Hi Tom. Very true! I (Laurence) enjoy doing maintenance and repairs. The only thing that scared about this is that I just hadn’t considered this possibility. Luckily I checked the water heater for leaks or I never would have found this. It has taught me that I need to check all the hidden places for potential issues. 👍👍
I replaced my leaky original B&B 571 anti-siphon valve with a 90 degree plastic elbow so I wouldn't have the problem again. There is a backflow preventer built into the black tank hose connector and I only have my dedicated flushing hose connected to the rv when I'm ready to flush. You can also get a backflow preventer that screws onto the end of your hose or the spigot. Most rv parks have one permanently attached to their spigots.
Good info. We keep a close eye on this now and apparently they fail quite often. When it fails again, we will replace with something like you suggested
Oh Sir Laurence you have so outdone yourself on this one! Displaying sleuthing prowess that even the likes of DCI Jane Tennison would have to applaud! Thankfully it was the BT Flush and not the BT DRAIN LINE that was infiltrating the ❤️Love Shack❤️ 🤣. Good Job 👏
Yes, I remember your comparison to the Camping World and will up grade the back flow preventer. I did find another leak and had to replace the "O" on the inlet side of the water pump. Just discovered your site and enjoying the videos. Thanks. Dan
Nice job on the repair. I was a little worried for you with all the “easy peasy” comments but thankfully it worked for you. I never heard addidas pronounced that way. It makes no difference to me which way it is said.
I been having this mysterious leak off and on , under the kitchen sink of my 2018 pioneer travel trailer! But could never find where it’s coming from ! Now you’ve possibly gave me an idea that might be my issue! Thank you for the video! Stay safe out there and God Bless!
Hi Tim! Of course. Here ya go: Quick Release hose connectors: amzn.to/3fUqFwm There are many different types, but the quality can vary. We have found these ones to be fantastic! We now stay away from the plastic ones.
Nice bit of troubleshooting! And it is Adi-Dass (only way I could think to put it with the correct pronunciation) as it was founded by Adi Dassler (German guy). His real name was Adolf Dassler, but was known as Adi. I learnt this in A level German 😊👍🏻 Oh, and I think I’ve told you this 100 times too! 🤣🤣
Innnnnnnteressstttiinnnggggg! I think you have! That’s one of the best things about having a bad memory! I get to find out interesting facts over and over again and it’s just as exciting each time!
Honestly….. we didn’t either! Hopefully you won’t ever have an issue, but after researching, we found a bunch of people have had serious water damage from it.
Sure enough I find i in the general schematics. They won't release the specific model specs of my particular model. Makes me figure it out and never forget it solutions.
I recall you saying that. Next time I’m in Lowe’s, I might pick one up as a spare. I’m sure there must be another back flow preventer somewhere else in the rig too.
@@Mudford63 Unless you have two black tanks -- mine were both inside wall under entertainment center coming up just above water tank (5th wheel) - had to tear wall out to find it - seems like I called Forest River to get a general idea where to look - I put an access panel in wall - oddly enough, was told I really did not need one, could just bypass - I didn't but odd there would be one if not needed

You got lucky. We had a similar problem in our old camper. Unfortunately it was burst line in the wall. The vanity was in line with the kitchen sink on the other side of the wall. Had to take out the vanity and reach through the wall because I couldn't access it through the kitchen sink side, but had to cut it and reconnect it behind the sink and the vanity. Good thing there wasn't anyone around to listen to the conversation I was having with the pipe. Bloody Wanker!
oh man. good point. I was annoyed it was behind the shower controls, but I guess I should be happy that it wasn't somewhere else that i couldn't get to. So, from this point of view, good thinking Grand Design! Thank you!
I just watched your video and it answered my question. But, I want to be sure that was the source of the leak. By the way, I could listen to you Brits all day long. Thanks from Arizona, USA. Dan
Hey Dan! For us, it was 100% the source of the leak and apparently, this is a common thing to fail. If it fails again, I would upgrade to a better version
Yeah, the location of ours is a bit of a pain. Dustin said his was really simple to get to. Also that he bought a brass replacement. I'll be buying a brass one and keeping it as a spare.
Another great video, do you suppose it froze over the winter, which caused the leak? Another quick question...is there RV anti freeze in the flush line during winterization? Around here it is Nike...not Nikie..😃😃.....nice bling from snap pads as well... See y'all next week.
Hey Rob! I'm, not sure about it freezing. I suspected that was the case initially, but the height of the valve and the way it works suggests that there wouldn't be any water up there. Apparently these fail quite often for no reason at all. I will be buying a brass one as a spare to carry around. I have never used RV antifreeze for the blacktank flush, so maybe i should have. See you next week 👍 Take care!
Nicely done. This is great intel for me since I own the exact same model. I am a little perplexed as to why you winterize your RV since you guys live in Florida now? We are in West Palm Beach and have never felt the need to winterize though I do depressurize/empty the water system and empty the hot water heater if I know we aren't going out for awhile.
Hi Felixx 👋 So we actually had to winterize back in January for a short period before we moved from Virginia to Florida. We did such a bad job that we had a bunch of issues (Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/rjsfn1fmTvg/w-d-xo.html). The black tank flush was one of those issues that we didn't fix immediately as it was intermittent and wasn't a priority.
Hey Dan, yes, we call it Nikeee now. As we are guests in the US, we have no say on the US political debates, so we prefer to just stay neutral. We're just happy that you allow us to live in your country. Until we are granted citizenship and can vote, we'll let you guys discuss :)
So is it Nike or Nik-eeeeee? 😁
Leaks are bad news. Glad to see you got it fixed and all is well. Well done.
Hey guys! Yup, so glad I thought to check the water heater after our leaks in Tampa! Such an easy job…. I expected it to be much harder than it was
While repairs are annoying, its all part of owning a camper. Thanks for sharing this.
