I agree with the previous comment about this being a bit too furious and emotional for Iago, since he is sort of a cold character, but let me just say I like what you did with this. The performance is different but I still found it effective, and I feel like you did a good job modernizing it without making it seem too weird. It all fit together well and overall I'd say you did it nicely. I'm no expert on Shakespeare or on plays in general, but I've spent the last two years studying Othello in-depth in school and I pretty much know this particular play inside out, so I'm always fascinated to see different interpretations of the characters. This is a pretty good Iago, in my opinion. Nice job!
The act is certainly amazing and it suits the Iago in my mind so much! This Iago reminds me of Moriarty in BBC Sherlock, when he was in 221B for "revenge". He is using an apple too and he is laughing with a twisted face. I linked these two character together when I see this video. Really great work!
Dude, this is nothing short of perfect! You capture the primal vices that define Iago perfectly and make for such a beautifully chilling scene! I'm not even sure if I've even seen anyone portray Iago better! Great job, man! Really, I'm blown away here!
I have a drama school audition in a month's time; I'm doing this monologue for my classical piece and I'm taking so much inspiration from your performance. It's perfect! Thank you for uploading this.
AWESOME WORK, from one actor to another. Like another poster commented, this performance instantly made me think of Andrew Scott's brilliant performance as Moriarty in Sherlock. Awesome voice work too. Everything was justified in this performance and executed well. Great work!
Thanks Justin! Always appreciate hearing from other actors. I really need to see this Moriarty performance! Have you got any work up? Would love to see!
+Yarrow Wolf This is a small section of a play that I condensed into a stand alone piece. If it were the whole play I would want to have a longer character arc, build it up slowly. I'd love the opportunity!
This is definitely a good performance, but I'd deem it too emotionally-charged for Iago. The Moor's ensign is cold-blooded as opposed to seething, a malignant narcissist who takes sadistic glee in his deviltry (despite his ego being greatly offended by Othello's actions). Your Iago seems as if he's reached the boiling point, nowhere near coldness, as if he is truly jealous of Othello in regard to Emilia. But if you read the Bard closely, you see that Iago cares not a whit about his wife. His perceived slight involves his pride, and Emilia is merely an extension of that. He is amoral egoism personified, not some furious cuckold. Anyway, as I said, I like your performance; I just feel that it's a divergence from what is told in the play. If you haven't already seen it, check out Kenneth Branagh's portrayal of Iago. His performance is the one I'd consider most faithful to a CLOSE reading of the play.
Thank you for taking the time to write such an in depth comment! :) I appreciate what you are saying regarding his level of anger. I have indeed seen Branagh's Iago, it is fantastic and a huge inspiration for me. It is one of the reasons I chose this particular piece, I wanted to do something different with it though. Take it away from the text as it were, I would do it differently if I were to do it again now, that's for sure but it was fun taking him to those extremes. :)
I agree with Robert, it was totally his own perception of the character. A lot can be said about the visual masterpiece this truly is as well. fantastic
I agree. Iago seems to relish in cassios good looks and suave a lot. Enough to use him in a way and I wonder if Iago is almost attracted to him. I think iago also looks down upon othello and thinks the latter’s brutishness is a sign that he’s not smart
@@mauriciokrebs2913 No, he's obviously saying that this performance is TOO emotionally-charged. Also, he clearly made the distinction that Iago is cold as opposed to hot, so your saying that "his emotions put everything in motion" totally misses the point.
I had to analyse and compare your adaptation of Iago's soliloquy with the one in the play, for the GCSE controlled assessment, so every single detail had to be mentioned and explained in depth and the actual work you've put into this magnificent piece of work is astounding and honored. By the way, that Cassio's photo is truly hilarious, LOVE IT
Hi! Thank you, I'm really glad you enjoyed it, I hope it helped you in your exam. We plan on coming to schools to talk to students such as yourself about shakespeare and how he perceived in our generation. What school do you go to? Good luck with your exams!
Wow... this was amazing thank you for inspiration im working on the same thing for a task on my school here in norway and now thanks to you I know how to play it! thank you so much!!! you are awesome :D!
Setting any of Shakespeare's works in present day is a tricky business and so easy to fail at spectacularly... this interpretation is a thing of beauty. I am planning to possibly use this piece for an audition (I am female but figure this would shake things up and perhaps help me stand out a bit.) The audition is for Macbeth and I need something other than from the actual play. I am gunning for Lady M. and thought this piece might help me convey the darkness and passion she requires. (curious as to your opinion of the idea...?) Anyway, I stumbled upon this as I searched for some inspiration; you do not disappoint. :-)
Hi Margaret, thanks for your comment, I'm touched you think so highly of my interpretation. I think taking Iago as a female character is a great idea, there is room for so much variation and ideas in the text. I really enjoy it when people can challenge pre conceived ideas of character, which this totally would. In knew writing it's always fun to see both genders play a part because each sex will undoubtedly put a different spin on different aspects of the character. Also, if you enjoyed this please take a look at my more recent Shakespeare adaptation, "Shrew'd", based on "The Taming of the Shrew". Very best of luck with your audition!
I'm actually performing as Iago in my next production, though cross dressing instead of changing the character's gender. So many ways to interpret him!
Very different interpretation from the norm, but I enjoyed it a lot. Iago is generally viewed as cold and calculated, but your performance was as if the layers of his character had been peeled back already, and exposed the truly unstable insecurities that define his actions.
Wow, outstanding work! Chillingly convincing portrayal of Shakespeare's best villain. Hope you don't mind if I take some inspiration from this for my grade 8 LAMDA exam!
Excellent performance, I liked very much. You really got deep in to the character. Shakespeare surpasses the time and his works prevail through years and centuries. I was wondering if it were possible to get a copy without music and rescoring for didactical purposes? I am a composer and taking currently a graduate diploma at the Film Scoring of Academy of Europe!
Thank you very much - glad you enjoyed it! I'm not planning on doing any at the moment but I may do. The next Shakespeare bill will be an adaptation of Hamlet, so watch this space!
Hi, thanks for you kind words! I did a scene from Taming of the shrew as well which can be seen on my channel. Please take a look! Hope you find it helpful and enjoyable! Good luck with your studies
Hi Mimi. Thanks, glad you liked it! If I can help I will, what piece are you doing? Don't freak out, the first thing I was told was to make sense of it in your own head. Translate it all into your own words as if you are saying it to your friends. That helped me anyway. If you understand it the meaning comes across far easier. Also, never be afraid to ask for help - the director I work with knows the text v well, so I was able to clarify any lines I wasn't sure on. Also, that aside - it helps to have an outside eye to direct you. Can't recommend that enough. Hope this helps!
Thanks sooooo much omfg After watching that I literally feel like I'm talking to a celeb!! You should seriously consider being a professional actor * if you're already not* Not just cause you're a beautiful soul but because I got GOOSEBUMPS watching it!! I just had to say that haaa
Mimi The Mc No problem at all, glad to be able to help! :) Thank you - I am aiming in that direction, just got to keep working on bettering myself! Seriously though - no need to freak out. Take it very slowly until you know exactly what it is you are saying and keep what you are doing very simple too, you don't have to do much with this speech, the words are very powerful. Good luck! :)
***** I understand. Anyways , It's a great work you've done in the video. I myself is going to do a soliloquy in a competition and this work inspires me a lot. Thanks Man!
wow iago really is evil... keeping a knife and chopping board handy in his living room! Especially evil that he starts out by cutting up the apple with the knife until he gives up and takes a big ol chomp out of it instead. Mood.
Amazing performance! The beginning scene sent chills down my spine...
Awesome! You Perform Brilliantly Iago. My Favorite William Shakespeare's Play Antagonist.
My favorite is Cornelius from hamlet……….🫢
Awesome. I was Iago in a high school play. I put mad effort in knowing his lines. Iago is unique.
This was an amazing iago monologue, absolutley outstanding, great job!

Thank you! I admire him as an actor although I haven't seen that episode myself. I'm glad you enjoyed my portrayal of Iago, he's a lot of fun to play!
I am currently reading Othello and Iago is one of the most amazing portrayed character.
Wow, this is what I call living the part. Thanks a lot, a pleasure to watch.
WOW. This is absolutely OUTSTANDING! One of the best Iagos I have seen. Amazing work, thank you for sharing your talent!
Thank you very much, please feel free to check out my other films and self tapes. :) Have a great day
agreed.
OMG, this gave me chills! Outstanding work!

Neil Main glad I was able to help! Break a leg
It's Act One Scene Three. Glad you like it but I'm sorry the music isn't mine to give out.

Great stuff. The opening moves of the sociopath. Apple a nice touch with Iago rotten 'to the core' - good crunchy one, too! Really enjoyed. Thanks.
This made me want to see the full play with you as Iago. Great performance!
Thank you so much, I would love to play him in the whole play. I'd do it differently if it was the whole play though!
***** Out of curiosity, what would you do differently?
+Yarrow Wolf This is a small section of a play that I condensed into a stand alone piece. If it were the whole play I would want to have a longer character arc, build it up slowly. I'd love the opportunity!
good! one of the best performances i've seen
I'll show this to my Drama students
Thank you for your comments everyone. So pleased it is being received well and very flattered receiving such fantastic comments!
Six years later I'm here looking for inspiration for a Iago performance. Great work dude, I really liked what you did.
I can't stop watching this it's amazing
Watched this a few times now. This is superb. Top draw
Man, this has got to be the most chilling Iago I've ever seen. Great work man!

This is perfect, you are a very talented man. Have you filmed more scenes ? I'm studying shakespeare at school in Argentina comparing soliloquies.

It was written for the short, sorry
no worries thx anyway
Very very convincing.
Me: Trying to Do a Monoact for An Assignment...
Me after viewing his Spectacular Acting: Aight I Give up,I don't want marks 😂
Very nice 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Loved the part where you chopped the apple I was like 😧 Apple!! Fiona Apple reference??? 🤔
Oh this is ace!
Yes
wow iago really is evil... keeping a knife and chopping board handy in his living room! Especially evil that he starts out by cutting up the apple with the knife until he gives up and takes a big ol chomp out of it instead. Mood.
Dude what are you upto nowadays?
Have you acted in any movies?
Wow!!!
Uh acted so well..👍
#chilling 👍👍👍👍👍
It's good but you did just copy. That is a skill in itself.
Personally i think Iago has some kind of mental problem
Too handsome :-\ :-[
Don't know if this is a negative thing or not but thank you for watching!
Baddie!!!
yo shawty
Way too much over-acting it’s shakespeare but damn, you’re playing the idea of a character. Not a single honest moment the whole thing.
What do you mean?
His acting was great.
better than branagh
Wow, thanks very much. His version was my inspiration behind the piece, so that means a lot.
I meant it dude! You are talented!
Crap play but good acting
