A year back I was heavily obsessed with car design, used to work on my design skills and car sketches every single day but a few months back I went through a bit of a rough patch which took a huge toll on my obsession and my love for car design. This video was really like a wake up call for me to get up and do better because I firmly believe I have a lot to give and prove to the design community and one day, just one day if i keep my head down and stay focused on creating my visions I will become one of the best. I do not mean this from a place of arrogance or cockiness but more from a self belief standpoint and putting the word out there so I can lock in and do better. Thank You Berk once again, I've been following your content since 2020, love seeing your work.
When I was about 12, I realised I was obsessed with car design. It got to a point where I started sending my designs to the likes of Ford, Jaguar (before Ford took over) and Vauxhall/Opel. I started building a portfolio and still have those designs today. As time went on, I learned of Photoshop and took it upon myself to learn it for album art designs. A few years ago I decided to try some car design in Photoshop, then I noticed Opel were holding a design competition, I entered my design and won a sketchbook filled with designs and ideas, they even left some pages blank for me to put some of my own designs in. As of today, few years ago again, I learned about a car company simulator videogame called Automation. It has a sandbox mode, which I prefer because it's not as restricted. There are some pre designed car bodies that you can use, but you still have the option to clear it and start from scratch using only the fixtures available. It has boosted my obsession with car design, now I'm considering designing cars for videogames. I jusy need to learn how to export those designs into something like Blender to refine my designs.
oh damn im early here anyway for some advice for people I was given some offers from universities for automotive design, some being unconditional. I 100% agree with Berk here you need to show honestly how obsessed you are with cars and design and how you express this to set yourself apart from everyone else. You don't need to have perfect, clean slate portfolio with flawless sketches, you need sketches and work that you think is useful and relevant and most accurately represents your skill and progression, these can be pages covered in sketches, clean art or maybe even very rough stuff.
do these jobs pay well like i want 80-90k after 4yrs of being in the job , is that realistic ? will this job be good in the future at 2028-2029 or will ai take over?
@@kyrian_cy i was stuckk between automotive design or industrial design idk cus i swear u get high wages when ur more older for car design i dont want that i want a job im passionate about that can also pay good

Good part of the day Berk. I'm so happy to hear that message. I swear to God, just yesterday I was browsing through Behance projects and felt so overwhelmed. Also, this was affirmation for the steps I decided to take (learning the same tools you mentioned). Wish you the best in your career and life. Thank you!
Best thing about university is learning about how many different niches of design there are. I’m a 2nd year student focusing on visualisation and cgi to get a foot in the door
I’ve been studying a business degree and am now considering to switch to study transportation design in Germany, I took higher level arts in high school and I’m obsessed with cars but I do think I need to brush up on my general art skills.
Im 37 years old, I work for a motorcycle company but not in design. I want to design a future motorcycle. I am a beginner in sketching, but know photoshop and blender well, know how motorcycle works. Planning to learn marker sketching, Unreal Engine 5, plasticity and Substance. Hope I complete the project in 2024.
Hey Berk! I've got a question: Would not having a diploma impact my chances of becoming a car designer? Also, any tips on more affordable schools or alternative paths for someone like me from Algeria who's finding it tough to finance studies abroad? Thanks for any advice you can offer!
In terms of schools, if you're aiming for a affordable I think Europe would be the best option (specifically Germany). But in Germany to study bachelors German language is required, but you can also study Bachelor of Industrial Design (or related) in your own country, and go for Masters to Germany in English.
With the birth of EV’s, there will be perhaps an increased demand for designers. There was a VW press conference a couple months ago where they revealed their plan moving forward, and they basically emphasized the importance of design in the near future and that it would be one of the main deciding factors for customers, especially with EV battery technology being similar across the industry. So, hopefully there will still be demand for car designers. 💪🏼
I think the way i would like to get in the field, is like getting into transport (eng) and then get in design field then (imo) there would be more job opportunities and i would like to work on other transport related project with automotive design.

May I ask if there is a promising future in car design? I studied mechanical engineering with a minor in product design and have always wanted to be an automotive designer but I had to give up on my dreams as there are no jobs in this field here in Singapore. Not sure if I can try Europe though...
What is your opinion on using AI Renderings if you are not proficient in 3D modeling, nor do you have the time to learn 3D modeling? The sketches and ideas are still mine, but the rendering is done by AI.
I have the talent of drawing and I can design, but I do not have a certificate and I have not studied this field. I can only create good shapes. How do I become a car designer? Please help me.
I have a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering and I want to be a car designer. Should I do my masters in automotive design or should I start with online courses?

Hi great video¡ Berk,Can I be a car designer without a college degree?
Automotive design died in the 1970s. Nowadays, all cars look the same more or less, all like soap boxes.
I watched the video more than three times only to find out that it talks about car design and not character design.🥲🥲
