I was at beacons closet yesterday, very much high-end. They need to take it easy, I walked out of that store with two items only. The prices are ridiculous.

Urban Jungle was one of the first thrift stores I went to, so I was shocked by the prices of curated vintage shops in Manhattan. There is a newer Thrift shop on 14st near Party City called Thrift NYC. Probably the cheapest thrift store in Manhattan that isn't Goodwill. Doesn't mean it's affordable, but it mostly high quality pieces last I went so I'd say worth the splurge

The new stuff in regular retail stores also costs cents on the dollar but is marked up for the design/curation/buyer element, plus paying wages, rent, decor, taxes, advertising, utilities, etc. and generating profit. Thrift stores have the same expenses and pressures: their stock is just purchased secondhand instead of being cheaply and more wastefully produced new abroad. New York rents are super expensive, that’s why even non-curated thrift store prices are higher than, say, in the midwest.
I feel for outdoor market sellers, especially: the spots are expensive, you have to get up at the crack of dawn, load everything up and unload it, stand outside all day in all weather with no bathroom access, then load everything up again with no idea of how much money you’ll make or even whether you’ll break even, let alone earn enough to pay yourself a decent hourly wage + profit for your living expenses. The prices reflect all that work plus the searching, selection and cleaning that has gone into the stock.
Great video! Thanks for all the legwork.

yes, completely understand that! nyc rent prices are HIGH!! i also understand the struggle of setting up shop and transporting products as i do that for my own small business pop ups. it's tough out here!

Thanks for sharing your experiences in New York. Kind of wish I had tried to stay when I was 18 years old there but seemed overwhelming. Always fun to see your adventures!

    Hi Mohuya,
Just tune into this video I think the vintage stores are very useful and convenient. For me, I would make really good use of, the handbags and look out for the brands.

Nice video, I think the jacket is from Guatemala, because of the quetzal (the bird😅) motive.

I’m so mad you shared urban jungle. I’m a gatekeeper and been shopping there for 15 years. Now all the transplants are going to hike the prices up. Yuck. Nice video though.

Thrift stores aren't what they used to be. They're more like high-end end clothing outlets. Just with one-of-a-kind finds. And I am a born and bred New Yorker

Let me add the best thrift stores have been priced out of the market, due to the rental market. Also these stores had decent prices and good items for sale, but with the rental market and a new type of clientele, these places are gone. So We All lose 😕

Its so funny. I was supposed to go to that GW outlet in queens when I was visiting my cousin a few months ago, but it was 1 mile away from where I was and it was 100° out so I couldn't walk there and it was way too expensive to uber. If you guys have a car or can get to the bins in Hackensack, NJ - its a really great location! Its huge and they had a pretty good selection!

NYC thrifting is dead, nothing is cheap anymore, I get better vintage pieces off of ebay best offers then I do at NYC thrift shops, Ltrain jacked their prices up like 10x what they were just 4 years ago they never has sales, they dont do returns and they let pieces sit forever at high prices that never sell instead of lowering the price to sell it. The thrift game got taken over by greed. If you dont have a plug to a raghouse you aint getting rare pieces.
