is more for a manual 3 pedal yxz. Not the sport shift
