I thought previous videos were good, but man Dean, you really knocked this one outta the park. Great content, background sound, visual effects, and overall just a great tutorial. Thanks!
Love the Star Wars theme. Dean, I have move 5 of our clients to Azure for both server and desktop workloads. All thanks to your videos, you are doing a great job, keep it up!
Hey Dean, "AZURE ACADEMY"'s videos with "Star Wars" are OUT OF THIS WORLD BRO! What else could they be? Amazing. Thanks, is better when You have fun at teaching ando learning, isn't it? Regards Master Jedi
MAAAAN, thank you sensei. For real i did not pass the test first time. i got 650 points. But when i watched your series i have seen that i missed so much information- God damn books does not work as great as this content! thank you once again sensei
Hi Dean, Great videos! Thankful for your insight. Can we use Azure Image Builder to update and deploy existing custom images? I am confused on how I can do this with our existing custom images with a crazy amount of applications on them. Thanks as always!
Great video, as always! Could you perhaps share a sentence or two on what the best storage location for the source files is that Azure Image Builder needs to install into the image? I have about 30Gb of installation files and currently they are getting copied to the template VM from the same github repo that hosts the AIB customization script. This is not working very reliably (timeouts, etc.) Any advice is welcome!
My first question would be why do you have 30GB of installers? What are you installing? Also consider MSIX AppAttach to off load applications from your image if you can. For anything else azure storage, blob or files if there I would put them depending on how you are installing them. When AIB works its magic a storage account is created and the source files are staged there You could put your files in the same place. Of another azure storage that is open to the internet or secured with a SAS token so AIB can reach it
@@AzureAcademy The short story is that it's all the applications that the customer currently installs into their RDS image, just a lot of Win32 business applications. Thanks. I will go with the secured storage account for my next attempt. MSIX App Attach is definitely the way forward, as far as I'm concerned, but unfortunately it's not an option for me at this moment.
Understood...but these things can happen In parallel. Keep installing apps in the image but also develop the MSIX packages...which can be used in the image or converted to app attach in the future.
Love the series. A little feedback on this one: The Azure Image Builder kept failing for me with a message about the storage account not being publicly visible. But after digging into the Packer logs the actual problem appeared to be a vCPU limit on my Free Trial Suscription of 4vCPU's in the East US region. Unfortunately the trial doesn't allow you to create a support request to increase the limit. Once I built the image in EastUS 2 it worked.
don't forget to make this vid 1000 like guys 😁 great vid Dean! quick silly question. does the new Windows11 with OfficeApps marketplace image, has teams and onedrive for WVD? or should I install the one without officeapps and do the master ways?
As always great video Dean!!..If I am not wrong the future plan is to build the master image with Azure Image builder and MSIX appattach, correct? When can we expect a detailed video on not only creating the master image but also how to mange it every month through that structure? Thanks!
You are correct, AIB Images with MSIX AppAttach is the future. However creating the image is the same process as updating the image. Just rerun the image template. Deploy new VMs...throw away the old
These Videos are brilliant, but the exam objectives this video covers are missing. Is there a list of which vids cover which exam objectives to revise certain topics?
hello, was following this episodes to build the lab, now I think I am lost. In the previous episode 13 i was able follow everything including the assignment section where you ask to build the MSIX appattach and create vhdx. The vhdx file is now uploaded in the shared file. In this video i saw you have an fslogix script, that was not in the previous video. Any tips? :-)
Hi Dean, Great content. Many thanks for this series. However, i have a question that I'm struggling to find answer to. Will I be able to create a host pool in East US using an image from my shared image gallery and if the image resides in West US ? Does the image location matter while using shared image gallery
Yes the image location matters. In the gallery there is a feature called replicas. Add at least 1 replica of your image into East US…wait until replication is finished. Then build a new pool
Da Azure Virtual Desktops support images in Gen 2 version or just Gen 1. Similar question to Windows 365. In documentation to Windows 365 i only see Gen 1 mentioned. Last question is how to show our custom images from shared gallery to be visible in Intune when creating Provisioning policy ?
Hey Dean ! First of all, I want to thank you for all your videos !!! It helps me a lot to improve my skills and confidence in Windows Virtual Desktop and more generally in Azure ! I passed the AZ-140 Exam last week and I can tell you your preparation was very helpful so thanks again ! I believe the certification of this AZ speciality is still in verification because of the "Beta" thing. I don't know if you have any idea of how long it's gonna take to have the formalisation of it to be official ? Thanks Dean !!
AWESOME!!!!!! 👍👍👊😎👏🥳🙌🤝 Thanks for letting me know Dylan! I don’t know about the finalization from Beta to final...but you will be converted from Beta to official once that happens. Congratulations!
The custom template what do you use to deploy it? I don't see image on my services I enabled it using the PS commands from another video. Do I need to use PS to deploy the custom image?
Yes multiple subscriptions are supported, however shared image gallery is limited by Azure AD tenant. So if your office 365 and pay as you go are under different Azure ADs then you will need to follow a process to get it to work Watch this for more info - th-cam.com/video/rBx5mecCL-c/w-d-xo.html
I had issues with Sysprep on Azure with my golden image. If I deployed the image onto a different size machine from the original build (as I built it on a smaller VM SKU) there seems to be an issue with Windows Module Installer hanging on first boot up. I had to run Sysprep from the command line with sysprep /oobe /generalize /mode:VM The /mode:VM stopped Azure fiddling around installing hypervisor drivers and such, and fixed the error. Would it be recommended to use this switch?
oobe and generalize are what I use. The /mode:VM should not be needed. It allows you to take your vhd and use it on the same vm shell...again, not needed in Azure. You should sysprep, then capture as an azure managed image then deploy new VMs from the image.
