    A few months ago I had a slight engine vibration on my Toro Timemaster. I believe I didn’t hit anything and all the common reasons you mentioned seemed ok. After a couple weeks I finally found one of the three engine mount bolts was loose. I tightened the bolt and the vibration stopped.

      @Billy Goat same thing happened to mine. I thought it was a rod knock at first but was very relieved to find it was just loose engine bolts!

      @@jodybrownbrown5411 I noticed that the whole engine shook when it was under a load and also when I shut it off. There are 3 bolts underneath that hold the engine down to the frame, all 3 were loose on mine. 2 of them are pretty easy to get to, the 3rd one you need a long extension or a deep socket (can’t remember which) to reach but it’s not hard to do. All this time later and mine is still just fine, I luv that mower and my SR4’s

    Thank you for the lesson on vibration. I now have hope that I can bring back my 1960's two stroke rope pull craftsman to its original charm. After hitting something, and the vibration afterward I was sure the crank was bent. It may be but I'm hoping its the blade, or flywheel key? Dony boy your a gift to all in the you tube classroom!! I've seen all of those conditions over the decades... and bent mower decks and broken spindles on zero turns and mid-mount mower decks on garden tractors. It kind of goes with the territory in my area with stones, exposed roots, tree stumps, and even exposed bed rock. In conversations with friends it seems that we all have to regularly fix our elderly parents' mowers. This as they don't see well or react well to obstacles... Me, I'm planning ahead and teaching my sons how to fix these kinds of problems so they can fix my stuff in the future. 😉

    I’ll be checking my mower tomorrow based on this video. I had a really rough day with vibrations from both my mower and weed eater. My forearms and hands are pretty worn out and numb. I do hit tree roots and other objects if the grass is high and I can’t see what’s under there when I’m in a client’s yard. I just assumed my mower could take the abuse but I guess not! What an expensive assumption. Hopefully I won’t have to replace the mower. It was pretty smooth in the beginning.

    Thank you I'm going to try to replace the blade and see if that works. I ran over a big clunk of metal that seemed to be half buried I didn't see in the shrubs and then apparently there was a yarn ball that was buried that I had no idea about from the previous people that just had so much litter in their yard over the years so my lawn mower started shaking and sounded like a garbage disposal I'm going to see if replacing the blade will help.

    Thanx for the reminders I made the mistake of 'chopping leaves' with the mower - I swore off of that bad habit and usually use a double blade to add 'flywheel' if I do but this little mower should NOT have been abused since it ran so well - so I knew all three conditions but it was nice to have a reminder - my guess is the key sheared a bit - or my hope is the key sheared a bit - maybe a bent blade I will find out now that it is spring out

    On higher quality units like Honda's the crankshaft is bolted to a thick steel disc. The blades are fitted to the disc. That disc can get bent and cause vibration if you really hit something hard. Another great Vidya.

    I have a disc shaped lawnmower blade assembly & I was getting a knocking noise & a bit of a vibration because the clearance between the blade boss & the crankshaft was 0.1 millimetres which was causing some sloppiness in the blade assembly.
    I used Loctite 620 to fix the problem & I've done some mowing with it since.
    Worn wheel bushes or bearings also caused an exaggerated vibration as well !

    I have seen a fair amount of Honda, Husqvarna, Troy Bilt, and a few of the newer craftsman mowers with cracked engine mount holes on the deck that caused vibration. Most of them surprisingly did not even have a bent crankshaft or heavily damaged blade. However I don’t know if the blades were replaced afterwards. I haven’t seen it happen to a Toro or older craftsman no matter how abused they were. Just my personal experience

    Just fixed a mower last week where the owner hit a chunk of concrete the yard and it bent the blade and sheared the two pins on the blade adaptor. Fortunately the crank did not get bent, so a new blade, new blade adaptor, and a new blade bolt (old one had boogered threads from the incident) and the mower was back up and going with just $40 worth of parts.

  • @norge696
    @norge696 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    for anyone who replaces a flywheel key, make sure it's a genuine part and/or made out if aluminum. it's meant to shear and should be made of a softer metal.
    As far as bent crankshafts, it's best to buy a new mower or engine. sometimes the metal is poorly heat treated, I have seen the shaft completely snap off before. better safe than sorry.

    My electric lawn mower suddenly started vibrating and making a loud noise. I never hit anything. Mower was running smooth and I stopped to empty the bag and all hell broke loose when I immediately restarted it. The blade WAS somewhat worn... I removed the blade and restarted to see if that was the problem. It remained loud and vibrated without a blade installed and there was NO visible wobble on the crankshaft. My mower doesn't appear to have a flywheel at all, and no, it's not missing... there is no space or groove for one. What is the problem??
