Brings back childhood memories. Oh man, the cars, scorpios, sierras, escorts, kadetts, mk2 golfs, omegas, vectras, e30s, there was so many of them, and they are all gone. They were all so different and unique in their own ways. These days its all about having a 3 liter diesel Audi or BMW, no imagination at all. Makes me sad that these cars were so prone to rust.

These are old type engines, that sould like diesel, pull 2 tons of load easily and are reliable as hell!! I got 1986 Sierra, and it still runs great, even faster than some new cars of similar class.
My 2.4iGL (with aftermarket airco installed) had 143000km when I bought it 2nd hand and 700000km on the engine when I sold it. Always did maintenance myself and apart from worn keys and adjusting valves a million times it still ran and used almost no oil. Bullet proof, low hp and old tech engines with primitive EFI injection. Too bad the body was prone to rust.
I remember my first B reg Ford Scorpio Granada as it was badged, was just about the most luxurious Ford going at that point with the trusty 2.8 in it and mine had black doors and bonnet on a burgundy car and it was brilliant, think I paid £100 for it in 1999, only thing it did suffer was wonky void bushes or compliance bushes inheriting the problem from sister Sierra. It drove solid, faultless and with the executive pack on it had some nice extra's like a more enhanced rear passenger climate and sound console and the funky double unit amp and stereo with the sound joystick to put the beat anywhere you wanted it hehe. These MKIII Granada's were poor man's Jags and I always wanted a Cosworth 2.9, just about the best modern v6 out there. There were early diesel MKIII's but like its competitor the SD1, were pretty rare as were the diesel MK2's.

My second car was a scorpio 2,4i v6. No power at all but boy that car was quiet, comfy, smooth and very reliable. Drove much better than my granada 2.8i (but also a great car!). Still regret selling it for a ‘96 scorpio 2,9i Cosworth. Although more modern interior the last models had such crappy electronics that breaking down and trowing wiring harnasses at it were a monthly todo job...
My uncle once had a J reg Granada Mk3 Ghia. A very nice car, comfy and quiet. Sadly they suffered badly from the old tinworm like most Ford's of the era.
First put on the accumulator and then hook up the + terminal and then the terminal. And then it first unplugs - the terminal, then + the terminal detaches. And then the accumulator is removed. And not first hook the terminals and then read the battery into the socket back in front.
There's nothing "epic" with sitting cars. This car must be crawling with mice, rats and a whole lot of other rodents. Not to mention the damage on gaskets, seals and corrosion. Sitting car equals totalled car in my book.
Pressure wash that engine bay out, steam clean the exterior, clean inside, tap those seals out and fill with expanding foam and fiberglass then give a $60 rustoleam paint job. That engine will last years to come.
It looks like the European Ford Scorpio was either the inspiration for or was copied from the north American Ford Taurus. The cars look amazingly similar.
Guys I bought a 2001 grand Marquis that has been sitting for 5 years... Is it possible a lot of my injectors are frozen/stuck? The thing seems to be running on like 3 cylinders. Can gummed up fuel really ruin the fuel injectors in 5 years tho?? Pls respond!!!! It also seems to be blowing white smoke out the exhaust which I think is unburnt fuel maybe? Help
DaBossk When things been stood that long you gotta go the whole hog with a lot of things. Don’t get too stressed, if you’re handy with the spanner’s, we’re not talking crankshaft and big end levels of engineering. Change the spark plugs and leads, full tank of QUALITY fuel, use an additive/cleaner. Oil change and antifreeze coolant/flush. Check and clean all electrical plugs and connectors where possible, new battery, throttle body/carb clean. Then you should be something like, good luck with it.
Owned a Ford Scorpio V6 sedan like that with the updated dashboard. It was green and was a really nice car on the road.Sadly the automatik gearboxes on these cars was horrible and always broke down. Ford quality i guess.

An wash and service would do it nicely
Absolutely. A lovely old girl like that deserves plenty of TLC. I had the previous 2.9i Ghia 'hatch-back' model and it was a dream to drive.
sadly it'd be cheaper to go and find a scorpio of the same spec then do rust repairs on a 29 year old vehicle.

You had these back in the days as a hatchback... the Merkur Scorpio. Also a rare find in the US
