I have increased my purchases from Amazon in the last 5 years. Parts access with cheap prices for my customers cannot be beat thru them and their vendors. This in turn, keeps my prices down to the customer, and ensures I get more customers. Since I am 1/4 to 1/2 cheaper on labor + parts as dealers ($10 to $15 an hour with no parts cost padding versus a dealer at $50 an hour with triple parts price padding) I can move out customer equipment in 1/8th the time while still adding in full-service of equipment (because I work for myself versus a dealer who doesn't care and skips steps). As of yet, I have only had two misorders on their end in 8 years with hundreds upon hundreds of purchases (and that was the vendor, not Amazon, misreporting product sizes or part numbers).

@@TheCaptainSlappycongratulations on helping perpetuate the problem that Amazon is causing and causing more problems for the workers there and making it harder for them to get equal treatment to real workers who work I'm sure that you saving money and passing it on to your customers is a great way to accumulate for the amount of slave labor that is being done through Amazon whether it's called that for real or not that is what Amazon wants that's why he's so gung-ho for Trump because he wants to hire people for nothing to do his bidding that is all he's ever wanted I've had family members who worked for him and all he wants is you to do his work they've been injured on the job and he said if you walk off the job you are immediately fired people have broken bones their and lost their job because they couldn't finish their shift that's the kind of person you order from someone who says oh you broke your leg I don't care finish doing your job it doesn't matter that you drive a truck and have to walk up to doors and you broke your leg and can't even stand up to get in your truck I don't care get up and do your job and if you don't finish you're fired and that's what your perpetuating is this kind of treatment to people so you're saying this is okay to do to people as long as I get a good price that's what you're saying bye congratulations on bringing back slavery

Even non disabled people who drive seem to use the excuse "well, disabled people need amazon to deliver all their stuff", #1 that is incredibly situational and location based. My disabled friend who can't drive just has her friends (including me) take her shopping when she needs stuff. #2 that's not an excuse for YOU who can drive.

Why is it that capitalists seem to only be able to think of short-term profits? If Amazon was a consistently good place to work they would have no problem hiring people for a short time because it would be a good job to have for a few months and it would make it more likely that you are eventually able to get a permanent job there. If the job is a good one there are no 'labor troubles' and you have employees who value doing a good job instead of the 'fuck-it-all' attitude of someone abused. Besides, why would anyone ever hire someone to work under working conditions that they wouldn't accept themselves?

    • @butterfish-g9f

Part the reason is looking at the people that found and run these ventures. Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerburg and the like can't really interact with most people in a positive way, so it becomes normal to focus on control and manipulation over building any kind of cooperative environment. How can you use other people to put yourself over them indefinitely. Upper class sociopathy also feeds into this dynamic.

Have a feeling no one will carry it cause most all streaming services have a bundle option with Amazon. So everyone has a contract.
So, the only way to push it is to think back to film creators before the digital age and push it that way.
The biggest shame of all of this and I can tell it's the business model that the people hurt by this are the workers and the small business sellers on Amazon. If we all stopped using Amazon, bezos would still be rich, and so would the executives that created the problem. Heck, i remember how many people flocked to Amazon when they opened in Richmond because of pay and benefits. Shortly after hearing the horror stories and yet they continued to grow.
I have no clue what the future will hold, but as long as we have to pinch pennies, to busy or too lazy to go to a store, this business model is here to stay. When the people at the top see Amazon falling apart, they can just cut ties, and another business model will take its place. Watched it happen plenty, and I hope there is a way to stop it.

If their AI was going to replace anyone, why did they let the public touch it?
Why didn’t they just make all the money forever and replace all the jobs?
Here’s another question: Who really stands to gain from AI as a tool? I mean TH-cam can’t sell you more TH-cam videos, Instagram can’t get more users, Apple doesn’t have anything else to offer right now at least not on the level of the Mac or iPhone or iPad.
A business is a vehicle to extract value , but there is only so much value to go around.
Unless you can use AI to extract a liiiiittle more.

And that’s a good thing cause it’s not like either job people wanna do anyway.
The problem is capitalism. That’s why I say they should all be nationalized. And then they can have quarterly fairs for people to find ways to enhance and make the products better for a one time cash prize.

      @butterfish-g9f 8 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

Automation for these types of jobs has already happened. Automated forklifts and giant factory robots galore. Offshoring most factories was the second major shift. The new AI is mostly a threat to jobs that involve sitting in front of a computer all day. You aren't going to see a bunch of androids or robots running around and doing jobs like moving and packing items because it's really complicated and expensive (robot automation requires very little variation or you're going to face catastrophic errors and messes all the time), it's stupid expensive to maintain robots (which is why most companies use robots that are decades old with a couple of new ones in the mix), many robots require the company that made them to do the repairs and provide replacement parts, and a constant throw away model is way cheaper when done to people instead of industrial machines. I used to work with huge industrial robots. They break down all the damn time and every damaged part costs tens of thousands to replace, minimum. It's the reason you don't see robots restocking store shelves. Programming robots to handle thousands of different items of many shapes, materials and dimensions is a nightmare. Even more so when you consider the weekly or seasonal shifts in displays. It can take a year or two to even get robots to function properly on a static line where the only thing that changes is the dimensions of the product. The destroyed product up to that point can fill entire dumpsters every day. Just imagine how much that costs. You have to look at the robot problem from a realistic perspective, not the fiction and hype a lot of current salesmen rely on to boost stock.

It's totally amazing that they were able to form a union.... But where is the group of Amazon workers who are fighting for us, the consumer? They are fighting for themselves, for better wages and better working conditions. But who is fighting the unethical business practices that harm consumers? Who's fighting the high fees, algorithm manipulation, misleading product descriptions, working conditions for the people in other countries who make the products that these warehouse workers pull and ship to us, etc etc? As far as I am concerned, if you work for a company that uses unethical business tactics to keep profits high, then you too are complacent in these tactics. I sincerely hope that they are successful in their strike. Then, if they are really good and ethical people, they will turn around and strike again to fight for the consumer who's money is what is being used to pay their paychecks... But don't worry, I'll not hold my breath for that one.

So basically you only care about them doing more for less money to make your life easier.

Holding amazon accountable is a high priority on all fronts. Unfortunately, protecting the consumer is not on the agenda of the incoming administration. Get ready for the long game. In other words, I think holding big business accountable for worker's rights is an important piece and yes protecting privacy is another
. But when you can not pay your bills that has to come first.

@deamonsoul1 so basically I care about ethics and morals and NOT about the profit margin of one of the richest pricks in the world. I care that the women and children who are working in underdeveloped nations to produce the bullshit the first world pampered people believe they must have, are payed fair wages, work in safe conditions, and have access to healthcare. I care that the products I buy were manufactured in an ethical way. I care about corporations being forced to stop being unethical. Period. The end. I care about destroying the ability of people like bezos to become billionaires in the first place. I do not care about offending people. I do not care about profits. I do not care about the fact that those union workers might not like my opinion that they are complacent in the company they work for screwing all of us over...

@butterfish-g9f that's my point.... The politicians are not doing that job. Therefore it falls to us to enforce ethical business practices. Therefore all people working for large corporations that we all know to be guilty of being unethical are, in fact, complacent in helping to perpetuate those unethical business practices. This is why, though I think it is good for workers to unionize and fight for their wages, and benefits, doing so doesn't absolve them of their part in the unethical treatment of the people who made the products in the warehouse they are striking at. Nor does it absolve the warehouse workers of the part they play in facilitating the use of unethical practices that harm the consumer who is buying those products. I'm always very glad to see workers forcing the company they work for to treat them fairly and ethically... What we need to see, is workers forcing the companies they work for to be ethical all the way around. If you work in a Walmart distribution center here in America, and you get paid 25 dollars an hour with insurance and retirement benefits, but you have those perks because the company you work for pays a ten year old in a sweat shop three cents a day to make the crap you are loading and unloading each day, YOU ARE HELPING WALMART TREAT THAT CHILD LIKE A DISPOSABLE SLAVE! Similarly, if you are a health insurance claims adjuster, and you make sixty grand a year doing so, you are making your money helping a scumbag CEO get rich by letting poor and disabled people suffer and die... The problem with our economic system is that it depends upon people being unethical, and down right malicious to each other... That's the point I am making. And that's what we need to forcibly change.
