    I’m a retired Corporate Pilot and I never went off the end of a runway but this is an excellent system and it certainly will save a lot of damage to an aircraft. Bravo

    Really don’t understand how this is a nightmare. Aircraft going off the end of the runway is very often deadly. Honestly, going off the end of the runway with nothing to help slow you down but a chain link fence and some trees is a pilot’s worst nightmare…

    What they don't tell you is that it is in fact very low density aerated concrete. This has been used for a while to stop runaway aircraft at the end of runways.

    Hello everyone! I believe there is a huge misconception about the Embraer A29 Supertucano being shown as Beechcraft AT6 Wolverine. Okay, they are very similar (which reminds me of the Concorde x Tupolev Tu-144 case), but there is a huge Embraer written on the fuselage that, if observed with a little care, would help the video producers a lot not to make the mistake .

    The light trainers and light ground attack aircrafts, in the end of video, are ALL A29 Super Tucano by EMBRAER, and not AT6 Texan...

    Yeah, I'll join the chorus mentioning that most of the footage of the 'AT-6 Wolverine', was actually A29 Super Tucanos, but I will also point out that the 'Beechcraft AT-6 Texan' is actually a Pilatus PC-9 revamp. I guess they can say it was 'made in America', even if it wasn't designed there.

    When you talked about the AT-6E Wolverine, you were showing the Embraer A-29 Super Tucano in most of the footage. There were only a few shots of the AT-6E Wolverine.

      lol I was thinking the exact same thought. Why is that a pilot's worst nightmare? Hitting a surface that stops your plane safely, doesn't harm your aircraft and is easy to replace. I can think of many other things that's worse than that for a pilot. Like hitting a mountain, perhaps?

    Almost all the images you showed of the AT 6 were actually of the Super Tucano, with some exceptions. Althought very similar, there are some diferences in the nose and the empenage

    While I get that this is not where a pilot would want to end up, I submit there 'worst nightmare' would be going off the end of the runway into structures or a roadway or water.

      There was a system televised in the UK 50 or 60 years ago after a medium sized passenger jet overran the end of the runway into a cabbage field.
      Suddenly runways all over were being given an extension to stop aircraft safely.
      Some probably kept cabbage fields.

    Those turboprop light attack planes shown towards the end were mostly A-29 Super Tucanos...not just Beech Textron AT-6s. The straight wings and bulbous fuselages were the giveaway, versus the polyhedral of the AT-6 Wolverine's wings and more slender fuselage shape.

      They could if it were needed, but it's not really necessary. Those gravel-covered uphill ramps do a good job of stopping runaway trucks already, without the need for additional stopping technology.

    Y'all are talking about EMAS.
    An engineered materials arresting system (EMAS), or arrester bed is a bed of engineered materials built at the end of a runway to reduce the severity of the consequences of a runway excursion.

    How can you talk about the A10 Warthog and not mention that GUN?!! I've seen guys literally jump out of their tanks if they hear that whisperjet sound approaching... 😊

      I wondered about that omission. The A10 is literally an aircraft built around a huge gun. Without that gun, it's just a little bomber... without that BRRRrrrrrppp!!!! That's what the ground pounders love so much about it when things get "sticky" on the battlefield.

      Leaving the tank is about as stupid as they can get. The GAU-8 makes cool sounds, but will rarely if ever penetrate the crew compartment.

      @@bpomowe224 - I checked this out from several sources. "The depleted uranium slug is so dense, it turns tank armor into white-hot shrapnel in the crew compartment." In addition, there are three types of ammo, and " the armor-piercing incendiary (API) rounds present a particularly nightmarish threat to armored vehicle crews." They also mentioned that even a low hit will shred the track components and disable the tank.

      @@gilbertfranklin1537 Check the Military Aviation History video "Dramatic but Overrated - The A-10 Gun GAU-8" to see the US airforce actual tests on real tanks.
      The hitrate was abysmal, and the few direct hits scored usually failed to penetrate the crew compartment of the tanks.

    What is an "Osteo" landing?? I can guess, but I do not like guessing and I never heard the term used before. I know what the medical term is, but how is it used in aviation? They state it a few times, but it is just past the 14:00 mark.
    And by the way, this kind of concrete was invented decades ago. Fortunately things do not go wrong, but it is sure nice to have this kind of stuff if it does.

    While there was a lot of positive information, I failed to see ANYTHING worthy of a bad dream for a pilot let alone a nightmare! Also, in reference to the "A-10" - "Dual Engine?" That sounds like two SIMILAR but SEPERATE power plants. The proper term should be "TWIN" engine as the powerplants are identical

      Just like losing brakes on an 18 wheeler going down a high % grade hill in the mountains and having to use the runaway truck ramp isn't either??
