  • Si Bheag Si Mhor is one of the best know compositions of the blind Irish harper Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738). In this fiddle lesson I teach the basic tune, and then look at some possible ornamentation. I use on-screen sheet music, and a free pdf of the music is available to subscribers. See my address at the bottom of this description.

I‘m a german (Bremen) hobby-musician and play already guitar for many years, the celtic harp since 2017 and now I‘m learning the violin since my brother found the last fiddle of our father in 2018. Your lesson helps me a lot as well them from some other irish fiddle teachers. Thanks a lot for your inspiration!

Hi Chris, beautiful variation of "Si Bheag Si Mhor", a tune that I am already studying.
I find your advice on how to insert ornamentations in each tune very interesting.
It is very nice that in Irish music each musician interprets the melodies according to his mood.
Thanks again for this other very interesting video
    and for your wonderful interpretation.

Beautiful song! Well done Chris! May i suggest a video of Midnight on the Water with history of the song and possible ornamentations as you so skillfully do on other songs?

Could you do Josephine's Waltz? That's such a great piece, too.
