I'm on the search for the first time now. I've just completed a doc and am starting the process. I've produced many projects but his is the first time I've led the efforts to sale to markets. Yikes!
I’d like to become a film sales agent. How do I break into the industry? My background is commission sales, Human Resources and Director of Marketing & Community Relations for Chevrolet & Cadillac.
Glad to have found this channel. I've just completed a seven year documentary and am now trying to navigate the distribution waters. I have years of producing and directing experience but the distro is all new. I appreciate the info!
Great video! I found you bc everyone is asking me to be their agent. I was asked 4 times today alone. I just like helping people lol I wasn’t expecting to ever google this
The best way to find a good one is: a) look at their catalogue, this will tell you about the types of films they represent. It's a good reflection of the type of company they are as well; and b) speak to producers who have worked with them. You can do this simply by looking at their catalogue of films, finding the producers on IMDb and reaching out. Try to speak with 2-3 producers.
You can use industry directories to find them. If you google 'Screen Australia sales agents' you'll find a solid list. They don't charge you a fee, the will either pay you an advance and take a commission, or not pay you an advance and take a commission. Whether they pay an advance comes down to the strength of your project
@@AlexiOuzas thank you so much. I love all your informative videos. I learn so much. I have 3 scripts and one I just fully completed. Trying to get out there and see what happens.
@@AlexiOuzas would like to learn about how can I get my first script sold and all the steps I would have to go through. I am a otr truck driver and have fun doing it but this is not my passion. I love writing and hopefully one day to be able to write, produce and direct a movie 🎥
Yes. The issue is that it's harder to attach one at script stage with budgets under $500k, due to the perception that films with that level of budget are under-resourced and will lack the requisite production value to sell (a position I don't necessarily agree with). If the film is completed, budget becomes less relevant as the film is judged on its merit.
Thanks for watching! Who is your dream Sales Agent to work with?

Hi Alexi, thank you for sharing this valuable information. Do you have any tips for the first-time director team to find a good sales agent?

Wonderful video but what I would really like to know is what companies have sales agents?
The company that holds the intellectual property in the film, usually the production company
Hi, can I hire a sales agent if I've only completed the treatment letter? Thanks
You need either a screenplay during financing, or at least a picture lock during post-production
Would you bring a sales agent in for budgets under $500k?
Yes. @@AlexiOuzas Do you recommend trying to attach one for an under $500k budget at the script stage, or just go straight to the distributors?
