And if someone freezes a pregnant person, or puts them in that new hibernation thing of which they don't know yet how to get you out, is that person than still pregnant?
The thing about mixers and bottled cocktails I’ve never understood is it’s always the easiest drinks with easily available ingredients like the whiskey sour, margarita and for some reason a Moscow Mule. Like I’m pretty sure people have limes, sugar and lemons around anyways. I’d understand (not approve though) of more intricate cocktails like Zombies and other tiki drinks.
i know a lot of people who are the type of people that "always order mules" or "loves mojitos" but don't really tend to drink much and these are the exact person these mixers cater too because they have no idea how simple their drink would be to make, all they know is it costs $8 and it tastes good. These people see "just add alcohol" and that level of "pour some liquor into a mixer" is a comfortable thing because most everybody has had a whisky coke or a vodka cranberry, so poring liquor into a beverage is about all they are willing to do.
These are for the type of people that order Freshly or Blue Aprons or other pre-made, ready-to-cook foods. They're trying but have low skills, low knowledge and are more willing to throw money than time/effort at the problem.
I've watched your channel for a couple years now and I have some insight into the process regarding dilution. There is usually dilution added to the taste desired by the company. But putting it on ice to add a slight chill and little extra dilution isn't a bad thing. My company @ftbcocktails is releasing a line of canned cocktails and we went through the process to develop it based on my own ratios (including the dilution from shaking). On a personal note, I love a fresh-made cocktail. I make fresh cocktails almost every night from channels like yours as well as cocktails books. However, I think there's a huge shift to convenience, and if you can get a good taste and offer convenience and portability, people want that. Also, not everyone can MAKE a good cocktail even with the right ingredients, and that's another way these products work.
Packing under pressure decreases the evaporation rate of the VOCs in the citrus by increasing the force pushing back at the liquid trying to boil. This is called vapor pressure. Keeping it cold helps even more. Therefore preserving all of the oils and molecules present at pressing!
Recently found the OTR Old Fashioned and Aviation useful at a BYOBooze get together where I wasn’t going to be able to make my own cocktail, but didn’t want beer. Being able to take the bottle in the cooler and pour over ice for a decent cocktail was pretty nice. For 10 bucks a bottle around here it 3 drinks at a fair price
On The Rocks makes an Aviation and I think that's the only one that was a good idea because the Aviation at least contains a pretty uncommon ingredient with creme de violette that not many people would have and you'd have to really like Aviations to own a bottle of that stuff
I recently had this one and their old fashioned and enjoyed them both. Obviously I'd rather make my own fresh but for what they are, I didn't hate 'em at all.
I'm only a beginner at all this mixologgy fun, but I just made the switch from bottled to fresh squeezed citrus juices and I can definitely tell. Keep up the great work.
On the banana thing: artificial banana flavouring dates from the time that the Gros Michel banana was the market mainstay, they all died off in the 50s thanks to a fungus called "Panama disease" and now we use the Cavendish banana. Different banana cultivars mean different flavours - much the same as different apple varieties have different flavours.
I seem to recall that Seagrams (or somebody) had a line of bottled cocktails back in the 70s. They were cocktails for two. The cap was a drinking cup, and the other portion was drunk from the bottle. They weren't very good. Also in the 70s Kahlua sold a pre-mixed Black Russian which was very good.
Hey man love your your content! I watch vanderpump rules with my fiance too. She actually bought me the book... they use very specific ingredients for their cocktails. I would love to see a video of you reviewing some of the drinks in their books and see which drinks are worth making.
If I saw my barkeep doing that, I'd leave. But most of the barkeeps in my area can't mix an Old Fashioned or Mojito to save their lives. Margarita? Sure. As long as the slush machine is working.
Would be cool to do a blind taste test between fresh-made and bottled (especially with the third brand with fresh juice) to see how obvious the difference is without the label.
I've only ever had the OTR Old Fashioned and I am almost certain it comes pre-diluted. It claims to use Knob Creek (100 proof) but only comes in at 70 proof. Even if you assume they mix it a little sweeter (.5oz simple) that's way below where it should be sitting.
Oxidation is a given once citrus is squeezed but another big factor is that the alcohol also reacts(denatures) with juice over time and creates various cough syrup flavors. I think Drinksmith figured this one out
One of my fiancee's friends bought us the vanderpump cocktail book as a gift. Hate to admit but there's a couple nice ones in there tbh. I'd recommend the DILF.
Many people said that the age of online and digital reading would kill the book and library industries. We haven't seen it happen yet. While there will be changes and challenges brought to the bartender's line of business, there's no reason to believe a drink in a disposable bottle can topple an empire built on alcoholism and sentimentality.
I've managed to find two bottled cocktails I was a fan of. Cody Road makes a pretty nice barrel-aged old fashioned and a liquor stores near where I used to live sold what they called a "Proprietary Cocktail" which was cask strength scotch that had vermouth and nut bitters added to it.
I just made a few of your mai tai recipe (subbing Smith and Cross for a bit of the rum of course), and I laugh at these things in their general direction.
How much trouble is it to make a cocktail (fresh) anyway? I have followed some of the recipes presented on educated barfly and many are pretty quick... when you're not talking about them ...
You have inspired me to finally branch out. I'm a raw novice, content with my vodka and lemon every night. Time to break out the dusty bottles from the depths of my liquor locker and try some new things. Maybe I can get the wife involved, too... No, "Days of wine and roses", harkens here. Who knows the depths of depravity that I can delve in this accursed isolation imposed on me..! Oh, sorry, I'm in Nevada, not Cali, I still have freedom of movement... Keep it up, Leandro, I'm enjoying this very much...
I once ordered freshly squeezed orange juice from a menu. When it came I asked is this freshly squeezed? The waiter said that’s what it says on the carton 🤦♂️
What about the cost using comparable spirits and fresh ingredients? Obviously the bottle of spirit would be expensive but could you make more per dollar? Kinda sounds that some would be good for events that would be easy to control cost while providing better/consistent serve without taking too long.
Lol, the old fashioned mixer seems pretty silly. I understand how, as you add more niche ingredients, there is practicality for people who want to limit the amount of bottles they buy.
Local wine/liquor store here sells On the Rocks and can’t keep the old fashioned in stock. I have never had myself, but after seeing this episode, I may try
Curious as to how much these cost -- it seems to me that if I want an easy drink, it'd be cheaper and better to just drink a nice cider or beer *shrug* The Drinxmyth ones do seem like they could be fun to bring on a picnic. The twist and shake makes you feel like you're still doing something, lol. But otherwise, if I'm home, I'd rather just make my own cocktails. I got into this because it seemed like a fun thing to do, learning a new skill.
I think this would work best for stirred cocktails without citrus juice. Quite the easy principle, just measure it, bottle it and pour it over ice at home. And whereas most ppl have the stuff for sours or an old fashioned at home, I could rather see myself get one of these for like, a vieux carré
I recently made a Negroni, bottled it and stored it in the fridge, a couple of days. It tasted better, more settled. But I would never buy a bottled cocktail.. I love making them too much.
Even though some of the drinks already have lemon or other citrus notes which you feel make it taste midisional would it not help adding fresh citrus maybe to overpower that fake taste .
In my country the biggest soft drinks company made a line of virgin cocktail-inspired beverages... for example the 'cosmo' doesn't even contain cranberry or any sort of citrus 0_o
Id be interested in trying drinxmith if they had them where I'm from. Also doing a blind taste test with them and some freshly made cocktails would be fun.
It's hard to concentrate on you will all those Wellers in the background. LOL PS Never had a bottled cocktail, closest I ever had was the 50 mil bottles of scotch. :)
but the ting is, even the drnxmyth ones are 10 bucks a bottle, so the price difference between a fresh one and one of those actually isnt that big, just doesnt really seem worth it tbh
They sell those “on the rocks” ones in my area for $20 per bottle!!!!! You could buy a bottle for $20 and make 10 times the cocktail they give you I honestly am struggling with the fact these companies survive at all
When I'm not in the mood to make a cocktail (especially fruit squeezin's), a Black Manhattan or simple syrup Old Fashioned is easy enough. And hey-o.... is the Mrs. calling you out mid-video? HAHA!
Check out these guys curating.com, I’ve just signed up to their club, 4 cocktails per month delivered to my door. I’ve not received my first order yet, so will update when I get them.
As an adult, I have never understood lemonade mixes. Making real lemonade is as easy as using a mix. Likewise, a real cocktail is so much better than a mix it's not even a contest, especially if you have to mix it anyway, which is probably the most onerous part of making a cocktail. Old Fashioned!? Easiest cocktail ever. Maybe "Gin & Tonic" is easier.
You spend a good bit of time talking about fresh juices here, and in the Educated Barfly videos you always have nice full bottles of fresh juices. Care to share a hack, or is it just old fashioned elbow grease we don’t see behind the scenes? Maybe citrus hacks 101 might be a Freepour idea?
I work in a bottle shop i think the kits are the best, get what you need without needed to buy full bottles but make it yourself don't be lazy don't buy Bottled Cocktails
Pre made cocktails for the same price as drinking out but at home. Meh drinking at home I want to do it at a discount and with more class than plastic bottles.
The DRNXMYTH look intriguing, not a horrible price at 9.99, and its says it's a cocktail for 2. Seems like a cool option for a packed cooler and or a quick grab at package/liquor store for example. headed to pool with no bar for example, sneek a few of these in. for whatever reason reminds of the flaskap - flaskap.com/
Bottled Old Fashioned is not only a stupid idea. It’s immoral. I’m genuinely upset here. If I ever saw someone actually pour that I’d tell them my opinion.
“Knob Creek is in here... same way they say that Hornitos is in here, using that as a selling point” is another one of their ‘selling points’ that they exclusively use spirits whose names are easy fodder for boner based puns?
Julio Bernejo once said about Citrus juice: Fresh is like pregnant. Either you are or you’re not.
And if someone freezes a pregnant person, or puts them in that new hibernation thing of which they don't know yet how to get you out, is that person than still pregnant?

Like I’m pretty sure people have limes, sugar and lemons around anyways. I’d understand (not approve though) of more intricate cocktails like Zombies and other tiki drinks.
yeah, I agree.
tho the reason is that those are the most famous ones.
People who know of more complex cocktails do not want this premade stuff
i know a lot of people who are the type of people that "always order mules" or "loves mojitos" but don't really tend to drink much and these are the exact person these mixers cater too because they have no idea how simple their drink would be to make, all they know is it costs $8 and it tastes good. I really love this new approach in this channel. Keep it going! Always awesome.
I've watched your channel for a couple years now and I have some insight into the process regarding dilution. There is usually dilution added to the taste desired by the company. you should have someone taste these vs your cocktails with similar ingredients (maybe on the other channel so you get more viewers in this channe)l
This is exactly the sorta content I came here for! I always love to see how the tech has developed
Packing under pressure decreases the evaporation rate of the VOCs in the citrus by increasing the force pushing back at the liquid trying to boil. This is called vapor pressure. Keeping it cold helps even more. Therefore preserving all of the oils and molecules present at pressing!

If I was staying at a hotel and these were in the bar fridge and they were free and I felt like a drink I would find a nearby bar .
🔥🔥🔥
Brutal...
The on the rocks ones are great! Only good tasting premade option. Check em out!
Best 25 min of my day.
thank you both!
Water Lily is also a pretty common and delicious drink you can make using violet if you get tired of Avaiations.
Delirium tremens or alcohol withdrawals is deadly!! Great video
I'm only a beginner at all this mixologgy fun, but I just made the switch from bottled to fresh squeezed citrus juices and I can definitely tell. Keep up the great work.
but citrus juices dont oxides?
I made the switch from fresh to super juice and honestly super juice might even be better while also being cheaper and longer lasting
I wish I could get the Drnxmyth in the Phoenix area. Can't have it shipped here from their website. Sad day.
Y’all are the best! Enjoyed this so much!
As a millennial, I'm more offended by an old fashioned in a bottle, even though that is a terrible name.
"Old fashioned" and "hermetically sealed, industrially produced" are antithetical.
The bottled old fashioned from Bar Chef in Toronto is amazing. Bar Chef is on another level in general.
35% of the pleasure is making your own drink
Hey man love your your content! I watch vanderpump rules with my fiance too. She actually bought me the book... they use very specific ingredients for their cocktails. I would love to see a video of you reviewing some of the drinks in their books and see which drinks are worth making.
My wife is really bugging me to do some cocktails from that book 😂 I’ll probably end up doing it soon
If I saw my bartender doing this, I think I would cut there tip in half. These are a good idea for the home bar. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!!
If I saw my barkeep doing that, I'd leave. But most of the barkeeps in my area can't mix an Old Fashioned or Mojito to save their lives. Margarita? Sure. As long as the slush machine is working.

jdawg that’s a great point
One of my fiancee's friends bought us the vanderpump cocktail book as a gift. Hate to admit but there's a couple nice ones in there tbh. I'd recommend the DILF.
It’s only a matter of time before I do some on Barfly main channel 😂
Many people said that the age of online and digital reading would kill the book and library industries. We haven't seen it happen yet. While there will be changes and challenges brought to the bartender's line of business, there's no reason to believe a drink in a disposable bottle can topple an empire built on alcoholism and sentimentality.
Good point LOL!
They may have gotten the “natural flavours” etc., by taking the remains left after juicing citrus fruits, blending them, and pressing them for an oil.
Please review wandering bar man. BTW - “on the rocks” products are only good if you add more spirits.
People who succumb to bottled cocktails don't know what they're missing: more pleasure in preparing them, more pleasure in drinking them.
I just made a few of your mai tai recipe (subbing Smith and Cross for a bit of the rum of course), and I laugh at these things in their general direction.
LOL You got a like from me just for the thumbnail.😁😆🤣
How much trouble is it to make a cocktail (fresh) anyway? I have followed some of the recipes presented on educated barfly and many are pretty quick... when you're not talking about them ...

Topic, cocktails when you are running out of stuff.
Local wine/liquor store here sells On the Rocks and can’t keep the old fashioned in stock. I have never had myself, but after seeing this episode, I may try
Why is nobody talking about the pronunciation of “banana” here 😂 was hilarious
Once again, not bad
Would love to see the fresh vs non-fresh citrus test :)
If they are good they are nice for bringing to the beach and such. Places where you don't want to mess around
Good
Point!
Orange tictac old fashioned just like in the good ol days
Curious as to how much these cost -- it seems to me that if I want an easy drink, it'd be cheaper and better to just drink a nice cider or beer *shrug*

Agreed
The drnxmyth cocktails on their website are $10 each, but appear to only be available in LA? Atleast from them directly.
Links to the twist and shake cocktails(?) want to send to a friend
You should do a collab with Rhett and Link on Good Mythical Morning and do a blind taste test with these!
I had that Rock n Rye which is basically a very sweet old fashioned...too sweet for me
I think this would work best for stirred cocktails without citrus juice. Quite the easy principle, just measure it, bottle it and pour it over ice at home. And whereas most ppl have the stuff for sours or an old fashioned at home, I could rather see myself get one of these for like, a vieux carré
A lazy man's cocktail it is. Those could never replace,a bartender's hard work.
hilarious and informative
I recently made a Negroni, bottled it and stored it in the fridge, a couple of days. It tasted better, more settled. But I would never buy a bottled cocktail.. I love making them too much.
Even though some of the drinks already have lemon or other citrus notes which you feel make it taste midisional would it not help adding fresh citrus maybe to overpower that fake taste .
rooster guy sure but wouldn’t that defeat the point of a cocktail in a bottle?
You need to try barchefs premixed old fashioned. It's surprisingly good and balanced
In my country the biggest soft drinks company made a line of virgin cocktail-inspired beverages... for example the 'cosmo' doesn't even contain cranberry or any sort of citrus 0_o
also the bottled kamikaze at around 4% is oddly popular out there...
Your face says it all. I can tell either "no thank you," "not bad," or "surprisingly good" just from your facial expressions.
thanks
Talks for 4:00 minutes before acknowledging that his ice is melting. Proceeds to talk for another 2.5 minutes before actually opening up a bottle.
"like and subscribe"... I know it pleases the youtube gods, Love the channel, keep making good stuff
In liquid intelligence they talk about how they used to bottle old-fashioneds in the Old Times™
The margarita one is supposed to be yellow and it turns white over time
Start at minute 7. OMG how long does it take to try a bottle
A long long long time 😂 patience is a virtue you know
Considering companies keep trying I assume there always will be a market for such products, but it will never taste as the real thing!
Id be interested in trying drinxmith if they had them where I'm from. Also doing a blind taste test with them and some freshly made cocktails would be fun.
They'd have to come down in price before they become convenient enough...
I actually enjoy making my cocktails
It's hard to concentrate on you will all those Wellers in the background. LOL PS Never had a bottled cocktail, closest I ever had was the 50 mil bottles of scotch. :)
but the ting is, even the drnxmyth ones are 10 bucks a bottle, so the price difference between a fresh one and one of those actually isnt that big, just doesnt really seem worth it tbh
Funny I follow most of them 😂
They sell those “on the rocks” ones in my area for $20 per bottle!!!!! You could buy a bottle for $20 and make 10 times the cocktail they give you
I honestly am struggling with the fact these companies survive at all
Im also on a vid class so ill watch this in parts...
NIce work! We just tried DRNXMYTH last week. We concur. Yummy stuff!
When I'm not in the mood to make a cocktail (especially fruit squeezin's), a Black Manhattan or simple syrup Old Fashioned is easy enough. And hey-o.... is the Mrs. calling you out mid-video? HAHA!
Yep 😂 PRETTY MUCH!
Are saying medicinal because I’ve never heard it said how you said it
Yes. Yes it is....The end is nigh...
What about the premixed negroni that campari makes?
🤔
This would be worse than a global epidemic forcing ppl to stay at home
22:55 it was just a Smithtake
I made two cosmopolitans yesterday
Check out these guys curating.com, I’ve just signed up to their club, 4 cocktails per month delivered to my door. I’ve not received my first order yet, so will update when I get them.

I use an electric citrus juicer.. and elbow grease ...but it’s always fresh juice on EBF I use a lot because I shoot a lot of episodes in a day
I like making cocktails so I won't buy things like these
Wow those Drnxmyth are 9,99 $ each. Hefty price.
Yeah but they’re 200ml so that’s like two drinks...
I work in a bottle shop i think the kits are the best, get what you need without needed to buy full bottles but make it yourself don't be lazy don't buy Bottled Cocktails
Wish I watched this video before drinking On The Rocks Margarita...Terrible! Thank God it was a sample pack.
Have you guys tried my cucumcoupe cocktail yet
Why does this guy just hate so hard on the camera guy in every video lmao, I feel so bad for him
I think your experience was muddled (phrasing) by the lack of glassware.
yes
Wow
Pre made cocktails for the same price as drinking out but at home. Meh drinking at home I want to do it at a discount and with more class than plastic bottles.

When I'm lazy or I don't like the customer I use pre-made old fashioned and just add cheap bourbon
the bartenders are safe

You won’t lose your job over these, you’re to sexy and fantastic at your job😊🙈😉. They are not. Lol
Banana
A bottled cocktail with little to no instructions on how to enjoy/prepare it? Now that's lazy.
