Fun fact: Laovaan let me paint the first seconds of this video with the mission "Try to ruin this painting as much as you can" so he could do some fixing afterwards :D
so the first painting is yours
well done still
I love to know it!
It's terrible! Good job with making a good example! :D
That would actually be a good idea for him to do
That’s cute and fun indeed.
That was such a beautiful painting of Connor. Number 4 really called me out 👀 I have to learn how to wait for paint to dry
Sameee!
Once its a little less wet you can use a hair drier to dry it faster
I had that happen the other day, hadn’t realised it was still a bit wet.
That was a really nice Connor painting. I really like blue toned drawings and hate how school ruins my schedule for watching art vids...
Back to a good old watercolor tutorial again :D
I hope you find this video helpful and let me know if you have any questions x)
For the next videos I already have some plans * -* the next one will probably be about an expensive art tool, can you guess what it could be :D?
Laovaan Thank you so much! Ive been an artist for years but shied away from watercolors for a while. I am finally seeing results and it's thanks to your videos :) blessings and thank you again!
Thanku m8 really helped ,
Btw do water colour cakes loose any of their good things when they get old? (I HV been using the same cakes for 3 to 4 yrs and now I want to take it serious)
Also which water colour would u recommend which are cheap and good
Lastly how do u use colour pencils in ur painting (may be a video idea).......Which of the colour pencils are good as well as mid range cheap?
Dude u r awesome
Thanks so much for this great video! I really like the style of your videos, educational with a funny/meme side :D Keep it up!
Have you done any videos about urban drawing or architecture?
Laovaan I have a question about the drying process.
How many minutes or seconds should I wait until the water dries out? I saw a video on painting skin when you mention you used a light wash before going in with the desired color with not too much water. I notice you are patient when you paint the skin by letting it dry first.
hhhh filthy frank was the last thing I expected
Ikrrrrr hope laovaan does a full piece on him😍😍
The moment you realise that in one video laovaan thaught you more than 4years with your art teacher
Also 7:55 this is extremely satisfying
Haha soo true!!
Exactly the reason I love water watercoloring
It problably because he actually takes a few more seconds to explain things a little more, and give examples as to how it can be done and errors to avoid. Most art teachers give u an art supply, do minimal explaining and let u go. Of course the point of art schools is to let u try out and expand. maybe try new art supplies u've never done before. So its great to learn/use art supplies uve never touched, but without a good understanding can result in dislike for a supply due to confusion and it doesnt help when u ask for advice and they just say keep trying or give incomplete info. I get learning, but its hard to want to learn a supply when u dont know what up with it or whats wrong.
I tend to rely on youtube (dont have money for skillshare really.) As most of the people understand and try to make sure they note things beginners stuggle with. Again good to try lots of supplies not the best on how to use them or get tips on them for.
Your watercolor skills are AMAZING!!! and your art is AWESOME as well!!!!
Thank you! You inspired me to try watercolor and as someone completely new to art I find this kind of videos extremely helpful. Keep up the great work!
You’re the best art teacher I’ve ever had. I’ve watched TH-cam videos for years, but yours are the only ones that completely make sense to me and make me feel confident that I understand things. Please continue making watercolor tutorials!
bless you for the tips and for making Xiumin beautiful
Thank you so much ! Your watercolor tutorials are always so helpful. I definitely find myself guilty of some of those mistakes. Now, I know what I have to work on.
Thank you for this, I am trying to transition between being thoroughly proficient in oils and struggling in Water colour...this tutorial has really helped
I admire u wasting your art supplies to teach us fools. I appreciate u! 😭❤
really nice watercolor of Connor from detroit 1:52. Somehow i miss that one but I love the colors, the eyes are sparkling
Nice tip on mixing versus pushing pigment together!
So much attention to details and sound effects :D great video and great jokes as always ❤
Thank you, I already knew most of this from school but watching those watercolour paintings suddenly made me wanting to do it again. I used to dread watercolour a lot because I'm not the most patient person and even though my teacher tried to tell me otherwise, I was still convinced in my last year that I sucked.
That painting of Connor though. Very exquisite and well done♥️♥️♥️
Loved the bit about pure (or was it just single) pigments. I’ve seen a comment like that before, possibly the same one and thought it made sense, still your spiral was hilarious.
You built a spark of hope in me..! In my college, I am expected to know all kinds of painting...i always sucked at water coloring but now you have empowered me and I'm not going to give up
I could just listen to your voice. It’s mesmerising. That aside massive thankyous for such informative and easy to follow tutorials. You are a genius with water colour.
I am beginning to paint with watercolors and I love your videos, I have understood many things about watercolor that I did not know ...
I didn’t know about the difference between synthetic and natural brushes. It was very helpful
It really helped me out! Thanks. I also loved ur drawing of urself in the video XD
Thank you so much! I realised I did the mixing instead of blending and I was way too impatient. Thank you, because of you someone who thought I couldn't possibly do art well gave me some hope and I think I might be able to improve!
Thank you so much. #4 and 5 is what I was struggling with. I like doing large pieces. So excited to see what I can create now that I have a better understanding. I love your portraits and awesome videos!
Thank you for making this video, it really helps me a lot with how apparently I need to focus on the watercolours. And also, I see a Chloe and a Connor there, so welcome to the fandom anytime!
Awesome video! And really, some very important tips! What I would like to add to the last point, the brushes, there are great synthetic brushes, which have extreme water capacity, like the da Vinci Casaneo and raphael soft aqua! For me they are a great alternative to sable, because they are not only vegan//at least not made from dead animals, and usually a bit cheaper! I can paint like everything i wish with a size 6 or 8 casaneo, both the details and bigger areas!
What I love about Laovaan's videos is that he always manages to make me laugh, as well as impress me with such skill. I can get images to look realistic with my camera!
Omg those examples were absolutely stunning!! 😮
It's like you can read my mind. I just started with watercolor and really needed a video like this. Thankfully my mom paints with watercolor, so I've seen her paint and my mistakes aren't as bad as they could be.
You have an amazing voice. Your techniques are equally good and easy to follow. Thankyou
Sometimes I feel like you are a wizard 😃. I always get to learn so much from you 😃. I observe your videos and try to implement all the techniques myself 😃. You keep me motivated all the time 😃. I am about to hit 500 subs .... And these small achievements make me feel so happy 😃.
I love this, thank you! I'm a begginer and these tips are great. Love from Czechia! 💙💖
Thank you so much!!! I don't really like to paint with watercolors because i'm so impatient and is so hard, but this video helped me so much!!!
i'm just starting to learn a little about watercolor, and i'm so grateful for you videos
You've just answered every question I had about watercolor with this video.
Even if I'm still no good and I watch lots of tutorials, yours are my favourites. You're so good at explaining things and give me mptivation to try more. Thanks!
MY BOI CONNOR YES
Thank you sooo much for this video! It made me laugh and brightened my day!😊 It's a wonderful reminder on what not to do while I paint. Hehe it's been a while since I've painted anything, but I have been able to dabble in painting recently. Thank you again! It was very encouraging! 😁
I needed this. I just got some water colors, and paper. I have used them before, but have been wanting to REALLY get into it.
Really loved the video! I have always been a fan of yours and tried to paint portraits but could never got values right and always got my paintings to be muddy. This helped a lot! Thanks
I was very uncertain and waited a full year before I started my first watercolour illustration.
I painted and trained myself to get better with shades. And my first painting is almost done! I'm still developing my style, but I'm very good with blending and choosing the colours.
my biggest nemesis is waiting for paint to dry. lol
And that's when the hairdryer becomes the hero
I just started using watercolor pencils. i´m having a blast with them. Liked this video a lot
BEST WATERCOLOR TUTORIAL EVERRRRRRR!! Ur the best!
thanks for helping me realize that I always fuck up due to starting too dark! You rock Laovaan :D
really awesome video! The way you explained and showed everything is really helpful! GJ
The summary of this video is be patient when you let the water with the desired color dry first. After it has been fully dried you can go back, and add light wash of water that allows you to go back, and continue painting with the same color you used. Additionally, I notice Laovaan showed a good example of what blending should look like for example, a gradient wash of the same color. In comparison mixing colors is when you mix two colors to get the desired color. For example you mix yellow and blue to get the color green.
Yet, if you want to achieve the blending technique. Re wind and observe how Laovaan blends the colors. This shows that you need to achieve that gradient look by blending out the color from dark to light.
I would suggest beginners to watch video on color theory, and apply what you know from this video to get an idea of how shadows work in the real world. You can use any color as long you know what colors you want for your painting. Another suggestion is practicing on blending, and do a completely different one on what color mixing is for example, purple and red creates magenta. Since you need to use more red to achieve that color. But for blending it is different from color mixing.
Wow, gorgeous😍😍. You are very well and clearly told.
this is so helpful i will definitely keep this in my mind every time i paint or draw with water color pencils
Perfect and useful. I'm new to watercolor and I'll definitely take these into consideration.
Great video and tutorial,We used to find that you had to be reasonably quick in your progress when working with watercolor, and particularly quick when trying to fix mistakes,However we have probably been starting to dark to begin with.Really helpful video and Cheers from Australia
I'm guilty of #4 and #5. I still occasionally make #2 and #3 but I'd like to think I'm getting better at recognizing when I'm running into the risk of making them.
I have always found your tutorials very helpful, even your speedpaints are helpful because I always learn a lot from your techniques.
Thank you so much for making this, because there were a lot of things which I didn't actually know I was doing wrong or not doing at all :D
This was super helpful as I come over my fear of water color. I really need to dive into then, and get my pieces painted (2 pieces)
awwww Xiumin ~ i loved it !
I am so excited to paint skin with watercolor thanks to you Laovaan. You have really inspired me. I also LOVE your art so much. Cant wait for the next video
these bad versions of paintings have got me crying. why would you do this to me? lol i'm dying
That was most helpful and explains all the mistakes that come from doing watercolour 😂 tysm!
Actually.. I really like when the watercolors get splotchy like that. It fits my style
Oml I love your art and voice ✨
Thank you so much, this is really helpful and informative! As someone trying to branch out to different media, your videos are a great resource, and I love your art style. I'm getting back into watercolours because of your content, super inspiring. :)
Thank you for these videos!! They are so helpful for me as I am a beginner artist and I want to paint with watercolor. ❤❤ thanks!
Wow, you’re a really talented artist!
The way to explain is very wonderful and your drawing is also wonderful 😩♥️.... Why have not you reached one million followers on TH-cam so far? 🤦🏻♀️💔💔💔
there are no mistakes in any technic of art, just new discoveries that takes you to a new world of creation, what is a mistake in the mind of an artist by the way? if someone is happy making art then there is nothing you have to avoid, keep creating!
You're so talented and I love everything you create. I hope to grow my skills to your level soon 😍
I really like how you added your own examples to this video. Very educating! Im giving this video a like :)
Idk you, just found this video in recommendations. But when you painted Connor I LOST it I love DBH sm
Love the tutorial, and the music!! Thank you (and Echo) for making these :)
CONNOR MY BOY!! I love Detroit become human. I was not expecting this, you've blessed me.
Very helpful tips. Thank you, much love for you and your channel
That Connor from Detroit become human painting put a smile on my face :”)
A qualety video whit good tips, tho im to afraid to try them watercolers and dont mix, still if i ver try will kep this in mind . As allways good work 😍😍
I think being impatent is my biggest fault in painting 😔
Same
I'm impatient in everything that comes with art
So I have to fix that, but I just want to see the masterpiece come out in 2 minutes and move onto the next one
This video was so incredibly helpful as I was making all these mistakes!! Thank you!
Amazing, helpful and funny video as always. Keep up with the good work! ♡
I don't know if it's a good tip but when I was looking for a bigger watercolor brush, a lady at the art store gave me a Chinese calligraphy one and said "it's just as good and twice cheaper". I've been using it a lot and I must admit that it absorbs a lot of water, so it lets me cover big areas evenly and I would recommend it to someone with thinner budget 😝
Shopping for art supplies too true 😂. I bought quite a few colours but narrowed down to pigments that are more transparent
Thank you so much Laovaan, great tutorial.
These tips are super helpful I love them!!
Super hilfreiches Video mit vielen lustigen Detail! Toll editiert :D War sicher aufwendig. Aber, das hat gelohnt. ^_^
you are an angel! thanks for this. also, i see xiumin and i'm SCREAMING
thank you so much! I've been drawing for my whole life, but when it comes to painting, I mess up really quickly, am impatient, try to fix everything by adding more water and paint or sucking the water out with a tissue, and just ruin the whole thing.
I don't know why but i think the third picture he was painting was of (FROM EXO) xiumin😁
I WAS LOOKING FOR THIS COMMENT BC I COULDN'T BE THE ONLY ONE WHO SAW IT. I'M SURE IT WAS HIM
Saaame ^^
He was, it was on his instagram
It is Xiumin! He drew him as a commission :)
THIS IS THE COMMENT I WAS LOOKING FOR
I would buy a watercolor book from you any day!
you're amazing !! and a very talented artist. Cheers from Argentina
Great tutorial! Thank you very much
so helpful!! thank you!! ❤️
Richtig geil gefilmt, man hat einfach jeden Punkt, den Du erklärt hast, gut verstanden und ich bin direkt inspiriert und möchte jetzt was mit diesen Tipps machen !:-)) Danke für deine Videos!!:D
Wow this must have taken forever to make. Well done!!
Thanks a lot for the tips, very helpful.
Btw, I couldn't use natural hair brushes, keeping in mind animal suffering. So I only use synthetic. If my art suffers a bit, oh well.
Amazing, thank you for the tips
This was so helpful! Thanks!
Thank you! Really helpful!!
This is very very helpful. Thanks for making this video.
Impatience is definitely my biggest mistake. I would like to know how you harmonize the shadows in your watercolor portraits so that the ink stains are barely evident?
Thank you for your tips !
