    I realllly enjoyed this bc I love learning about South Asian history. It's hard to find any videos in English about him! it's so crazy how modern his house was in just the 30s!

    Thank you - a fascinating presentation about a person I was previously only dimly aware of (through the two portraits). I’m definitely going to have to try and track that exhibition catalogue down now.

    Ohhhh thanks for this.. as someone who was rejected from fashion school but who later worked in the fashion industry… the maharajah of INDORÉ was such a mythological figure when it comes to accessories and DESIGN! ALSO I feel like I’m in class when I watch ur lecture for FREE!! thanks a lot men!!!

    This lecture made my heart so full! Thank you for giving me something to watch while I procrastinate on my art history homework. Thank you for putting so much effort into this bonus round. Thank you for uploading your lectures to TH-cam. The life of the Maharaja is absolutely stunning. The stories! The glitz! The photos! The design! The jewels! My only wish is that you'll do a follow up lecture?

    My forefathers used to work for Holkars as local Interior Designers, Carpenters, trouble shooters for fixing Imported stuff from Europe. Be it Cars, Charis or any other electronic equipments. I saw a very strong influence of Art Deco in my Grandfathers house. I think we still have some of the Art Deco objects that Holkars had.

    I have just viewed your most interesting presentation on the Holkar of INDORE here in Hertford England. INDORE'S Phantom 111 is in derelict condition in Calcutta unfortunately but his Hispano is restored and in the USA. Just thought you might be interested.

    Even today, there is very little Indian in any new Indian building, institution, monument or infrastructure unit.
    Hindu temples are usually the only exceptions

      Palace in Indore was designed by my uncle Eckart Muthesius and the exhibition at the MAD in Paris was wonderful. The maharani saw my aunt Vera Muthesius after many years again and they were very happy happy.

    "Most importantly there is no sign of Indian here?" what were you trying to say there Matthew! Indian's culture is no good, is that what you tried to say?

    • @HistoryofID
      @HistoryofID  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not at all. Just pointing out that the palace took its design cues form German design of the time. Helping influence the different existing styles already in evidence (traditional Indian, colonial British...). None "better" than any other, but all coming from different places and traditions....
