Without doubt, my favourite channel on TH-cam now. Better than anything else. Real blokes doing real work. Proper skills, and techniques that will probably be lost over time. Hats off, Steve.
I totally agree 👍 I love ❤️ this channel and all of the workers they are the best 👌 👍
What chopping out rust and welding patches? I like channel too but keep it real.
@@KMCZingst it is real and there is more to it than just chopping out rust and putting patches on as you say..I know all about cars and when you are working on unibody construction cutting and welding you better know what you are doing there is more to it than you think 🤔
i have to agree accept for the cringy music, i'd rather listen to the machinery and banging in the background 👍👍
why would it get lost, its even getting better. those shit cars are now rusty, not in 1977 when they were released. what they restored in the 70s what was built in the 40s was completely different and much easier. So this is a craft that is envolving not disappearing.
No CAD, no water jet, no lasers. Just proper bit of hand fabrication. Proper craftsmanship, great to see 👍🏻
Plenty of Cardboard Aided Design though
@@bartl9956 Yep, nice bit of old school cad
they didnt use much CAD when this car was produced, well maybe there was. I think they started using that kind of software in the late 1970s
I literally discovered this channel today (25/05/2023) through Mat Armstrong's video ... Yorkshire Car Restorations is already in my top 5!!!
Thank you :) I'm glad your enjoying our videos :)
A longer video! Much welcomed.
I've found my new faith. Watching my laptop grinning ear to ear. Love the music & love the work.
Brings me back to my old days working as an Engineer in Molins... those were good days.
Yer fab ing is a satisfying job :)
You are Magician . In France we have lost a lot of knowledges . We are not able to found specialist for sheet metal work and welding. Thank you for the video.
Send your cars to England
il y en a encore qui existent, mais ils sont rares.
@@idrisddraig2 they are not rare,..they are old !!!!!!!!!!!!
I love a bit of proper CAD, Carboard aided design 😀
What a delightful way to spend 30 mins, brilliant fabrication skills as ever , beautiful .As for those subscriber figures Wow another thousand in a week - well deserved
Keep this quality of the job, and relaxing music and this channel will make a success
Thank you :)
The way you fabricate the forms in the metal is really clever, I wouldn't know where to start , really nice work. 😁
Terrific presentation of remarkable and meticulous fabrication of steel craftsmanship
Great work! I tell ya, 25 years in the industry and at 50 I need hearing aids, why? Because I was to stupid to use ear protection!! Now I wear it for EVERYTHING, even a battery chainsaw which is pretty quiet, trying to save what little I have left. Let my failure b a lesson to ALL,
Thank you for your input.
Another piece of tin bashing wonderfulness on a Wednesday Steve. Great as ever!
Again Steve an excellent case of your skill in fabrication, inner and outer wheel arc repairs are my favourite job , not , I wear glasses also and find I'm always knocking them when I'm looking in and out if that makes sense . It's amazing that you share your work with us ... Thanks again for your amazing contents......
After a really hard day at work, an absolute pleasure to sit down with a drink and chill. Thank you.
Awesome. Please keep these vids coming. We appreciate all the work patience and commitment going into the projects
Been waiting for this

Liked the detail on bead rolling with the urethane backup.
Great stuff, half hour video just flew by 👍
One arch repair, condensed to 30mins and yet to be finish welded, filed and finished. A small percentage of what this car needs and why so many hours go into a restoration. I did my apprenticeship under a proper old school panel beater and I like to pick apart these sorts of videos but all I can say is, love your work👌
Incredible as always.
Thank you Bob.
Absolutely magical Steve 😊 I couldn’t even cut the cardboard never mind the sheet metal lol 😆 love your channel guys 👍🏻
Always fascinating to try and work out what you're going to chop out and how you're going to replace it!
Haha thank you Neil, and thank you for your continued support :)
Just another great repair so good to see the rust removed and new metal installed top job
Thank you Paul :)
I was just reading the comments on how another person like me says that this is there favorite channel too and I commented on it..I know first hand this is very hard work but very rewarding because you can see what you are doing you guys have given many cars a second life again there isn't many people who can do what you all do because when others just patch up a little they don't Last long but when you guys fix them they are good for another lifetime and maybe longer I should say and that is a beautiful thing to restore something that can Last for generations with proper care...thanks so much for the upload and thanks to you guys I'm going to be able to restore my jaguar and for that I can't thank you enough..
Love watching the panel fabricating and welding in, great stuff keep it coming guys.
amazing Quality work like always you make it look so easy flaring the arch and making the bottom sill section looking forward to more as always
Hi, excellent job yet again 👌👌 Best back end I've seen for a few months 🤪🤪
This is some serious metal fabrication right here 👌 👏. Mad skills. 😊
Loving the old school skills on display. Almost hypnotic with the gentle music playing in the background.
Dare I say this craftsmanship will be a dying art in the future? I would encourage my three year old to be an engineer or to do something like this because by the time he’s older he will command good money for his services.
That’s if AI hasn’t taken over by then.😂
Sadly, it's a throw away society now and skills like this is a dying art, most places just replace parts with new or scrap if they can't nowadays.
The only positive is those with the skills are more in demand as less learn.
@@darianistead2239 I agree totally. I own two trucks and do as much work on them as possible to keep costs down.
I’ve always been mechanically minded since doing a YTS in the early 90s.
But like you say. People just buy new stuff instead of fixing things.
@@broadsworddannyboy655 Same here. My old man had an engineering shop building race cars and engines, his mate who raced cars bartered work where they kept eachothers stuff pristine. I did my apprenticeship doing panel/paint with the old mans mate and also worked for the olds as a mechanic/engineer. After years on the tools I moved onto do automotive upholstery lol. Now I don't even work on cars for a living, I now get more pleasure and work done on my own stuff than ever and only need a shop for the dyno, but I know if I need I have trades I can always fall back on..
He is a master fabricator,
Really cool, how you made and attached that small indented piece!😮
Love the M635!
Bit of a master class there mate. Top work 👍🏻
very neat job Steve
Thank you Steve :)
Wow, awesome job!!
Thank you Logan :)
Well done! Looks 😍! So nice to watch the process, love your channel!
Thank you we do appreciate your support.
Beautiful craftsmanship
Thank you :)
Hello ! Nice Music! I like how the cars emerge from yours work
Another great video Steve! 👍
proper stuff done right ; )
👏 👏 👏 my e28 is next!
Great repair on that wheel arch😎👍
Thanks Steve awesome display of knowledge and experience, skill keeping it simple using techniques that I can learn and practice, needed this , I have rust on my wheel arch, cheers YCR.
Amazing job, you are a real artist.
Coming on nicely steve😊
Pure skill 👌, as a painter i wuuld love you guys to do my metal frabrication . I would only need a few skims off bog and happy days . 👍
Haha yes we do try to leave the metal as close to original as posible :)
Damn fine work. This channel is a must.
I loved watching every minute of this video and i think i know exactly where im bringing my car for welding repairs.
True work of art, keep them coming guys
You make it look so easy
The Artist.
Cracking watch as always helps me loads doing my project. Keep it up steve
All the respect for your work 👍
Guys, sorry to be annoying but you have missed the swage line on the rear wheel arch, its the area where the plastic side trim fits with a 5mm plastic nut inside the wheel arch. Other than that not a bad job. 👍🏻
It's only very slight and is going to be tapped out with a hammer and dolly when the rear arch cover is replaced :)
👍🏻
Pure talent - respect!!!!!
Proper work that. Great video 👌🏼
Dudes! Great content. Keep it coming. You are artists. Amazing work. Love it.
Amazing work as always
Excellent work!
Top workmanship... let's face it if the owner wants an even better restoration the car will have to be put on a rotisserie 👍👍
Yep all down to customer budget :)
lets go another ycr video
Браво мастеру!!!!!👍
i definitely would prefer more voice over and explanation of some of these timelapses but love the videos
Love the music at 18.00. I hate to think how difficult Mats car will be to this!!! Undoubtedly will come out as new though
Great video 👍 Gonna have some reddish pink bowgies after prepping that BMW 😅,I would personally English wheel (very lightly) the new metal then cut out repair pieces keep up the Great work 😊
Awesome skills
Great skill👍
Just love this stuff, life is real here not like TV repair shops. My only comment is I would rather have a real workshop soundtrack in place of this crap elevator music, but as I do I can always turn the sound off. Thanks for something to watch, keep the videos coming.
Nice work👌
Nice work! Always cool when you can make a good repair panel from scratch! Thank God BMW's don't rot like Japanese motors!
well this is a good one, i have seen many worse. most cars from the 70s rust like hell.
Magnífic work
Amazing
great workmanship was that a lap joint i saw
Yes it was , I don’t understand why some people get upset by a lap joint. Every car from new is covered in them. The only down side to a lap joint is that they can trap water if not treated after it’s done. There are other arguments but iv been doing this for 25+ years and never had a problem as have many other car restorers. They are used when access isn’t available unless making more work or cutting more good metal out unnecessary. :)
Love the fabrication and precision in the work. I just can't understand why you dont fabricate the inner arch first while you have good access to it (especially at the front of the arch? It would have been easy to gringd and treat the welds on both sides and plenty of room to work at. Instead you make the outer arch first and then fill in the inner bits.
It also seems like most of the arch is rusted i the spot welds and there is rust in between the whole arch....
Good work :)
Cracking watch again Steve have you had a go with the R tech yet
Great job, mind your ears
BMW invest years of reserch and milions creating a press , steve from YCR knocks one up in a couple of hours for $3.50 worth of steel amazing work fellers
Anything can be a accomplished with a bit of sheet steel Karen :) and thank you :)
What happens with the back side of the new patch? How do you protect it against rust?
We neutralise then cavity wax when the job is done.
Question: any reason why those inner arch pieces weren’t butt welded together? You seemed to have plated over the hole? Genuinely curious as you seem to butt weld anything else. Lovely work btw
Rear the subtitles. It's says this inner arch peice will be addressed in a later video when we get the car on the ramp like all the rest of the sections underneath.
@@yorkshirecarrestoration ah ok understood! love your fab, it’s incredible
you know i wish i never got rid of my e38 bmw it was excellent with no rust on it at all it had bbs alloys lowered on bc racing coilovers and drove like a dream , but costs just weighed me up so sold it for 1000 less .....:o(
and very good video KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK . A+
I have mine no rust or rott rear jacking points done all still lush 1999 Pearl white inside green pipping ..
@@guy4469 what engine is yours.
@@aceace5457 728i does me fine 200bhp
@@guy4469 thats what mine was lol a gloriuos machine.
I so would learn how to do this... I have several classic to restore.
One question, if you can answer: is there is a risk of fire when welding on a petrol car?
I love it 2023 man fly on jet packs driverless cars . but we still need card board and corn flake boxes to make templates ,ready for welding it will never change .
Cad doing it's thing.
Cardboard Aided Design 👍
Brilliant job, how many man hours go into a repair like this?
love your work!
how much would you guys charge for welding on a mk1 mx5 (i know its hard to quote as there could be hidden rust) but whats the average and worst case scenario “cost”
You mean impossible to quote..
You need to say what needs repair and where, if you have a repair section or if it needs to be made, extent of repair, soo so many variables..
One would need to see for themselves..
5.45: Safety squints set to stun.
damn that's awesome
Good that a .like it
Ronnie Wilson,are you watching this😂?
Iv no idea who Ronnie wilson is :)
I think the way you make up to individual pieces and join them all up like a jig saw is great. It saves £££ on original panels but is it not a lot more time consuming?
Our channel isn't about £££ it's about fabrication. Anyone can buy a panel and bolt or weld it in place. It's about learning how metal bends and applying that to the bit of rust that you can't buy a panel for. Becides where's the fun in not making it? :)
You do it very well
Your episodes go way too quickly. Some great auto body repair skills on display every episode.
Haha thank you :)
What mig wire do you use?
0.8 :)
Have been watching your channel for a while now. Really like the work that goes into patching up and shaping the panels. But always leaves me wondering about longevity. You cut the rust out, patch it up, but rust can be rooted deeper than your cut, even in the healthy part of the metal it just not visible with the bare eye. Why is there no sandblasting involved in the process ?
No need we rust neatralize then cavity wax later.
Stupid question but is there not a wheel arch repair kit on the market
Possibly but we are all about fabricating. And welding a repair panel in ain't fabricating :)
Should have a guard on that grinder would take your face off if the disc breaks with your head under the wheel arch
Thank you for your input.
What do you coat the inside of the patch sections with? Or are they left raw?
Everything ge s neutralised and Waxoiled inside after the job is done.
Can i ask what kind of cost is involved for these repairs?
Did you consider starting with a really large block of steel and chiseling off all the bits that didn’t resemble the finished BMW? Might have taken less time and effort.
