Thanks so much as always Owen. Mothin is a great man it's disgusting that such lies and hate speech are twisting the narrative. Usual tactics by usual suspects. You are a true man of the people 👏 💪❤️ Your community is lucky to have such an honourable representative actually protecting all the people regardless of race or creed . Massive respect ✊️

You label this video "whats the truth" and then in his first sentence your guest says its not fair to talk about the causes of the riot. Hardly transparent.... So lets discuss the cause that other people are claiming, that social services were attempting to steal some children from a family.

I live in Leeds and met Mothin Ali at a Green Fair last week. He was there with his wife and we had a long chat about his involvement with permaculture, and his commitment to and enthusiasm for his community in Harehills (an area I've previously also lived in). I was left very impressed by him and felt enormously heartened that Harehills has such a great representative. His actions last night are a further testament to what was already obvious to me - he's a genuine, warm-hearted and committed human being, trying to make the world a better place. Thanks for the interview Owen.

Harehills is not a safe place. My friend who was a gardener for Leeds City Council, was assaulted by a man in Harehills for accidently blowing leaves near his car. A female friend who was surveying trees for the council, was followed around the park by a man and another friend was followed by a man in the park, when she had her children with her. People can't do their jobs in the area and don't feel safe, due to the behaviour of the people who linger there. Thing is, social services are given a LOT of training on what to do in situations like this. Calling in a small army of police at the slightest hint of disagreement rather than escalating it via the courts etc is why this happened.
Of course, we can't know exactly what the decision making process was, just that some basic stipulations were not followed by someone and it caused it to all escalate uncontrollably.

Nobody in the video was having a go at social services or the police. Mothin actually talked about the police having things under control. He was putting his body on the line to protect the police and demonstrators from each other. And he's been liaising with the police and the local community since. The issue here is of a neglected area going up in flames out of pent up frustration. The gap between rich and poor in this country is out of control, but all attempts at building some kind of alternative - left-wing activism, trade unionism, various campaigns over social and ecological issues, etc., etc. are ritually attacked in the mainstream media and by mainstream politicians with activists, communities and just ordinary people going about their lives who don't fit the prescribed mould being belittled and demonised. The mindset that the appropriate reaction to people's increasing (and justified) frustration is to just keep dialling up the repressive powers of the state is part of the problem.
Maybe learn to listen to what people are actually saying and see communities that are not your own not as aliens to be forcibly controlled but as fellow human beings deserving of understand, respect and support.
