    South Park: The Stick of Truth. It's funny, so it will keep you entertained. It's combat system is simple, but deep enough to feel satisfying. It's a good, casual RPG that's accessible to new RPG players and entertaining for veterans.

      I cannot recommend this high enough! The game literally IS a season of south park episodes it's not like the show it IS the show... But on top of that the RPG elements are absolutely amazing and the best part is you can block 100% of all the enemies moves to take like 10% of their damage... That's right... Every single one.... this is so much different than say chrono trigger where some enemies can take you from 999hp to 1hp in one move! So I freaken love the stick of truth and when the fractured but whole comes out I will beat it 3x over just like I did with the current one.

      FF7 has the same issue as Ocarina of Time and Mario 64. They revolutionized their genres by setting the standards, and inventing most of the mechanics, that took them into 3d.
      However, if you didn't play them at the time... well now they kinda look like blocky outdated crap.

    • @rocker11281
      @rocker11281 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally agree. It is just terrible to people who played lots of more complex and mature RPGs before. As a kid and nearly a total newbie to RPGs (only played "Ys" on the Master System for a few hours before) it totally got me into the genre. So much I rented a imported copy of Final Fantasy II (US) from the local video library and bought a NTSC-transformator. There wasn't a lot of RPGs to choose from in Germany these days. Sweet memories of hunting...

    Mass Effect 2 is an amazing RPG. I remember when I first played it on PC back in 2010. I was immediately blown away by how impressive the game was. I enjoyed it so much that I ended up playing it a second time on the PS3. The numerous planets that you visit are unique and diverse. The story is very well done. The voice acting is top notch. The choices and decisions that you make greatly impact the story. The characters are worth caring about. The combat is greatly improved upon when compared to the original Mass Effect. The campaign took me around 35 hours to beat. On top of that, the game came with 3 DLC missions which expanded the story. Thanks MetalJesusRocks & Kelsey. Keep it up!

    Honestly to me the best recommendations for a entry level rpg to me are Super Mario Rpg, Paper Mario 1 and 2, Final Fantasy 9, Pokemon any of the main games, and lastly one that isn't maybe too entry level friendly, but that I adore Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic.

      KOTR is a great, GREAT rpg and especially so if you happen to enjoy the vast, long running storylines that the Star Wars universe is known to be famous for. Even though it's a pretty old game with a more "classic" style of rpg gameplay; KOTR has such an engrossing story that I never really had any issues with the game mechanics at all. Hu Flung Dung it was my first RPG, still great and not too long or complicated. Really any of the DQ/DW games would be great starters since they don't delve into the more complicated crafting/class/training systems that other series have done. I'm growing tired of the other stuff and am more interested in the more meat and potato RPGs like DQ or the FF series up to FF9. Chrono Trigger is probably the best suggestion because it is o e of the GOAT RPGs and is simple enough for a beginner, but a great enough story for someone who's been playing RPGs for decades.

    • @aragorn100000
      @aragorn100000 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      But DQ2 will turn you off from the series forever haha. I feel like both FF1 (best version: GBA) and DQ1 (best version: Super Famicom translated with english names) were great games, but then it got soooo clunky with FF2 and DQ2. They may have introduced new super innovative gameplay mechanics, but they were both a pain to play. I would skip them!!

That game is pure evil, for example it's entirely possible to get instantly killed leaving the starting area of the first dungeon as you have a ghost stalking you in real time and it hones in on your location so you take to long figuring out how to get out of the first room he will end up being right by the door to the starting area killing you as soon as you step out. Oh and let's not forget level three of the dungeon being a complete literal minefield, the cryptic puzzles with even more cryptic clues like find the egrest which literally just means find the exit. Great video! Not sure why I am just seeing this now 🤔?Though if someone is just checking out RPGs for the first time, I think choosing one really depends on what style of RPG that the individual is interested in and what hardware they have. I would personally recommend starting out with Allied General from PS1 and Windows 95 which, was a successor to Panzer General for turn based style games and Ultimate Alliance for real time game play. Though my all time favor its are Shadow of Mordor, and Dragons Crown, for home console, and project Xzone on 3DS.

    I know one of my first RPG's was Sierra's Police Quest and then later Hero's Quest (later renamed Quest For Glory Collection). Hero's Quest especially got me hooked on RPG's. I loved the story in it and then different elements, like sneaking around town, along with the fighting system being very fun. It was recently brought out again on Steam with updated graphics.

    You guys committed the unholy sin of the Mass Effect franchise is not only that you haven't played it yet but to me the sin is that you're playing Mass Effect 2 instead as a starter and because yes ME2 is fantastic game but in order to play ME2 you have to play ME1 first so you can fully start your quest to save the galaxy and learn about the characters from the beginning romance included. Although ME1 is not a perfect game while still being an incredible game but trust me it's rewarding while finishing the game and really worth the anticipation of playing ME2 and then ME3 if you're okay with the ending depending of who you are but either way the trilogy is incredible if you haven't played it play ME1 first.

    • @MetalJesusRocks
      @MetalJesusRocks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I played and beat ME1 when it came out. Great story and characters...but the combat mechanics are very clunky by today's standards. Also those driving sections mostly SUCKED. My wife started on ME2 and had no need to go back to play ME1 because of all the backstory built into the game.

      @Dev1lallday 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would agree, that from the mechanic ME2 is superior, bit still the story you get to expericne, combined by the 2 games is the best one ever achieved in an rpg!

    • @22martinez1
      @22martinez1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the mechanics of ME1 aren't perfect by today's standards but you do get used to it very quickly and driving the Mako I didn't mind and I know it's not perfect but you really do get used to it along with the pacing even know it's slow why did I know this because I've played it multiple times and it gets a little better when you're all leveled up to level 60 and now you're ready to play ME2 so grinding doesn't become a chore if you really love ME1 like me.

    It wasn't out when this video was made but I would absolutely recommend MIITOPIA for the 3DS as a beginner RPG. It has a slick turn-based battle system that both pays tribute to and massively overhauls the traditional turn-based RPG battle, and it has relationship mechanics too so your Miis can become friends both in and out of battle. Up to ten fully customizable characters (if you can make a Mii of them, they can be in the game), a ton of fun classes, and on top of it all it's hilarious. It's not just a must-play RPG, it is a reason to pick up the 3DS period.

Kind of like a more dialogue heavy Zelda game, but it opens the door for people who want to take active roles in the combat and those looking for a gateway into JRPG's. To earn a platinum trophy on the recent remaster requires some grinding, but if you're just looking to complete the story the grind is minimal.
