    Very nice, Chris. Even though I know how to play, I prefer videos like this where you go through step-by-step. I guess it keeps me more involved in the game.

      It is the idea. Not only to refresh others' minds, but so you guys can keep me straight. I made some mistakes in this video. Admittedly, I have not played Adv for nearly a year. So I am getting back into the swing of things.

    By far, this has been the most helpful “advanced play” instructional I have seen yet!
    This clears up some confusion I had on the Adv X card. And I enjoyed your play by play commentary, I was really getting into the game!🤣🤣

      Tabletop Sports Delaware Quick question though. Does the Catcher’s PB rating only apply in SADV? The rule book is kinda confusing.

    • @ChristopherWalrath
      @ChristopherWalrath  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just woke up. Let me check it out later. The section it is in should either be shaded or not to indicated Advanced or SADv IIRC. Been years since I looked at it.

    • @ChristopherWalrath
      @ChristopherWalrath  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      OK. Looking at the rulebook, from section 11 and on, white paper is advanced, grey shaded is SADv. Looks like it is shaded grey, hence SADv. That being said, if you like the rule, you can always incorporate it into advanced. That's kind of the beauty of this game. Play it your way.

    At 40:00, on a "failed hit & run; must steal" play, you pulled out the BASIC stealing chart.
    I'm wondering: was that on purpose, because it wasn't truly a steal situation (i.e., you hadn't called for a steal)? Or was it simply an oversight, and indeed you should/could have used the advanced steal procedure and chart?
    WAIT A MINUTE: maybe I just answered my own question. (I reviewed what you did at 17:29.) The advanced procedure is to consider "held/not held" and "catcher's arm", which you did do. So that brought you. back to the BASIC stealing chart (but with advanced adjustments)???

      I will need to watch the video again to answer. Gimee a bit. Thanks.

      Okie dokie. There is no 'Advanced' stealing chart. There are Advanced Rules you use to augment the use of the Basic Stealing chart in Advanced play. Did I get it right? Meaning your question. I think that was what you were asking? If not, set me straight. I am glad folks still check these videos out. Does my heart good.

      Strat-O-Matic Delaware - Yes, you interpreted my question correctly and answered it clearly.
      My wife gave me, for Christmas, any table top baseball game I choose. And so I’m thinking my choice through. It’s been quite a while since I bought and played Strat-O-Matic regularly (1979 season). I prefer Dynasty (more detail and use of sabermetrics) and Inside Pitch (direct pitcher/batter interaction every at-bat). Or maybe I’ll plough new ground: Replay or Ball Park or Payoff Pitch. Your videos make such decisions more informed albeit no less difficult! Thank you!!!

      Glad I got it right and you are welcome. 1979. We are family! Yeah, that's where baseball started for me.

    Hey Chris. Stopped the Game at 26:15 Mark on the Video to Ask a Question? I Believe on the Advanced Fielding Chart, You Must Roll all 3 Six Sided Dice Due to the White Dice Determines if a 2 Base Error has Occurred or Not? Correct. Thanks and Roll On!!

    • @ChristopherWalrath
      @ChristopherWalrath  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some error readings read E(2) on the chart. Maybe in SADV. Don't know if I will ever dive in THAT deeply.

    Great video and explanation of the advanced charts! Where did you get the score card from?

    • @ChristopherWalrath
      @ChristopherWalrath  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is the old Status Pro score sheet. I found it online and made copies. But I highly recommend the Payoff Pitch Score sheet. It has spaces for all of the ratings in all of my games. A very versatile sheet. I am glad my video could help you out. Thanks, man.

    Nice video. I think the hit and run with Horn, down two and Ripken on second with no outs, would get the manager fired! ; ). I played basic as a kid but I just ordered a new game and I will be playing advanced for the lefty/righty splits.

    Hi Chris. What do you do if the batter is a switch-hitter? (Left or right)

    • @ChristopherWalrath
      @ChristopherWalrath  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The batter bats opposite the pitchers arm. V LHP, RHB and vice versa.

    Chris in the basic game of stratomatic. Baseball. In the card for the batter (. ) a +++. What is that do.

    • @ChristopherWalrath
      @ChristopherWalrath  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Groundball(2b)A++, for example? Well, that would mean that if the infielders were in, then you would ignore the groundball and the play becomes a SINGLE*.

    Chris, what do you think about my automatic holding system in SOMB Advanced game?
    If runner has 1-12 safe chance or more - roll d6:
    for 12 - hold on 1,
    for 13 - hold on 1-2,
    for 14 - hold on 1-3,
    for 15 - hold on 1-4,
    for 16 - hold on 1-5,
    for 17... - hold always.
    Thank you in advance

    • @ChristopherWalrath
      @ChristopherWalrath  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not a bad way of tackling it. Nice and easy.

    • @glfhfghjkl2246
      @glfhfghjkl2246 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chris, I think to change hold system start with 13:
      for 13 - hold on 1,
      for 14 - hold on 1-2,
      for 15 - hold on 1-3,
      for 16 - hold on 1-4,
      for 17 - hold on 1-5,
      for 18... - hold always. To my mind 12 (60% success) very risky to steal and not deserve to hold

    Thank you, Chris! Wright please how often and in what situation do you use Infield In?

    • @ChristopherWalrath
      @ChristopherWalrath  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pretty much anytime a runner is on third. These instances I will have the infield in. If the pitcher is probably going to lay down a bunt. If there is a good bunter at the plate with 0 or 1 outs. If there is a runner on first and third with 1 out, depending on the batter, I would probably keep the infield back hoping for a GIDP. That is the basic scenarios when I would have the infield in.

    • @glfhfghjkl2246
      @glfhfghjkl2246 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Chris! Now I use simple rule when runner on 3rd and fewer 2 outs - roll d6: 1-3 - Infield In, 4-6 - Infield Back

    • @ChristopherWalrath
      @ChristopherWalrath  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is Democratic, though not quite strategic. At the plate, .340 batter or .220? Good bunter? What are the chances of gidp with a runner on 1st? For strategy, these need to be considered.

    • @glfhfghjkl2246
      @glfhfghjkl2246 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Of cause, Chris. I just want to find strategy close to reality and universal for both teams

    • @ChristopherWalrath
      @ChristopherWalrath  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For ease and reference, you might make yourself up a situational chart that lays out what a major league manager might do in a given situation. That way you just refer to your home brew chart to see if you play infield in. This can be done with other aspects of the game as well. The beauty is this. You can definitely do with these games as you wish. That is the fun and satisfying part of it all.

      Should be able to access Rosters in the menu and bring it in. I have not used the PC game in a couple years. If you still have trouble, let me know. I will load it and, hopefully, walk you through it. I have the 2011 version. Hopefully not much has changed.

    I think hitting a batter is even worse than a walk. I would count it towards fatigue, regardless of the written rules.
