Disicples 2 is one of my all time favorite games. So sad that never got a spritiual successor to it.
Yeah, I feel the same. I'm still going to check out Liberation, but I have little hope for it being any good.

@@paulrukavishnikov5171 Liberation feels like someone's edgy idea of what a "dark fantasty" setting is supposed to be. It's "dark" and "gritty" and "sexual" in an over the top fashion, with art style that doesn't differ much from modern shiny high fantasy beyond its color scheme. Disciples 2, on the other hand, felt dirty but naturalistic, just listen to some of the soundtracks, you can hear flies in the ambience, you feel like it's the actual middle ages but with fantasy elements applied to it, the common folk have filth on their faces, there's mud and battlefields are lined with bones, it all comes together, but it's not over the top

@@KeyleeTamirian It took way too much flak. Excellent OST. First and third games were decent (and very confusing why there was so many D3 versions). Resurrection was a unplayable mess but the others were such that it captured the old spirit well at some point.
And then, a wild Disciples: Liberation appeared xD

16:00 :D Mages miss because of special hidden mechanic. Accuracy when resolving a hit is lowered by 10% on each additional enemy.
So if you have 80% acc and attack 6 ppl chance will be: 80%, 70%, 60%, 50%, 40%, 30%. You will normally miss at least 2 targets.
That's interesting, I never dug that deep. How did you find out about this?

It affects only heroes.
This is the reason a mage hero can miss while having 100% accuracy. :)

D3 is still quite different from the HOMM games. The combat looks similar because of unit movement and grid system, but it feels much different from HOMM when you actually play it. So I wouldn't say it's similar to HOMM. Aesthetically it's also still very much Disciples.
This is probably the most underrated video on the entire website of TH-cam, i am not even kidding. the fact you dont have more subs is a crime.

I actually enjoyed D3. Particulary the units design. Not much else, but it was enough for me.
Indeed, i love the units design, is a pity that the game take more hits in reincarnation, in the stability part, but well is sad, like a guy compare it with the new kings bounty 2 , why they make it like that

My aunt introduced me to Disciples 2 a good decade ago and it instantly became my favourite game and still is. I still return to play it for a good month every year. Great video by the way, I was looking for a video of someone reviewing/talking about the game cause I was interested in what other people think of it and I'm beyond glad cause of how good this video is. Additionally, the jokes are hilarious the first time and pretty funny the second time watching the video.
Disciples 3 Reincarnation is actually very good. It fixed the issues of Disciples 3.

Disciples 3 is a game of my childhood, you know how it pains that it was never completed? And that everyone keeps trashing on it? But i love Disciples 3, it's one of my favorite games.

Needed this review, everything said here is exactly how I felt about the series. D2 Will forever be a fave game to me.
I absolutely loved disciples 2 as a child, my Lithuanian step mom had her Russian relative send me a bootleg copy of the gold edition so I had all the expansions. I also played a bit of the original, didn't get very far into it though. I never knew there was a third game. That's probably for the better, because it may have ruined my image of the games in my mind.
Disciples: Liberation comming Q4 2021, oh boy am I afraid of that one. Great in-depth analysis of one of my favourite series ever.

Oh boy, them years when we played Disciples 2 hotseat, literally half the school bought it, and we had enough time and patience to play it endlessly without speeding up the battle or turn speed. One of my most treasured games.
Early Disciples 3 looked fantastic, but as far as i know they consumed all the budget halfway thru, half the devs fked off real quick, and the remaining ones remade the game for release date ikea style with missing content, stats, features, hero progression, half the game, and even the story. The company Akella went bankrupt, idk which group picked up and tried fixing the game afterwards, they did a decent job fixing a pile of turd so it was at least slightly reminiscent of the game they teased us in the trailers. We still had awesome times with it, but eventually the disappointment and missing features were too much to bear, and we moved on.
the new disciples liberation is like kings bounty, everything is changed from units to style.
Indeed, ad worst, then they take that game and destroy it even more, i play disciples 3 first and was not bad, i play the original, and it have some problems but was passable, the problem with resurrecitons, is that, it fix some problems but destroy other stuff, in disciples 3, in the first version, yes you have tree facctions and enemies do not respond, but the game works, the game is stable, the tactical map, in battle was hughe, and units were amaizing.
In resurrection, they add the unded and enemies respawn, but now, tactical maps, are smaller, much, much smallers, archers were nerf, so much, that the elves suffer a lot, but the worst part, os the game performance, crashes, constant crashes, that make the game so frustrating, is sad

Wow this popped up in my feed. Just "finally" beat D2 for the years i owned it and yes D2 feels like the best of the lot. I kinda wish for a Disciples like game to come out though.
Ah, so TH-cam's algorithm does work after all! I feel you, D2 deserves a proper remake where they squash the majority of bugs and iron out some of the other minor issues. I doubt we'll see brand new title in the spirit of D2 though.

It's so sad what happened to disciples 2. But it seems the community is still strong in Eastern Europe. I'm developing a game inspired by disciples called BattleTales. And though currently is a board game with miniatures, there's also an online version we use for testing. If you'd like to try it let me know 👍

Did you think this serie couldn't have possibly fallen any lower? A reboot was recently announced, called Disciples: Liberation. It is now mainly a console title with mobile game like artstyle. Developer says they were inspired mostly by Dis3 when designing things. I wish I was joking. Please make a video where you tear it to shreds in order to restore the balance of force.

The most fun to play with it and i have a lot of good thiefs that torment enemy races.For exemple i assasinate a DRAGON with thief (its 10% chance to do it if someone wonders), stealing money and spells of enemy capitals,and a lot more stuff........ and once faild to explore a ruin(90% chance),i was so confused wtf happened.Overall 90% at times i pick ea- i mean guildmaster to play with.
I wouldn't say good game gone Garbage I've beaten all 4 Disciples games and I love each of em..Though Disciples 2 is my Favorite.

i played both disciples 2 and disciples 3 , resurrection for years, and my favourite was d3 res.
the problems i have encountered with resurrection, at release, the undead campaign was bugged and you couldn't progress if you played it in harder dfficulties, game had fewer maps to play on multiplayer-hotseat, didn't have the mountain clans as a race, some units were just a burden to you if you tried to use them: had not been balanced properly.
but the battle system was , better than what ive seen in homm 5, with the existance of cover, made it much more strategic .
with the release of reincarnation, i played the game , but the changes made in balancing and battle system made me not play the game more than a few hours. the ranged units having variety ranges and areas made sense, but the rest was just a disappointment in my opinion.
I spent hundreds of hours playing and modding d3: resurrection, trying to balance the game as i thought would be perfect:
-cover system stays
-applied the changes to the ranged units in reincarnation to resurrection
-increased scaling , locking a unit from transforming actually is viable if you dont want to spend any more resources to it,
-rebalanced the skill trees on units
made the thief lord usable, gave it comparable but lower stats and party size, and converted most of its skills to either passives or global, not allowing it to kill itself on a dice roll.
After spending o much time perfecting the balance in the game from what i think is suits me the best, this is still the most important thing i can say:
---No matter what you do , not enough maps,not much to do , gets boring after a short while. even if the game has perfect balance , it is just barren.
Could have been great , but ah, it is bad.

also i noticed that you played with horn of incubus and didnt use a mage leader, that was the most fun strat i had back in the days
This year should be new Diciples game. They wake up the series from its slumber but we´ll see if as a halloween decoration or honorable ressurected warrior.
I did not expect to see a new Disciples game. Realistically, I can already tell what it will be from the screen shots alone and it's not looking good

I hope strategy first creates disciples 4, disciples 1 and 2 are such great games. We need a disciples 2 style game but with more units and such for disciples 4. Strategy first loved disciples 2 and it's clear. They should make disciples 4

Thieves are far not that useless. They are golden for expensive items and spells from shops. Instead of wasting 1000 gold for a mega spell you can spend just 200 for a single thief with freaking 60% chance of success and if failed just buying another one. It almost never require more than 3, no save-load needed
also thieves are great for dueling low level heroes and some rod makers

Me being Polish: I wish I could say we Slavs dont breave with Heroes 3... but then I remember this was mine first game that I played in age of 4.

I have watched this video, probably, a dozen times. It is so much fun! Now... I know we're supposed to agree that Disciples 3 sucks but... after trying Disciples: Liberation, even Disciples 3 is forgivable (although I never managed to go beyond the tutorial mission).
I think disciples 3 is an alright game. Not good but definitely not as bad as you make it out to be. The upgraded visuals and the 3D engine make it somewhat playable nowadays as opposed to previous titles and the heroes like combat is an improvement to me personally.
I think the only problem people have with this game is it being called disciples.
Also, didn’t really enjoy the casual racism, there are better ways to joke about russia/russians than what you did in the video.

I played Sacred Lands as a kid in early 2000's than I switched to Disciples 2 and play it on and of to this day. But I was always reluctant to try D3, why? For all the reasons in the video. But few days ago I finally bought it to see this mess first hand. But it was wierd, all the graphics looked nice and I must say that art still stays on a high level. The progression was wierded out and all the statistics were increased to riddiculus levels. But for me Disciples 3 is a good game, I'd still prefere to compare it to games like FF Tactics and X-Com with Disciples spin on it, more than treat it as full Dosciples sequel, but I just cannot hate this game as much as I think I should. Story is ok at best but everything is tarnished by narration, holy shit I wouldn't belive that there was any direction at all. For me D3 is more like a solid 6/10 but all the bugs pull it to 5 or 4/10. Still worth buying on sell.
Huh, I on the other hand just genuinely could not get into it. Every minute I spent playing it felt like torture to me. Like you said, it's not really a Disciples game so maybe that's why. I was always drawn to the way D1 and 2 handled combat and such.
Some people loved Heroes M&M and some like myself, Disciples 2. I've played the game to the point where i begun using map/scenario editor to shape my own stories. After all the joy i've got from Disciples 2, Disciples 3 + all the packs could't even managed keep up with it's older brother. Artwork trashed. Music trashed. Gothic atmosphere trashed. Game was so buggy. I was asking myself, how can a studio fuckup a game this much and downgrade it to the point to capture only my hate ?
That's what happens when a beloved series gets pawned off for a quick cash grab to people who masturbate to HoMM5

You're right about Disciples 3, but I hate the way you approached it. Usually a reviewer would play all versions of the game and voice their own opinions. You basically decided to skip the first two versions of it and make conclusions about them based on other reviews. Then only play the third version, assuming it somehow summarizes the first two, based on just its description? The fact is you're clearly missing the comparative context in between them, which is detrimental for a review because it changes the opinion of a player completely. Because many of the fans of the originals were appalled by Renaissance, but welcomed the changes made in Reincarnation. It is true that Reincarnation is still worse than the Disciples 1 and 2, but it is so much more like Disciples 2 than Renaissance was. And for the fans of the series, who were starved for a sequel, it is still better than nothing, and a game worth playing.
Let's be real here, it's not a serious review, take it with a grain of salt. Still, I appreciate the feedback :)

I don't know why there are people who say disciples 2 is their favourite game in comments. I know, I know, to each their own. But the gritty, dark scenery, not being able to see what is what, who is who, the mana crystals being shown as just a single crystal instead of how they were shown in the first game... A lot of things are a downgrade from the first game. To this day, I am a huge Disciples: Sacred Lands fan since it was the first strategy game I played. Anyways, I tried D2 as well, didn't like it, but god was it horrible to watch D3 and Liberation. These games just suck.
