It was such a shock to see Jan in a REAL House, and not in a barn or tractor! Plus, I can just hear Dad, back in Canada, "DONT SIGN ANYTHING!" You know he's just seeing $$$$!
I was stationed in San Francisco for a couple of years in the Navy. I agree with Samuel Clemmons when he said, 'The coldest winter I ever endured, was a summer in San Francisco.' Of course, it wouldn't stand up to winter in Canada, but to us southern country boys northern California can be cold. Thanks for your posts.
Glad to see you have the opportunity to get away for a Business Trip / Vacation. I enjoy seeing all the "high tech" equipment. Well done. 🚜 🚜 🚜🐄🐄🐄🐄 🚜 🚜 🚜
I was at Calgary airport during January, I was in Banff snowboarding! I really love Canada and I have also made some Canadian friends as well. Greetings from NE Scotland 🏴
Hey Jan! You look like you are really enjoying your trip!! You look so relaxed and rested! Thanks for taking us along. It is always nice to see you and spend a little time with you. Take care and keep the videos coming!
Welcome to sunny California!! Yeah, we are having unusually warm (really hot) weather for this time of the year! Hope you had a great time visiting!! How long was your "wish list" when you left? LOL!!
Thanks for the video. Loved seeing that little peak at your house. I would really like to see a tour of your home and see what you do when you are not working at the dairy. Thank you!
Hey Jan! I watch all your videos from here in Oregon. You have made me fall in love with cows. It was so nice getting to see you outside your farm recreating. Enjoy your stay in the USA.
Great video! I live outside Los Angeles 150 miles away from where from Tulare but over the years got to know some farmers in the Central Valley, who were the most amazing people. I have seen a sign by the freeways that says, “Food grows where water flows.” The drought here in California affects us all, especially farmers. I’m guessing your Dad would be interested in your video to see all the new and latest equipment.
As a cal resident there's a tense relationship between the rest of the state and many farmers who claim they are short on water when in reality the industry uses 90% of the state's water and many don't have to go through the same water restrictions during droughts. Not to mention they are being dragged kicking and screaming to get drip systems vs flooding fields and traditional systems which waste tons of water. Very interesting stuff - and of course the state does take intense pride in supplying superior food to the rest of the system, so it behooves everyone to find a solution that will work long term for the future
11:00 back in the early 80s we had a couple of the Nuhn pumps back when I was on the farm. Their shop (at the time) was less than a 1/2 hour from us. Now they have a newer facility out on Hwy 7 at Sebringville west of Stratford, ON.
Thank you my friend Jan for sharing another day different from everyday life, the visit to the agricultural fair in San Francisco. Interesting to see all the "high tech" equipment already used in the new generation livestock industry. Great.🤟🤟
Super happy that you had such a beautiful day to come visit our bridge. I live about 25 minutes north of the bridge in Marin County. Looking forward to the rest of your trip report.
Thanks for taking us along on the tour of the AG expo was allot of fun and seeing all the new technology they have come out with. Looking forward to seeing what is coming next
Looks big and well big! Lots there, wish I could have gone, perhaps in the future. Thanks for showing us around. Hope for more videos on this, your a good host 👍👍
Your video was your interesting. I don't even have a cow, but I watch you all the time. Thank you for all your videos. Jon you do a great job. Your family should be very proud of you. You're a hard worker your whole family is. USA Utah
I sure hope you can find time to see the Redwoods, worth the trip. Also do you notice the people who live in California and the type of clothing they're wearing versus what you are wearing, a t-shirt for you and long-sleeve shirts for them and coats, I noticed some people in the background of this post. Drive by a school and you'll see how the kids are dressed as it is their winter. It's all what you get used to. Have a great trip, I have been to Tulare to the farm show and we had a great time. Technology is great and a lot of changes in the last 30 years plus. Married to a farmer who now works at installing large Delaval milking equipment for rotaries in Minnesota and North and South Dakota and Iowa.
We have Nuhn stuff down here in western NY. Great to see them way over there... What I really like about your own milking set-up is the poop catcher tray... that makes milking a LOT more sanitary. Funny that there weren't any sales displays on those kinds of systems at the ag show, or that you passed over them for this video....
Thanks for showing this! I love trade shows, agriculture and automotive especially, but I’d have no reason to actually attend this. But I love seeing all the new technology and equipment!
I really enjoyed accompanying you on this trip I really like that you are straight to the point and not going around the point here in the Netherlands I have visited a farm with a rotary parlor the owners of that farm said it takes a lot of space but it also takes a lot out of your hands and needs almost no maintenance except for some grease from time to time
Greetings! Question: Did you two suffer from the urge to nap as the weather is so different than home? Your blood is sooo much thicker than Californians that usually if you vacation here from up north that when you sit down for a break you end up taking a snooze? SF area is a bit cooler that LA though so it may not have been as noticeable, but down here 65ºF means put on a sweater. Nice overview of the show! Always interesting to see the future in technologies! Enjoy your trip!!! Hope you can show highlights from one of your farm tours!
Do you know what else is pretty cool? Brians stroll. I have to ask though. How does he come to a stop or what happens when the pace changes to just a casual walk? I didn't see that anywhere in the video
So glad you were showing all the new things they have for dairy and what it could be used on your farm. You always make everything interesting so we want to listen. I'm sorry I didn't get your friends name. Hope to see the other videos on the show. How was the travel to get there?
Hey Jan thanks for taking us along. I really enjoyed that content and have to say you are a natural with the delivery. A Turbo Prop from Calgary to San Fran? I have flown those a few times but I find them a bit claustrophobic and something about having probs just does not feel right to me LOL!
That Dash8 Q400 turbo prop plane was most likely a clip from the Saskatoon to Calgary flight. Then a large commercial turbo fan Boeing/Airbus plane from Calgary to San Francisco.
@@farmguy2400 That is what I was thinking as well. I used to take it from Calgary to Saskatoon and Calgary to Lloydminster. I have also flown in Winnipeg to Saskatoon. It is always fun when you return from an international flight with lots of luggage and your last hop ends up being one of those.
musta been nice to be in California during our winter weather, there is some very impressive equipment on display -- how the HECK would anyone handle a milking herd of 5,000 animals -- Billion dollar farm setup I bet
I know of some farms up milk 10,000 cows and more. Amazing operations but does not cost a billion dollars in the USA, it cost plenty but not a billion.
Great video Jan! Thanks for the tour of the farm show. Nice equipment. Interesting concepts. It was nice to hear you compare what you were looking at with the equipment on your farm. Well done, Jan!
i live outside of regina sask .and we been having crazy wealther . my ex family dairy farm when i live in bc and used to help .love watching your milking videos .
The gentleman talking about the robotic shot giver with communication going directly to and from the office manager records is innovative and a time saver, especially for large dairies. Imagine if it also is tied into the somatic cell count of each cow’s milk and interpretation of what kind of infection the cow has and automatically gives the cow the needed antibiotic shot during that milking or the next milking. Then it sends a message to milking floor personnel to separate the cow into the recuperation barn. Saudi Arabia has a huge dairy that uses the automatic milking machines. Their is a computer that maps out each cows teat placement and then the ear tag is scanned every day for each cow and that is how the computerized milking system has exact placement for efficient milking.
Great awesome video Jan and Ryan , so many new things for dairy. Did u run into welker guys and millennial farmer too he was there. Love all the new equipment! Can’t wait to get back to the Woodstock outdoor farm show .
Not sure exactly what days you were here in Southern California but today is 2/13/22 and it's 82* in Bakersfield California USA where I am so you came for beautiful weather as well.
Hey what’s your review on the Dunlop purfort thermo wellies and do they last? Love the amount of effort you put into your video and reliability uploads!!
When it comes to the world of investing, most people don't know where to start. Fortunately, great investors of the past and present can provide us with guidance.
Wow I know Mr Andrew Jordan. I met him at a conference in california 2019 where he introduced us his business strategy, he helped me cover my student loans
Down on Fisherman's Wharf at peir# 9 or peir# 19, I can't remember, their is a resturaunt called Neptunes. Excellent seafood. I had the Fisherman's Stew, a tomato based mix of everything in the sea. It was delicious. But, their maybe other things avaliable you might choose instead. Have fun!
You were lucky to see the Golden Gate like that, in summer it is mostly covered in fog. Loads of amazing equipment but... the costs must be huge. I think I would be looking for a way of getting the methane, power for you and saving the planet. Need a system with a good payback period.
That's pretty cool Mueller tanks those are built in Springfield Missouri I work for them before Mueller makes all kinds of tanks for everything you can imagine
True, there's a lot of convenience's there, that would make dairy farming so much easier BUT...rest assure...the dairy farmer will PAY dearly for those extra conveniences, too! 💰💸💳💰💸💳💰💸💳
That was my thought too. At the same time a robot for this? are you kidding?? With all these vaccinations in some countries, I guess there is probably a market for one
Hi, I hate to tell you but World Ag Expo isn’t the world’s largest farm show, I’ve actually been there 3 or 4 times, hope your went down to Tipton to see the RBauction yard site, by the way the largest show I’ve been to is Agritechnica in Hanover, Germany in November, unfortunately it was cancelled in 2021, so their plans is next on in 2023, it’s held every two years. The one thing I really liked at World Ag Expo is getting some of those free chocolate milks in the dairy barn.
Funny you calling San Francisco warm made me laugh. I’m not sure about using industrial robot to give shots when things go wrong it could make a terrible mess.
I hate it. I'm in Edmonton and despite the warm weather (for here) there's still ICE which doesn't melt well which means frozen puddles. Don't forget to take your hats off and catch rays. ... Cheers...
