Good work. It looks kinda laggy when you’re scrolling. I was thinking about installing this NBT thing but it’s not worth the money plus I guess f10’s infotainment specs aren’t capable of providing smooth experience with CarPlay
It was laggy simply because I was using the phone to film the video while it was connected to the car. Should have used my other camera, but the menu etc. is generally smooth and there is no lag.

On mine, everything works without connecting the AUX. I will have to try Waze and I never use it to see if the speed shows or and report back. Thanks for watching!

Fantastic tutorial - thank you. I purchased the CIC version for my 2012 535, and I see in the instructions to set the dip switch code 7 to OFF which disables the OEM microphone and enables the aftermarket microphone. Do you know if this is an optional setting? The reason I ask is because I would assume I should trust the OEM microphone quality (and positioning) over aftermarket, but if it needs to be switched over, then I will definitely do just that!
Sorry for the late response. On mine it was optional and I selected OEM mics. Maybe the instructions assume you do not have a microphone installed or using the aftermarket one. Test to make sure it works with OEM and use that.
Hi, can you elaborate more on the fact that AUX cable does not have to be plugged in? I am wondering how the audio is connected then to the original BMW system? Somewhere else I found the information that in order to play any music you first have to select AUX media in the BMW system and then switch to CarPlay. So the question here is - does this device sends music in the digital way to BMW audio, or it converts it to the analog first somehow? What about audio quality after the modification? Is it on the same level as streaming audio via Bluetooth to the original BMW system?
The audio is passed through that big cable that goes between the head unit and the wiring loom connector. I THINK it's the CANBUS, which is what also carries the signal. Yes. you have to select AUX in the BMW system to listen to audio coming from CarPlay, but the AUX cable does not have to be plugged in. For the second questions, I don't know for sure. I think it sends it digitally, but the quality isn't as good as streaming as it could be. It's decent, but once you go above a certain volume level, you start hearing a little bit of a hiss.
I bought a unit for my f30 - needless to say I do not recommend it to ANYONE with an f30, there is absolutely no space where you can take in the unit. The cable from the radio to the unit is too short which leaves the driver well or cutting a space on the passenger dash.
You need to remove the glove box to install it on a pre lci f30 or f80 it's a headache but it's worth it. Just remember if you disconnect the airbag by accident you need to just reconnect it and reset the fault code.

Your car should have the CiC unit (Google on how to find the difference), so it will be slightly different. I've updated the link in the description. CiC: 5-Series F10 - 03/2010 - 09/2012 NBT: 5-Series F10/F11/F18 - 09/2012 - 2016
I see you also have the heads-up display on your BMW. When you use the new navigation apps like Google Maps and Waze, does any of the navigation information show up in your heads-up display (that is displayed on your windshield)? For example, in the normal BMW navigation, an upcoming turn shows up in the heads-up display. Or when you use the Google Maps or Waze navigation apps, you don't get any navigation information in the heads-up display anymore?
Unfortunately, it does not. If would be very very cool if it did or if it was customizable in that way, but I don't think many cars have the HUD, so it wasn't programmed in.

Is it anyway to add the ambient light setting to control the color & brightness along with the radio upgrade ( I have the NBT system I believe
Not through CarPlay, but you can always just go back to the original BMW system.
I know that, I was asking if the radio upgrade adds the ambient light brightness function to a car that doesn’t have it oem I have the oem ambient lights tho just not the setting to increase brightness
Or is there any way to do it at all ?, again I have oem ambient lights already
I’d like to do it. But I couldn’t start it
What couldn't you start?
Does it for same bmw f10 5.20d 2012 model ?
Yes, you will just need the CiC version of the add on box (I should have a link in the description)
What is a f10?
That’s the chassis name from BMW that a lot of enthusiasts use to identify the generation of car. So instead of saying, BMW 528, 535, 550 from 2019-2016 you could just say BMW F10.
@@SimpleCarGuy I got confused I thought he was saying f 10 like 10 cylinder like I have in my 2008 M5 thanks for the info man!looks like an upgrade I gotta have I gotta see what the cost is?
I never had connection issues on my android
Does it play video?
Apple CarPlay does not allow video playback, but you can AirPlay your phone to the screen and play whatever you want.
Will it for 2013 535 xdrive ?
Yes, but check which version you need. I believe there was a switch over between 2013 and 2014. When you go to the listing, they show what your screen should look like.
why is this so laggy in your video, it doesnt really work smooth
I was filming with the phone that was connected to the CarPlay. It’s smooth in reality
Very well!
Anyone can I do this to my 2010 528i? What kit do I need?
Looks like you will need the CIC kit
Do we not need to plug in the aux? I saw a bimmer tech video where the guy pulled down even the mic plugged that in and then also ram the aux plug. With your setup how does it work when we receive phone calls. Thanks again
Mine worked perfectly without it. That big plug (CANBUS) provided all the information the unit would need and allows pass through of sound etc.
@@SimpleCarGuy It may be because you have NBT.. I have CIC and am wondering if any CIC users needed to plug in the aux
@@mrlal8Do you get some information about the CIC need AUX?
wow it lags so much
Everything works except for the audio, need help
How much is the unit ?
Please check links in description for current pricing, I paid around $260 if I remember correctly.
I would never let this guy work on my car. Laying that metal unit on the wood and the then moving it around messing with the plugs. That wood should have been covered.
I only work on my own cars, so no worries there!
@@SimpleCarGuy Just busting your chops. That’s a nice install. I’m considering one now. Gotta have CarPlay!
Unforgiveable lag
Hello, boss. I am a Chinese manufacturing company. I watched your videos and found out that you are an expert at reinventing android players. I have a team working on Porsche. Audi, Land Rover, Jaguar, android screen development and sales, so can we have more in-depth communication and cooperation, of course, can we also consider the comparative advantages? Look forward to cooperating with you

To clarify, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are BOTH included with this kit. I just don't have an Android device to test.
If you have an older BMW, you will need one of these:
BMW NBT CarPlay: ebay.us/K1sgVU (~2014-2016)
BMW CiC CarPlay: ebay.us/vZUjv9 (~2008-2013)
BMW CCC CarPlay : ebay.us/DfKoAf (~2003-2008)
Thanks mate. Do you have a video for x5 2009 e70?
I don’t, but it would be similar. You’d just have to get the correct box for your car. It’s CiC navigation on your car if I’m not mistaking.
Can you please share the link where I can buy it from? Thanks
Check the links in the description. Or are you asking for a CiC link?
@@SimpleCarGuy I’m asking if you can share the link where you bought yours from.
So laggy
Lags...
It was laggy in part of the video because I was filming with the phone that was connected to the CarPlay. It’s not laggy normally.
