    There are good reasons why people think this is a parody of _House M.D.,_ but it's directly based on a short-lived show called _Shark_ with James Woods. _Shark_ *completely* stole the _House_ structure, but using prosecutors instead of doctors. There's some stuff in this sketch (e.g., the cane) that's based directly on _House,_ but it's mostly it's that _Shark_ was ridiculously derivative. (E.g., the "needn't tell me" boss he used to sleep with is all really taken from _Shark,_ even though _House_ did the same thing first.) Basically _Shark_ borrowed so much that they were lucky they didn't get sued for copyright infringement. (I would bet some _Fox_ lawyers talked about it.)

    It reminds me slightly of a scene in the old and proper "Brideshead Revisited" when Charles Rider, the character played by Jeremy Irons, takes home a friend to sup with him and his father, played by Sir John Gielgud. His father intentionally pretends that his son's friend is American (although he's English and he's perfectly aware of this) and so in his make-believe scenario tries to adapt to his American culture by asking things like: 'And how about your national sport, cricket?' It's unclear whether he actually thinks cricket, and not baseball, is an American national sport, or just pretends to get it wrong. Though not played for comedy, the scene becomes incredibly hilarious.

    I like that Robert Webb plays the writer and Speedo's actor (the first one) and no one bats an eye.

    Man i replayed the ending so many times with the name of the song on the tip of my tongue, but i just couldn't remember what it was. Then I come back 20 minutes later, hear 2 notes, and BAM. The Police - Every Breath You Take. Weird how that works.

    The funny thing is that this skit is a parody of US courtroom drama series Stark which was almost as ridiculous as this, but was an actual drama, not a comedy.

    • @Hellwyck
      @Hellwyck 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      oremfrien It was Shark which starred James Woods and Jeri Ryan

    • @oremfrien
      @oremfrien 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hellwyck
      Yes. I forgot that James Woods's character was Stark but that the show was called Shark. Thanks for the correction. The show was hilariously ridiculous, though.

      oremfrien I personally loved it, it was like Monk - so larger than life it was amazingly good.

      I never said that I did not like it, only that it was hilariously ridiculous. It was written as legal/criminal procedural drama, but came off as a parody of the genre more than another Law & Order. I liked that approach.

      oremfrien you might want to calm down a bit son, I didn't say you didn't like it - I SAID I DID - big difference.
