Another awesome video.
I can't thank you enough for your videos.
I do what I can myself and the little tips and tricks have really allowed me to be more professional in the work I do around the house.
Thanks Buddy!
Great

Some how you and your crew make watching concrete dry interesting. I don't know how you do it, but here I am on youtube watching it.
Ty
Great job, and a pleasure to watch. It's nice to see you have 'ownership' of the finished result and all your guys appear committed to the same end. In the UK you'd be sure to get a heavy downpour of rain right in the middle of the finishing straight. Thanks for sharing.
I've been in my share of concrete finishing and rain. Not much fun.
always great work by you and the crew! you guys rock and I love that sombero mate! thanks for sharing!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great professional work to be admired.

i like the fact that you get in the job hands on and build a relationship with your employees ,ive always sId that is important, most company owners wear clothes as if they are going golfing and dont care to talk to employees
Yes I've been there and done that. That's why I do it the way I do
Thank you David Odell. These videos add a little extra to your workload...but for me who lives in norway i find these videos interesting. To see how you people do things in america and how buildings look like and so on...i like these videos
Great

I wish you build everything type of thing as it’s so interesting to listen to you..Thanks for the videos

Seismic code plus building over fill equals a lot of steel in the hole. Southern California in unique in that it not only has earthquakes many subdivision sites are actually built on cut down hills and filled in gullys. No building to usual and customary area practices on that stuff. It all has to be engineered with stamped plans.
Hope to see you guys prospering in the new year. Merry Christmas

Over here in New Zealand we had to continue the vapour barrier into the footings and up the side of the boxing. Made for an interesting puzzle. One job years ago the local authority insisted the barrier be wrapped around a tapered ripping attached to the boxing so it remained in the finished slab. Yep, got to do that one, rip them all down and attach etc, boss still complained it took to long.
What a drag
Fantastic work! It would have been nice to see the finished slab at the end with the forms stripped, or, maybe even the finished product with the entire extension.
I did go back in another video to do the exterior walk way around it.
The room addition was complete at that time
Good work Odell love it
Thanks 👍
Nice work

Another great job. What determines what psi mix you go with? Is it something an engineer decides or is it whatever the customer is willing to pay for? Or something else. Thanks.
In this case, its what's on the plans
I've always preferred a monolithic pour , I feel it's superior to pouring the footings separate then the slab , I feel it's a stronger floor in the long run
I concur
And a Merry Christmas to you too..... from s.e.Kansas

4500 psi. perfect. that concrete is naturally waterproof at that psi. good work.

Whata up Odell I love your work and im always looking at your new videos. I have a question? Im want to make a 45x30 slab for a basketball in my backyard. I wanted steel roll and the guy told me that is not necessary because we are using fiberglass particles. Is that thru or should I spend the extra money ? Please reply :).
I would get steel
Merry Christmas to you.

Hey I love your channel! Quick question, why dont you vibrate the grade beams / footings?
This mix is self consolidating
Nice video, thx!

Are you able to use meshed reinforcement sheets or always single re bar tied together?
Depends on what the drawing calls out.

is it sand under the rebar? and why, would you share? And no vibrator required? Thank you and Merry Christmas!!
Yes sand, protects plastic.

Thank you for your video! Great job! Tell me, it is mandatory to pour sand under the concrete? Thanks!
No its not, you can use clean gravel
@@OdellCompleteConcrete many thanks
Hi david odell i have a question
Can a build a small studio on a foundation 7 inches thick the all pad is 7 inches thick?
And no inspection
No
Is it worth investing in a small power-trowel? A few obstacles in this one I know...
I have two 3' power trowels, but this job is not large enough for them
So is this in California or another seismic area? Lot of rebar in there we mostly use welded wire here.
Southern CA
Quick question
How do you make sure your final floor is level and even so tile guys dont struggle to put tile?????
Double check as it stiffens up
I need an Odell Concrete tshirt! How do I get one

What type concrete pump do you use?
I dont know.
You guys had to have an inspector watch as you placed the concrete? It was just a monopour foundation. Merry Christmas David
Around here its anything over 2500 psi for structural.
M C
Why did you put sand on your vapor barrier? Just to keep it from blowing around? Im just curious.
Yes
Are the concrete pours you perform requiring engineered drawings to designate rebar spacing, footer width and depth and thickness of foundation? How can I figure all of this out without paying for engineering?
Go by code it normally tells you what is expected engineering plans are most times only required when your going above 1 story elevation...
Can you tell me the name of the blue braces holding 5/8” bolts in place ( 2 1/2” in ). Thank you as I have never seen them before in Scotland.
I don't recall
@@OdellCompleteConcrete thank you as much appreciated.
Nice 👍
TY
That's a really long hose and also very slender. Doesn't seem very heavy. We always used 4" or 6" and had a couple guys with hooks to move it around. No rake men and no laser level? Although that crete does look really easy to work with. No vibrating screed either. No duct tape on the bolts to keep concrete off the threads.
When you have a good pumper you don't need guys on rakes, or have to worry about slopping concrete on bolts.
Why do you put the plastic down? As a moisture barrier?
Vapor barrier
what are the pro's and cons of having or not having fly ash?
The pros are less money for fly ash, take longer to dry.
Cons takes longer to dry,
man oh man thanks for this video it is very similar in a way for i want to do from corona ca lol .
Great
GL
I love the two guys in the back that just sat there drinking beer watching the whole time
Awesome
Good job following the code and doing it right. Unfortunately, codes and inspections have gotten out of control. This is why home ownership is out of reach for many folks.
Well said
I kinda skipped around in the vid. Interesting to watch. How do you assure that the center is at the same elevation as the outer edges, to eliminate high or low spots.
We had screed pins set to rod off of

Can you pour like this against a block foundation?
Sure
How come you don't put control joints in slabs like this?
Its optional
What is something like that cost square foot or how do you charge?

Why the difference in psi? Seems to add greater cost to have a deputy inspector standing around. Have you done a vid on different psi and I missed it? Great vid, so much better than that other SoCal concrete guy... you just have a calm presence and aren’t trying to blow smoke up my tailpipe.
We have to go by the drawing or it want pass inspection.
The higher the psi the harder the concrete is.
Maybe you said in the video but I didn't catch it. Why do you not vibe those footings?
Introduces air in to the concrete with this mix design, and that's not good.
:)..Must be nice to have a frost line so shallow...Ours are 36"...Not as bad as New York and up north which go down to 4 feet.
Yes its beach weather everyday here

Please sir can you do at least one video on how to install a wooden fence that uses wooden rails for planks for side of houses. Maybe you can record a contractor who specializes in wooden fencing. I cannot find a video on youtube that shows the steps to a residential installation of a 5-8ft wooden fence that use rails for the planks.
good idea
How much does a job like this cost
Dave, It seems as though this is a pretty typical build there in Cali. The inspectors, are they from the county or is this is a City requirement? Here in Pennsylvania, there are a line of "Goombas" that show up for the cash grab. Merry Christmas Dave I hope you got that new broom you asked Santa for -50% Horse Hair no more no less. ;-)
I was thinking Zebra hair.
When they want it rougher I go with pig hair
This is City requirements
Excellent job! We always throw some gravel on top of the plastic to keep it in place. Is there a special reason for the sand?
same as gravel.
slip joint and hydration
How do you know you have 2inches of sand down string ???

How much $$ was the rebar for this project?

Sure those condos are built to bare minimum code. The floor being 2 inches about the sidewalk is crazy. Hope it doesn't rain too much or there will be water in the house. I know you just pour what is on the plans and are following existing slabs, but these builders save every nickel they can.
What condos?
Good drainage around the house will solve this
@@OdellCompleteConcrete so many buildings around, I though it was a condo addition. Haha.
Merry Christmas. Concrete for everyone! 8:49

Hello! Please tell me, these meialline stakes, bevels, to which you attach the formwork boards, are they properly called, are they made serially, from a store or are they homemade, from what? Cut out of sheet metal?
I wish I could watch the rest of the build
