      I've left tale of two cities after 3-4 pages, very difficult for me. And again Pride and prejudice is waiting in my book shelf.
      But i didn't find Canterbury tales this tough, may be because of the translator, i guess? Though it is much older.

    Pride and Prejudice is my all time favourite. I am reading Sense and Sensibility these days. I read a few pages everyday along with the other books that I read. This makes it easier for me to read classics.
    Loved this video.

      Yes! Reading them slowly also helps. Sense and Sensibility took the longest for me actually to get through because I feel it is her most long drawn out book. That's why the abridged audiobook was quite nice to listen to.

You have really touched my feeling like the sentences are quite big somethimes I even have to read thw whole sentence of 4 5 lines to understood wht she meant. I'm currently reading PERSUASION and it is really good but a little confusing because of similar name for instance Charles. All in all I loved your video ❤❤

    Awesome video! I tried reading P&P and Persuasion after watching the 1995 P&P film and the 2022 Netflix Persuasion and I understood the films better than the books. I tried the Persuasion audiobook from the library and it was so boring I had to stop because even at 2.5 speed I was couldn’t make it past chapter one. I found it so boring. The books are so slow, confusing and super hard to understand. What speed do you recommend listening to the audiobook? Also do you recommend following along the audiobook with the actual books? Also which is your favourite editions of Jane Austen books? Are the unabridged editions or the abridged editions easier to read ?

      I'm very disappointed in JK Rowling to be honest. I really did not expect her to have such views and to say such things. I have stopped following her on Twitter and I have said I will not read any of her upcoming books. With that said, Harry Potter is something that has shaped my childhood and it has some beautiful lessons about equality and believing in yourself. I think no one can take away from us the joy we felt reading that series and that nostalgia will stay with me forever.
      I can't deny that JK Rowling wrote these books that mean so much to me. So I'm on my journey of trying to separate the art from its artist...

    Jane Austen’s abridged versions can actually be boring, one has to start with her pure writing… may be read a paragraph twice or thrice to make sense of it and eventually get into the rhythm of her language. We had Pride and Prejudice in school (icse), the abridged ver and our kind teacher recommended we read the original from library. It did take us time, but we acknowledged her advise as we understood Jane Austen better as a writer.
    She has been the most modern literary lady in that era and is a good inspiration to us, as we still feel the social criticism she described in her books exists till date irrespective of the country we are in.

    I hate these kind of videos, you titled it 'how to READ Jane austen' but talk about her book plots and then freaking audiobooks??? If you're lazy to read, don't assume others to be and don't put misleading titles and clickbaits if you don't know how to talk about it

    • @fandomnewbie
      @fandomnewbie  3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      The fact that you think that listening to audiobooks is lazy and not considered reading is very narrow minded and also kinda ableist. I don’t think it’s fair to judge how other people enjoy consuming books. Listening to audiobooks has helped me tremendously get through tougher works of literature and has helped me enjoy classics that I would never have gotten through otherwise because of the way they are produced - with voice actors, music and the way the story is narrated. It’s massively unfair to call that lazy.

    • @saniyaa7013
      @saniyaa7013 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@fandomnewbie I listen to audiobooks as well when I can't read or I'm doing something procrastinating, but that fact that you put 'how to READ' Jane austen in the title, and the first half just talk abt her books and then how to listen to audiobooks and not how to understand her novels is ableist, misleading and a pure clickbait.

    No, it's called Austen knew how to write COMPLETE sentences and use proper English and we as modern readers are whiny entitled lazy brats who can barely follow Where's Waldo.
    The 1800s weren't even that long ago. My God.
