As a tuba player, this makes my heart stone cold. Because the intonation issues/blasting occurring in this video are awful. Especially for a high school band. I mean, not to be that guy, but this is just the truth.
@@trainsmusicandmore877 exactly. I don’t get it. Just cause we’re tubas don’t mean we gotta play loud and splat (as I call it) lol. Most tubas don’t even read they just blast.
For all you who dont know what those are, they're contrabass bugles. Or marching tubas. Its a concert tuba flipped 90 degree and with a mouthpiece extension
Me: “I got the tuba for my instrument!” Friends: “bruh y? U have to carry that thing.” Me: “bruh, I’ll get a tuba for home and a tuba for school, so haha. I only have to carry the mouthpiece.”
@@slymarbo2559 yeah, my school does school owned for the expensive instruments, and to those who cant afford it. I was talking about the one for home. Unless you school has enough for you to take 2? They had to buy extra ones this year just for everyone to have 1.
honestly this sounds bad but it makes me so happy to see them have that much confidence. also for those who were won the song or piece that they were playing is called "sonic boom". but I'm a tuba player to but it makes me happy to see them try
All these people and kids thinking that these are not tubas or that they play horrible. 1. They are contrabass bugles (marching tubas) which generate a different, more intense tone than concert tubas. 2. You try playing these things outside see if you do better. The Stupidity in these coments is just unreal.
There's nothing wrong with saying they didn't articulate properly. It's true and you can hear it unless you're deaf. They weren't even mocking them or anything. Some of them can probably play the the tuba. It has nothing to do with the difficulty. It's there and they're just pointing it out.
The arrangements is lit, the tuba quality. Ehhh not so much😅 work on making the sound more clear and precise. And stay together. We play Sonic Boom also
You need to realize this is probably recorded on some guys phone not a professional camera crew and on top of that i think it sounds nice for what it is
Brennan Angus technically they are a member of the bugle family. As competitive marching rules changed, they allowed them to have more valves starting with one rotary and one piston, to three valves and eventually 4. If I am not mistaken it is the only member of the bugle family with valves.
TheZerogravityzones actually, bugles were originally in the key of G. The rules changed like you said and horns were allowed to have valves but eventually switched out of G. In this case, these are B flat marching tubas, not bugles.
First thing for all of you, these aren't sousaphones, theyre not tubas, they're contras. Second, for all you haters, some Sonic Boom arranegemts are harder than others, and it is not easy to double tounge on a tuba becasue of the mouthpiece size. Practice makes perfect.
The contrabass range on a normal tuba is BBb. These horns are in BBb. Therefore contrabass tuba. The bass tuba is either f or EB. Sub contrabass is in FF
I also play tuba but i am in concert band and my teacher didn't have enough tubas beaus at our school we 11 tubas so he decided to give me sousaphone to practice on XDDD
Calisong The contra bugle is better made for marching band than the sousaphone. The sousaphone was made to project the bass line over the band in concert.
As a tuba player, this makes my heart happy
I whant to play something like this
Same

I thought Sousaphones were marching Tubas
+Statix Plays Sousas are a whole different instrament ment to fill in for a tuba in marching bands.
Oh ok by they seem so similar
+Statix Plays They are and for all practical purposes are both tubas but technically are different in range.
+Statix Plays sousaphones wrap around the body. the contrabass goes on the shoulder

Dirty ass articulation lmao
Everett Lewis hard to double tongue on tuba cause the mouthpiece takes up your whole mouth
Justin Carrothers yea i know i play tuba myself and sonic boom is a hella easy fanfare
Everett Lewis YES IK RIGHT. IT ISNT EVEN THAT HARD TO DOUBLE TOUNGE 😂😂 I PLAY TUBA
Double tonguing is cheating

You could technically get a lot of money if you were fast / strong enough to steel all the tubas
thats sonic boom and i love playing it
some good tunes XD

They are tubas, BBb Marching Tubas. Contrabass Bugles were phased out in the 90's.
Never heard of marching tubas?
It's not hating when they're just stating the truth. They're not even mocking them for it.
song us called snake pit its for baritone trombones and tubas
I wish my director would let us play that
Good work is greate
Sonic boom is legendary
nice
Now I'm happy I chose tuba in middle school band

Aye
Ahhhh I want my section to have more then three tubas 🥺
Look at all the experts in the comments.
Gentry Walker the thing is tho, they’re not good
You mean the ones critisising their articulation? It's true. Don't need to be an expert to hear it.
me too
Commonly known as Tuba 3.
Sonic boom. I play the solo part for my tuba section
*contrabass bugle
Finna boi all of y’all calling these contras. That there is a marching tuba
Sebastian Gutierrez Contra bugles and marching tubas are the same thing. Just 2 names for the same thing
Luke Gratz no they aren't. Contras are in G, Tubas are in BBb
Contra still isn't wrong, as it is a contrabass tuba.
That Contra Guy boy no. Look up a contrabass tuba and tell me you can put that shit on your shoulder.

damn they cold like 2 degrees cold 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Damn this an old sonic boom
Easy money
We do this too, snake pit right? We use all brass and battery, sounds beautiful, and we mesh it together with rolling thunder
Hey do you know the music for snake pit for tuba please let me know man
And snake pit/sonic boom (the name of the song) is a great song
Proof that this was a tuba song not trombone or baritone :)
Where can I find this music
I only have a baby size tuba
It's really called Snake Pit.
We call this sonic boom
I also play tuba but i am in concert band and my teacher didn't have enough tubas beaus at our school we 11 tubas so he decided to give me sousaphone to practice on XDDD
Sonic boom 👀👀👀👀👀
What count off is 5,6,7,8
this is known as Snake Pit.
y'all need to look up Vidor High School Kicking Brass, just do it.
Articulation on fleek
this song sounds better on trombones
What if I took my regular tuba and made it do that even though it's a bugle
Leave it to the bones tbh
My school does this
Me too
🐍
Did they do away with the wrap around tubs? Sousaphone.
no, these are marching tubas (contrabass bugles) and drum corps use them. They sound better and can put out noise easier, but are more expensive.
this song is called tank or sonic boom i cant remember which one it is, this is amazing but its better trombone
sounds better on trombone at our school
why are they holding concert tubas on there shoulders

Really never likes snake pit on tuba, but I respect then for trying
I play trombone
No, shoo!
Ha
Does someone have the notes?
No but you can use your hearing.
I'm wondering why they aren't using Sousaphones.
Calisong The contra bugle is better made for marching band than the sousaphone. The sousaphone was made to project the bass line over the band in concert.
Luke Gratz Ah okay. Thank you.
this is like crack if it were good
What kind of tuba is that???????
Where are the Tubas?? I see a Contrabass line... ❤️
These are marching tubas in Bb. If you want to see Contrabasses, travel back to the 80’s when people actually used them.
