I laud your efforts to give Mike a teaching moment! So many of those terms like deformed, crippled, disabled, etc., like many others associated with race, religion and more, were (and are still) considered OK. The challenge is helping others learn and understand that those terms are actually demeaning and disrespectful, and one can learn to communicate in a different, more positive way, that gets a better result.
