I like the way you did it!!! Because its not "do this technique and not this one because its just a stupid look" its more focused on "know what youre working with and what your goal is, using how your tools react and affect things to your advantage"!
I love how instead of focusing on "this is how I do it so it's a Do", you instead presented properties that you can use to your advantage, depending on what style youre going for. Also have you always added this much comedy and quirk in your videos?
A good rule of thumb for people starting out with watercolors, the order of importance in choosing materials is: 1. Paper 2. Brush 3. Paint If you have the opportunity, it's okay to start out with an okay paint, pretty good brush, and the best paper you have access to. Artist paints on flimsy paper will just make you cry
Those little clips thrown in where you’re looking at the memes kind of remind me of those infomercials you see for useless inventions, where the actors are being all overdramatic. That said, this tutorial was pretty useful. Thank you.
Deutsch? We have subtitles! (this only works on your computer though) Click the gear icon in the lower-right corner of the video. Select "subtitles", then "auto-translation" and choose your language.
Just tested it, Portuguese is definitely available. Make sure you've turned on subtitles first. That's the button left to the gear icon which for me says [CC]. Then, when you click on the gear icon, you should see "Speed", "Subtitles" and "Quality". Click subtitles, then "Auto-Translation" and scroll down to Portoguese. The list is alphabetical so you will have to scroll a bit. Let me know if this helps :) PS: I wish TH-cam would make this feature a little easier to find and advertise is properly
This is probably THE only useful "dos and donts" video ive ever watched, and it's very useful to both beginners and experienced artists! Thank you for this
please make more watercolor mistakes to avoid! i know most of these already but that's because i've been painting for over a month now and learned a lot through my short journey, the other do's and don'ts of watercolors aren't like this, yours is very in depth and unique and very very important to beginners!
this is amazing, usually artists do these kind of videos so incredibly vaguely that they never really help, but this was so helpful, and i feel like i was learning rather than being lectured at for my mistakes!
Oh my goodness i was laughing so much during this video! lmao! So awesomely put together. Thank you so much for making these, I'm extremely new to watercolor and I only got into it because of you! You are my goal and I love your art so much. Keep up the amazing work!
This is a pretty good example of do's and don'ts. I've seen a lot of stylised do's and don'ts which i don't really agree with and a lot of the time i end up liking the 'don'ts' more than the actual do's. These are actual helpful tips more guided to help you use your medium to more effect rather than about style, and that's super helpful. I didn't even know about granulation before this.
This is one of the best "do's and dont's" in water color I've seen. Explaining the outcome of each "Don't" and showing how to test for yourself makes the information far more useful than "just don't do this." Also using tape to create swatches is genius and I'm mad I haven't thought of it. Also the anime laaovan is adorable and I'd love to see a whole series of this. I'd pay good money for that art tutorial series. You're a natural teacher!
this is hands down the best video I've ever seen on watercolor technique. I paint with watercolor fairly often but had no idea wth was going on with the granulation. Or that the pigment dictates how erasable a color is. I never see that stuff mentioned. THANK YOU!!!
This was very helpful! Thanks! I like that it was more of a presentation of different options and things to know, rather than hard and fast dos and donts.
Thank you for making this! I normally don't like do and don't videos because they over simplify things. But you are clearly a very experienced watercolor artist and it came across in this video. You explained everything very well and it was super helpful! Thank you!
Finally a video about watercolor that isn't just a tutorial for people who never painted with watercolor before! Nice job :3 And omg the character is so cute ^.^
I really like how you addressed the limitations of those Do's and Don'ts discussions. With that said, this is a very informative video. I prefer watercolour over Acrylic painting, but during school I learned very quickly how difficult to work with it can become.

These were so helpful! I have watched tons of other vids giving advice but they did not explain anything as easily as your tips! Perfect.. I know so much more just from this vid. Thanks.
Thank you for these very helpful tips. I am a beginner to watercolor and I have watched many how-to videos and Do and Don'ts. Your video gave me more information on the different paints and how they work. Also paper information on the reasons why they are different. What I appreciated the most is that you give the whys something is the way it is and how to use it.
The thing I like about this channel is that it is informative in a way that actually walks you through intuitively how to do things, whilst be entertaining. Like, the art styles on this channel are incredible and unique, and there is a large side portion of memes?
Everything in this video is art, all your art is beautiful even if it's a don't, the animations give more personality, especially the monotone face palm moments and the tutorial is super helpful! I think I've learnt more than what my old art teacher has thought me.
This was wonderful, thank you. :) Your work is a great inspiration and reference for me, and although I'd figured out a few of these by myself already, it's always nice to solidify things. I'd love more of these! Have a nice week, Laovan!
Thank you so much for this. I'm currently in AP Art and after being introduced to watercolor only last year, I've taken a liking to it. I've basically taught myself through trial and error, so I tend to still make many mistakes. I've been stressed out over perfecting my skill and this was the perfect video to help me.
This video actually helped me. I love watercolor, but sometimes I find it so hard to use. Thank you so much for uploading this. I love your work, by the way!
I can't stop rewatching this. I love the part where u say "making it God dann hard" i just love that. But this helped me greatly and especially the one that helps with the realistic look which is what I was looking for
Really liked this way of doing a “dos and donts” I’m someone who likes to use the effects of using a medium “wrong” and so often these videos bug me. However, this one just felt infomative
Danke!
I really loved the video and the animation! Sometimes I have the craving of painting with watercolors but sometimes I forget some special 'watercolors' tecniques. Watercolors are like a little tyrannical, they do not allow you to make mistakes. But it's well worth it if the result is like your works! Thanks for the advices! Very useful!!!
I think it's a super nice way to help others, dictating what to do or not can take away from the creative process. what's a no for one artist can be the biggest do for the next and it's refreshing to see a different approach! I'd still love to know what kind of tape you use. I tried a few and they always ruin my paper upon removal or they won't stick to it as soon as I use water.
Thank you so much! I'm relativly new to watercolours and this helped me a lot. Sadly, I can't really afford different paper or different kind o' watercolours, but at least I'll know now that (at least to some part) it's not me but my material. Personally, I'm not sure what to think of Do's and Don'ts. Often they fail to actually teach something, and especially as a beginner you feel like all they are saying is "Do it pretty, not ugly". And in the process of learing how to draw/finding you style there are a lot of stages, and they all are important. A beginner will draw differently than someone who's been doing art for a long time, and it's completly normal and important that they do. Do's and don'ts often don't acknowledge that. However, yours was pretty good! Probably because you did not talk about how (as in what) to paint, but provided general information about the material, which is important no matter whether you're a beginner or not, and no matter how you express yourself stylistic wise. Again, thank you a lot!
This video was really helpful! In my self guided art class I'm working solely with water colors this semester and this video was so useful since I'm on my own for figuring these things out. Thank you for making it and for being just a generally awesome person :3
I like the new style of these videos!! And also, I think this video was really helpful!! I love watercolors but sometimes it's really frustrating and I think these tips will definitely help!
I don't usually like the Do's- and Don't's type of videos, because art is subjective and blah blah but this was really insightful and useful!! I definitely learned stuff. Thank you!
I learned something new when it comes to using tissue to control water and granulating paints. I've always been a bit wary of wasting paper practicing but I think I will give it more of a go now that I have a light box to transfer sketches with. I'm a messy sketcher lol. XD Thank you so much for the video.
Thank you SO much for all your tips and tricks! I've started applying your techniques to my paintings, and everything is so much EASIER! Bless you, sir. ❤️
Very encouraging and informative! I think do's and don't videos are helpful so long as u don't take them as the be all end all and still experiment, practice, and learn through experience.
Holy shit! I can't believe how well this video was made! It was definitely the best and most helpful video about watercolour I've ever seen AND it still was so funny that I was crylaughing at some point in the video. I've started to use watercolour a few months ago and being completely new to the medium, this video contained all the information I needed and really helped me out! I also really liked your little character and the memes (there can never be enough memes :D). You can really see all that work that has been put into this! I love it!

Bob Ross I cracked up 😂
Bob Ross XD OMG STOP

Bob Ross Hi Bob! Love your work!

Loving the sound effects when Laovaan said 'Foreveeeer' ..... foreshadowing of doom is strong! gave me goosebumps. :D
Pixie Mixieheart He can make you feel like: Hold my brush, it's about to go down.
Love the anime character
That thing is annoying and not needed
@@terrythomas790 most people don't think that
@@tori4770 Thats ok. I do, Its actually stupid. What does that have to do with watercolors??
@@terrythomas790 chill dude..
The thing is, people like avatars. That's all there is to it.
Redstone
WHaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!! This video is so well done! I LOVE your anime avatar SO MUCH!
Watercolor tips, memes, an anime laovaan and a beautiful irl laovaan... This video is everything I ever wanted
You are so adorable omg I want to hug you xD also, thank you very much for this video, it’s very helpful. :)

Quality content
This is probably THE only useful "dos and donts" video ive ever watched, and it's very useful to both beginners and experienced artists! Thank you for this
I’m glad you posted this because I got into watercolor recently, and was looking for helpful videos literally yesterday

that don't in the thumbnail is way better than my drawing
Shiraayuki shhh

Dude! These are some great, really useful tips! Thank you!
Also, your little semi-animated avatar is the bomb, I love him
This was very helpful!
Thank you!
I really enjoyed hearing you talk about the paper the most.
your video editing skills are getting so much better and more FUN!!!!
Finally a video about watercolor that isn't just a tutorial for people who never painted with watercolor before!

I love your accent so much i usually don’t listen to many voiceover art videos but your voice makes it so engaging
literally the best do and donts watercolor video ive seen on the internet, thanks laovaan!
These were some of the best tips I've found online. Very clear and straight forward. Very good video!
I really like how you addressed the limitations of those Do's and Don'ts discussions. With that said, this is a very informative video. I prefer watercolour over Acrylic painting, but during school I learned very quickly how difficult to work with it can become.

I have always struggled with watercolor, this Vid really helps :)
Thank you for these very helpful tips. I am a beginner to watercolor and I have watched many how-to videos and Do and Don'ts. I already watched this but I’m rewatching because I find that little animation oc absolutely incredibly adorable
Best video about watercolor tips I ever watch (and I have seen many of them).
I've been relatively experienced in watercolor but those properties at the beginning were really helpful to know. Thanks for the awesome video!
Great video, very fun to watch 👍🏻 I’d say dos and donts are quite effective for grabbing attention, structuring advice, and being constructive.
The thing I like about this channel is that it is informative in a way that actually walks you through intuitively how to do things, whilst be entertaining. Like, the art styles on this channel are incredible and unique, and there is a large side portion of memes?
You are so talented and your voice is so calming. This channel is my new favorite thing
Your watercolours are so beautiful. I find it very moving to look at them.
I really appreciate the information about the graininess of different brands of paint. Never thought of that! Great tip, very helpful.👍
Everything in this video is art, all your art is beautiful even if it's a don't, the animations give more personality, especially the monotone face palm moments and the tutorial is super helpful! I think I've learnt more than what my old art teacher has thought me.

The animated version of you is great, love it. 😁 Also, great tips as well.
This is soooo helpful! Thank you very much once more!! Your explanations are always very clear and objective :D ☆ (btw you're still too handsome bye~)
this video was so useful!! and i loved your characters animation throughout it!!
Master, from your mouth it all sounds so simple. But I know how hard it is. Your lessons will not be forgotten. I have to try too!
Thank you so much for this. I'm currently in AP Art and after being introduced to watercolor only last year, I've taken a liking to it. I've basically taught myself through trial and error, so I tend to still make many mistakes. I've been stressed out over perfecting my skill and this was the perfect video to help me.
Respekt
This video actually helped me. I love watercolor, but sometimes I find it so hard to use. Thank you so much for uploading this. I love your work, by the way!
Never has a watercolor video been more useful!
I have watched several of your videos ...they have really helped me with getting smooth beautiful skin tones. Thank you so much for that!!
This was very helpful and pleasant to watch. You covered some points that other videos didn't, at least those that I've watched.
YOUR PAINTINGS ARE GORGEOUS 😭😭😭
Danke!

Very nice basics tutorial! Also I loved the kakariko village painting

Thank you!! These were especially helpful, specifically the tips on painting skin.
Everytime you sit down to look at your sketchbook and cry afterwards, it really hits home.
This is the first top 5 mistakes in watercolor i find really useful :O thank you for sharing!
Great video! I love the format and the small jokes on it. Keeping it at my favorites.
Can you make a detailed video on which tools you use,
Thank you, Loavaan
This video was really helpful! In my self guided art class I'm working solely with water colors this semester and this video was so useful since I'm on my own for figuring these things out. Thank you for making it and for being just a generally awesome person :3
Cute video! Very helpful! I like how you give tips to certain mistakes! Thank you!
I like the new style of these videos!! And also, I think this video was really helpful!! I love watercolors but sometimes it's really frustrating and I think these tips will definitely help!
Laovaan, this video was phenomenal!! 💜
These tips are fantastic! I wish my teacher had taught this in art class. I wouldn't have been so frustrated when trying to use watercolors!
OMGTHIS VIDEO IS SO GREAT AND SO USEFULL!!!! So much work put into it!
Thanks a lot for explaining the differences of paper! I was struggling because sometimes I want quite smooth paper but I didn‘t know what to look for.
I'm in love with your work! Seriously!
I don't usually like the Do's- and Don't's type of videos, because art is subjective and blah blah but this was really insightful and useful!! I definitely learned stuff. Thank you!
Great videos, love your work. Achieving such subtleties in watercolour is amazing. Laovaan you are a master at your craft.
excellent information...... specially the concept granulated paint pigments.... I had no idea
I love this format 😻 great tips and nice presentation 👍
Wow, this is the most amazing tutorial I’ve ever seen. You are AMAZING! Thank YOU 🙏
I learned something new when it comes to using tissue to control water and granulating paints.
I really enjoy this tutorial-ish video. You're tips are also very helpful. Thank you😊
Wow, I've been just experimenting and teaching myself how to use watercolors, so this was very helpful!
