    Sorry, I quite like your reviews, but if a manufacturer sends you an item for a genre of photography, Macro work, which you know nothing about - just send it back. This video is pretty pointless. Stick to what you know - you do that well.

    You need a flash for macro, because these shots are taken at a higher f-stop to get your subject entirely in focus. Very useful for macro..

    • @alfa156
      @alfa156 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly. A lot of the criticisms don't really apply to macro photography either; eg video light casting shadow. As for supplying step up rings for every conceivable lens, that would be a bit impractical. Interesting, if expensive, niche product.

      These Kind of Twin or ring flashes,
      Aren't too weight for modern, fragile lenses, as opposite to metal, rugged, vintage lenses?

    I think you have the wrong idea of what high speed sync does. It has nothing to do with high speed shooting or burst modes. It has to do with being able to use flash at a shutter speed that is higher than the camera's top sync shutter speed without getting those black bands you would get with a non high speed sync flash.

    • @ArthurR
      @ArthurR  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's why i took the shot at 1/4000 to see if it would fire. The other burst shots were to demonstrate the recycle time on the flashes.

  • @larrykay6606
    @larrykay6606 6 ปีที่แล้ว +48

    I think you're missing the whole point of this flash setup. They look great for use with macro lenses, extension tubes, etc where you want a high f stop to give the best depth of field while still having a high shutter speed to freeze the movement of the little critters you're trying to photograph (like that ant!).

    • @larrykay6606
      @larrykay6606 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, this thing is listed on Amazon for $300 for a Nikon. Will probably be the same price for Sony. That's quite a bit to not include any other filter size adapters.

    • @ArthurR
      @ArthurR  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It makes sense, the only thing is they don't include the 49mm filter thread adapter needed for the Sony 30mm Macro lens. So you have to use extension tubes with other lenses.

      @burning1rr 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ArthurR All you'd need is a step-up ring adapter. a.co/d/d9wp5zL. FWIW, 49mm is pretty uncommon for macro lenses, so it's not a big surprise they omitted it from their kit. :)

    How could you review something that you don't know which purpose has? A perfect review of how to don't make a review. It's a flash exclusively for macro photography and it's clear that you have no idea what are you talking about. I'm sorry, I'm pretty honest.

  • @rafbass
    @rafbass 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This is a flash for Macro photography, the light on top is not for video, it's to help AF. You also don't need to burst like that for macro photography. I think you reviewed it wrongly...

    • @paddyola1
      @paddyola1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i bought mine, these reviewers who don't know about macro photography really shouldn't review something they arent too familiar with( or understand workarounds).
      I'm mounting the flash heads on flexible twin arms, no need for lens adapting rings
      on the burst mode side, for tiny flashes they were ok, who would expect a flash every frame?

    Spend less time on unboxing a product and more time on it's features. For instance you said nothing about whether power levels can be controlled individually for each flash head giving one the ability to control shading and a 3D look. Most flashes of this type offer separate power controls for each head. High speed sync on a macro flash is mostly for freezing a fast moving subject, not for multiple frames, even though there are some powerful flashes that can do that. Asking why you need a flash for macro gives away your lack of understanding of macro photography. Anyways, nice to see what the flash looks like assembled and some of it's features.

    In general, I like your reviw videos and get lots of good info from them. Here, I feel pretty much missed the mark. This is a dedicated macro flash system, and a lot of your comments / criticisms had to do with uses not really applicable to macro, still photography. The one helpful thing I got from this review was that the unit works correctly on Sony a6xxx cameras. So, thanks for that.

    These are mostly for macro photography, you should look more into the settings mostly used, higher F stop for more depth of field at higher magnifications, more light at higher speeds, not for burst, it mostly aids to freeze the motion of.you hand shakiness when using 1:1 or 2:1 etc

  • @OrwinSantaCruz
    @OrwinSantaCruz 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    These are for macro shots, not sports so the flashes aren't really meant to keep up with the burst mode. You'd be using it like the box shows (bugs and tiny objects) and you might even want to go manual focus just to really dial in where you're trying to shoot and use a high number aperture which is why you'd need the light these give.

    looking lenses recomendation... I've been looking the videos all aournd, I need to do some theater video and photography. I choose de a6500 for 4k and for a lot of I have seen here... But my main issue is what couple of lenses. I know I need low ligth lenses. I have 2 scenario. Photography, I'll be close to the stage, about 4mts away, want to capture cristal clear the widest possible using the burst shooting of the a6500 to get most of the action. Which lens do you recommend?
    And the second scenario is Video. From the sound booth at the teather or at least from 20mts away from the stage, I would need to zoom in to an area of the stage for about 4mt tall per 7 mts wide, the camera would be manual focus to avoid focus jumping with the ligths. What lense do you recomend for that? I really appreciate your advice, because I don't want to spend a lot of money choosing lenses that doesn't work at all :(, and of course, budget is always an issue...

    I've been comparing this to Nikon and Canon MK-MT24 and both Nikon and Canon have taller bodies. They do not have the same problem with the commander being too low. So I guess Meike did a lazy job and just converted the hot shoe to Sony without thinking about the commander flash being obstructed by that huge ring...
