I’ve always hesitated to try FF14 because of the monthly subscription model. I’m mildly interested after hearing this is free to play without gatcha, but as someone else said, I feel so bitter as a KH fan. 😭
Honestly like, the free trial right now is HUGE in terms of content it offers (base game and two whole expansions??), even if you do nothing but speedrun the main story point A to B, you lose literally nothing for trying it! That said, if they are actually committed to making this a streamlined recreation of A Realm Reborn for mobile, this could be a really good entry point for new players as well.
@ I’ve only got time for a few hours a week to play games. Speedrunning is not an option for me. To illustrate: I’ve been playing Metaphor Re:fantazio since the day it came out and I’m still at Martina. I just don’t have a lot of free time.

Omg no way! I haven't activated my account for a few years now as its a life sucker. I try to keep it for winter time if anything. I do miss it tho. Such a fun game, especially if you have a friend/partner playing on their own console right next to you. Id be white mage or scholar and my partner would be tank. Im incredibly eager for Missing Link tho! Its killing me that they havent really said anything about it lately besides the delay. But im ok if developers need to delay their product. We've seen too many times when a game is rushed out the door and is awful on launch. I really just need more Kingdom Hearts story
Very strange that they decided to just co-develop a mobile-only clone rather than try and port the PC version to mobile. It took RuneScape a very long time, but they managed to get OSRS and RS3 running on mobile, and you get the same experience as on PC, but with mobile-friendly controls. It's all one account, do something on PC and pick up where you left off on mobile. It's VERY nice on a tablet. I'm not a FF14 player, but I really can't imagine investing any time into the mobile version if I'll be permanently locked into that platform. If I get super invested in the content and the story, I will want the option to jump on PC and get the benefit of full KB+M controls, not to mention the current playerbase, communities, etc that the PC version has already built.
That would be a very risky and dumb choice for square because obviously the reason or at least on of many reasons why they release xiv on mobile is because square want to gain even more players especially for those who have difficult problem paying xiv subscription
As a KH Fan and even bigger FF fan (having over 7000 h locked into XIV in the past 11 years), I am way more exited for Missing Link. Its just something new. XIV mobile can be nice but I would prefer KH mobile

but i mostly agree, our ARR days are long behind us idk if you played thru that more than once too, but i have no desire to relive it at this point. lol but i do think FF14m will be good for newer ppl. they can do a story skip to HW and play this instead to save time. lol
Gonna be honest, as an outsider I was really hoping for a revamped version of XIV 1.0 so it wouldn’t feel like I’ve lost any context going into 2.0, it feels like lost media at this point.
I will say this, I do think FFXIV may have the potential to stay in the mobile market the longest if the gameplay is as good as the PC/Console version of it. Not only that, But I can see them eventually porting their expansions onto the mobile version of the game with time. And how I'm seeing this... Pay To Play is currently at Dawntrail. Free To Play is at Stormblood. Mobile will be at ARR. And if my theory is correct and say we do get this next year, maybe 1 year from release of Dawntrail. The routine will be like this, Every 2 years we do manage to get a FFXIV Expansion on average, Right before the next expansion, The F2P Trail users will be getting their next expac (Shadowbringers aka the best story ever told), Then we will get the next expansion after Dawntrail and then a year after that we will get Heavensward on mobile. This is just my theory how we can potentially see the releases going forward unless Dawntrail somehow gets extended and the next expac gets delayed like what happened earlier this year. Also, I really do hope you continue playing FFXIV! Shadowbringers and Endwalker are both really amazing!
Man, once playthrough is enough for me. If it can't synch to our progress in the ff 14 pc version, I honestly don't see the point. I don't want to see those dang Malboros in Aurum Vale again. 💀 Or Titan... 💀💀💀 I also quit at the end of shadowbringers because I lost my joy for the game. I wasn't able to play the character the way I wanted. And having those subscription costs on top of expansion costs was just nope.

Why would they remake 1.0 which is like... a disaster that's worth its' own spot in the museum of gaming disasters lol Especially considering how little FF14 1.0 actually lasted for before getting shutdown and remade, there's not much story and content in it worth remaking. That said, if you never played the PC game it's probably going to be a really nice opportunity to check it out as a new player.
