🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 32:
यदृच्छया चोपपन्नं स्वर्गद्वारमपावृतम् |
सुखिन: क्षत्रिया: पार्थ लभन्ते युद्धमीदृशम् || 32||
yadṛichchhayā chopapannaṁ swarga-dvāram apāvṛitam
sukhinaḥ kṣhatriyāḥ pārtha labhante yuddham īdṛiśham
🪔An open gateway to heaven has, by a happy chance, offered itself to you. O Arjuna! For, fortunate Ksatriyas alone gain an occasion to wage a war like this.
🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 33:
अथ चेतत्त्वमिमं धर्म्यं संग्रामं न करिष्यसि |
तत: स्वधर्मं कीर्तिं च हित्वा पापमवाप्स्यसि || 33||
atha chet tvam imaṁ dharmyaṁ saṅgrāmaṁ na kariṣhyasi
tataḥ sva-dharmaṁ kīrtiṁ cha hitvā pāpam avāpsyasi
🪔On the other hand, if you refuse to fight this righteous war, sacrificing both the law of your life and renown, you will incur sin.
🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 34:
अकीर्तिं चापि भूतानि
कथयिष्यन्ति तेऽव्ययाम् |
सम्भावितस्य चाकीर्ति
र्मरणादतिरिच्यते || 34||
akīrtiṁ chāpi bhūtāni
kathayiṣhyanti te ’vyayām
sambhāvitasya chākīrtir
maraṇād atirichyate
🪔All will recount your everlasting infamy! For one honored, infamy is worse than death.
🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 35:
भयाद्रणादुपरतं मंस्यन्ते त्वां महारथा: |
येषां च त्वं बहुमतो भूत्वा यास्यसि लाघवम् || 35||
bhayād raṇād uparataṁ mansyante tvāṁ mahā-rathāḥ
yeṣhāṁ cha tvaṁ bahu-mato bhūtvā yāsyasi lāghavam
🪔Great heroes will deem that out of fear you withdrew from battle. You will fall in the esteem of those very heroes who have honored you (so far).
🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 36:
अवाच्यवादांश्च बहून्वदिष्यन्ति तवाहिता: |
निन्दन्तस्तव सामर्थ्यं ततो दु:खतरं नु किम् || 36||
avāchya-vādānśh cha bahūn vadiṣhyanti tavāhitāḥ
nindantastava sāmarthyaṁ tato duḥkhataraṁ nu kim
🪔Your foes will hurl many unmentionable insults at you - foes bent on downgrading your competence. What can be more painful than that?
🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 37:
हतो वा प्राप्स्यसि स्वर्गं जित्वा वा भोक्ष्यसे महीम् |
तस्मादुत्तिष्ठ कौन्तेय युद्धाय कृतनिश्चय: || 37||
hato vā prāpsyasi swargaṁ jitvā vā bhokṣhyase mahīm
tasmād uttiṣhṭha kaunteya yuddhāya kṛita-niśhchayaḥ
🪔Getting slain, you will gain heaven; victorious, you will enjoy this world. Therefore, O son of Kunti! stand up, determined to fight.

सुखदु:खे समे कृत्वा लाभालाभौ जयाजयौ |
ततो युद्धाय युज्यस्व नैवं पापमवाप्स्यसि || 38||
sukha-duḥkhe same kṛitvā lābhālābhau jayājayau
tato yuddhāya yujyasva naivaṁ pāpam avāpsyasi
🪔Looking with an equal eye on pleasure and pain, gain and loss, victory and defeat, strive to fight; thus will you incur no sin.

The Mahabharat battle can also be studied as occurring in our self too. The kaurava and pandava are thoughts that we fight in our minds, the narayani sena ( Krishna’s army) and Shri Krishna are the dharma or attitude correction.

Swami you make living in an ashram sound like a military boot camp, i rather stay solo monk
Well it is really kinda military camp only.
Ramkrishna Mission is literally strict.
Even the selection rate to become monl and wear gerua there is 20%
Many confident man start there journey but they left before the completion of 9 years. only 20% remains.
Those who left are certainly ahead of us in terms of spirituality may be next life they will live as monk.

Swami tried to give such a long explanation justifying krishna encouraging war... but the point is so simple... Duryodhana was a bad ruler... Krishna and Pandavas tried in different ways to change his mind.... no change... Pandavas tried to go away if they r given small lands of their own... Krishna tried to help... all peace talks failed... and only then the situation was setup for war... if Kauravas aren't killed, the people of the kingdom would suffer for long long time... so death of few suffering-imposers is better than the suffering of huge number of innocent people.
Duryodhana is our own depiction and so is arjuna , the clouds of ignorance and maya make our ego blinded lije duryodhana and the willingness to understand leads to path of arjuna, we continuously shift between the two in our day to day life.
@@akb3656 Agree... but I wrote in the context of "why krishna encourages arjuna to participate in war even after arjuna decides not to"... u r talking about personality traits (different context).
If a fighter like arjuna can forget all this than what you expect from normal beings not everyone is blessed like you with a brilliant mind

About brilliant mind :
Yeah, a small % of people are born with super sharp intellect. If we are not that, can't do anything but to ignore that aspect. Yet, everything needs practice, including the knack of thinking. Jiddu Krishnamurti said in a talk that those who don't think a lot will have the highest probability to hit alzheimer's diseases during old age because their dead brain cells wouldn't be regularly replaced with healthy ones due to lack of use. So, the more we think the more we (1) overcome laziness to think (2) know the knack of thinking (3) understand the obstacles to thinking, like random unwanted thoughts in a given situation (apart from laziness) (4) impact of excess food intake or less sleep on thinking (5) value of excess knowledge in memory (gained through learning and experiences), and so on.
