    I'm 3 weeks post-op double jaw surgery & I'm utterly sleep deprived! I'm waking multiple times during the night, having vivid nightmares everynight & in the dreams I've injured my jaw in a car crash, plane crash... Etc. I take paracetamol & ibuprofen before I go to bed and I sleep with my head elevated as recommended, but this makes no difference. I'm in pain and discomfort all night & the nightmares are getting me down 😞

      i had that nightmares when i developed an abscess in the jaw, almost three weeks after the surgery, after the treatment of the abscess i got better and no nightmares.

    HI Andrew, many thanks for your videos. They are so informative, honest and very well articulated. I have been doing lot of research regarding this procedure. It does seem a common issue with Asians? My mother is Chinese, my father western. I am 50 years old, obviously alot older than you!! I have always had an under bite, however, it is getting progressively worse, more especially over last 4-5 years and I have been told it will get even more worse. My appearance has changed, not in a good way but the worst bit is my teeth are just corroding away as they are not aligned. I am on my last two molars both of which had had a root canal fitted, but will be due to be replaced soon.I am in Australia and will have to fund the AUS$ 25-30k (approx GBP 15K, myself for the op! At the moment I am trying to weigh up the need for the op? I am a young 50 year old. Note sure if at my time of life it is worth it. My kids relief school dentist said to me there day, not very subtly, wow what happen to you? Have you been shot in the mouth? My poor 12 year old was so upset with her. I am terrified to have it done, plus the seeing the before, during and after Pics are horrendous . I am just waffling now, just good to see and hear your views. Many tanks for listening to the rundown of my dental issues.x

      I think jaw shape and issues are definitely hereditary, I have noticed it more with Asians but that might be biased.
      Whether you choose surgery has two main aspects - mechanical (ie can you bite, talk correctly) and psychological (aesthetic). If you have mechanical issues with eating I would strongly consider doing it. If it is just for aesthetic reasons then only you can judge whether you can overcome that issue.
      For your case - if you are 50 then you should consider that you will probably live for another 40-50 years, so don't feel it's a waste! You might have to live with the state of your jaw for a really long time still. Also if a dentist is saying that your mouth looks bad, I would probably really think about doing it. In the UK I got my surgery from the NHS for free. If cost is an issue then would really think about getting the surgery done in a cheaper country perhaps in SEA. If someone asked me to pay £15k for the surgery I think I would still anyway, it's worth it.

    Hi! thanks for vid! im at 3 weeks and still getting alot of pain especially headaches and they get worse when i lay down did you have the same problem? x

    • @Andytizer
      @Andytizer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t remember having headaches at 3 weeks, that sounds more like 1 week post-op level pain! I would ask for some stronger pain medication from your doctor, it’s pretty much essential. Perhaps it’s related to swelling in the head?
      How was having the surgery during COVID lockdown? Hospital must have been more stressful - I remember my consultant saying that if I had a bad cold then they would have to reschedule the surgery. But staying at home is pretty ‘normal’ in lockdown times!

      Bentley S yes I am about the same - about 6 weeks post op and swelling is much bigger on my left side. Get it checked out because it could be a haematoma or an infection like it is with mine!

      Andrew Tsai my right side only hurts when I eat it feels like my cheek is going numb and when I do my mouth stretches it is uncomfortable but I thought maybe it’s all part of the healing. I don’t have any bruises or anything in the inside of my mouth

    U didnt have a splint at 3 weeks post op?

  • @joganike10
    @joganike10 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Andrew. Just giving you an update on my surgery. I did end up getting a splint. I just spent my first night in the hospital and it was very uncomfortable. Due to the swelling in my nasal cavity, my tear ducts were quite active and leaking all night. The only thing that got me to sleep was the morphine. Was your first night this uncomfortable in the hospital? Cheers, Steven.

    • @Andytizer
      @Andytizer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes first night was really bad as you have said, but Day 3/4 is the worst due to the increased swelling. Day 1/2 is mitigated by the strong drugs they give you in hospital e.g. morphine and steroids. Make sure to ask for as strong pain killers as possible to take home! Glad to hear nothing went wrong, I hope symptoms improve as time goes on.

    • @Andytizer
      @Andytizer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had an appointment with the dental hospital and I asked about splints. Splints are normally used if the jaws don’t meet vertically at some point eg molars, they are placed to help the bite meet together. Hope all is going well with your recovery!

    • @joganike10
      @joganike10 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrew Tsai Is there another platform I could message you other than a TH-cam comment section? Also, that's interesting to know about splints. Most other recovery blogs/vlogs I've seen, people have had splints for 2-6 weeks. Mine, unfortunately, will be 6 weeks, but I'm not too bothered by it because I'm not wired shut at all. My recovery since leaving the hospital has been going very well. They gave me morphine after the hospital, but I've only been using Tylenol. As far as swelling goes, only my lips have stayed significantly swollen, however, I didn't seem to have a peak swelling day as most others have had. It's stayed fairly consistent. The only real inconvenience so far has been a minor eye infection from excessive tear ducts drainage that has since gone away. My eye is still a little bit red though it's been a much better recovery than I could have asked for! Also, I was lucky enough to get in with my hair stylist the day before my surgery so I won't have to worry about my hair for another while at least haha

      @Andytizer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joganike10 Hi Steven you can message me on Facebook if you like (andytizer). Good thing you're not wired shut, I can't imagine anything worse. I had no idea you could get an eye infection in the eyes from the surgery, is this because the incision was close to the tear ducts?
      I'm looking forward to my haircut soon, I am starting to look a bit silly I probably haven't had a cut for 4 months.

    • @moochachaa
      @moochachaa 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a splint in for a total of 6 weeks
      During those 6 weeks I was wired shut for 2 weeks. It was rough and I’m so glad I got that splint removed last week.
      I remember the first night in the hospital I was so swollen and my nose bled for 8 hours, I started to bleed out of my EYE because my nose was so clogged, that was the scariest thing of my life.

    hey, I had my double jaw surgery 1 week ago and my face is numb and my upper jaw like My upper teeth don't feel like it's mine. if that makes any sense

    • @Andytizer

      Kamerika Anna I know exactly how you feel. The good news is that the upper jaw feeling will return soon, but the lower jaw takes a lot longer. I’m 1 month post op now and it’s still very numb, but at least I can mostly feel my upper teeth.

      A guy I work with had this surgery maybe 3 years ago and he told me a few months ago he’s still numb under his eyes next to his nose. I’m taking nerve-supporting supplements! I’m 6 days out and googled what to expect at 3 weeks because I want to get back to the gym and dance classes once I can bend forward and backwards without blood coming out my nose/going down my throat. Regarding swelling, am grateful to covid for normalizing wearing masks 😅 This video was encouraging, thank you!

      @@lunatickid331 probably! I regained completely normal sensation in my face and mouth. I forget what else I was taking aside from B12 (which I still take) because the others were expensive so I didn't get more. I was also following nutritional guidance for nerve healing.
