    It's hard to explain, but seeing someone as dominant as Usman go stiff felt far more surreal than a normal KO. I almost felt like CG or something, like the impossible had happened. I'm not sure if anyone else felt this way but it was a seriously unreal feeling, kind of like Tony getting KO'd by Chandler or when Silva broke his leg.

    • @forwardmoving8252

      @@forwardmoving8252 I didn't say they were equally surprising, I said equally surreal. Tony's chin had held up incredibly to that point; I'm saying it feels unreal to see someone like that go limp. And for the second point I can agree to a degree, I debated on which one to choose between the KO and leg snap, but for me a limb breaking out of no where is at the very least equal to a knockout of that magnitude.

    Dr. Sutterer, may you speak on the effect of competing at high altitudes, as this was demonstrated at the UFC 278 event held in Utah. There were many fighters who appeared very tired by the second round. This happened to fighters who trained weeks prior to the event in the same conditions. Is it possible to overcome our physiological responses in high altitudes or become acclimated to a new environment? If so, how long does it take, and in that length would they be at risk for right sided heart failure?

      Compare that to when Edwards had some success early, and then proceeded to get thoroughly dominated for 24 minutes. He does some hip feints and throws a jab cross headkick and Usman is sparked unconscious at the last minute. The instantaneousness of it is what was so shocking IMO

    Great video, Doc! On point as always. Congratulations to Edwards for a spectacular victory over one of the most dominant fighters in the history of MMA. His head kick is very similar to how George St-Pierre defeated Matt Hughs in their second fight to become the welterweight champ. A series of lead left leg body kicks caused Hughs to attempt to guard low and lean to his right while the shin of GSP came up to the head. Edwards attacked Usman throughout the fight with series of rear left leg roundhouse kicks. This caused Usman to guard the right side of his body while leaning to the right which ultimate lead to the fight-ending head shot. Such a great fight. Congratulations, champ!

    It is incredible what these types of knockouts can cause you, the only way to recover is to take a few years off from these types of blows and I don't know if it is something that Usman has because of his age and his desire to return. Definitely this KO is going to affect his ability to take hits in the next fights

    • @greuju
      @greuju ปีที่แล้ว +9

      After like 4000 elevation everything is markedly harder. More oxygen is needed and less is available due to elevation. Pretty simple. For me it makes stuff feel like 30% harder, but the drain that occurs when you're not getting the oxygen for long enough. You can get really lethargic.
      I think that's what happened to quite a few fighters. If you exert yourself too much too fast you gas yourself out because the muscles aren't actually getting the oxygen they need

    Listen.. As covington fan, i tuned in to see usman lose. Granted i had zero doubts he would lose.. Not a fan of usman but ive been forced to respect him. However, i couldnt help but feel bad for him for some reason. The guys family was all there. His brother was his corner man. Trevor whitmans now went from best coach 2 years going to 2022 where his main pupul's have now went 0-4 with 3 coming from finished. Niel magny gaethje rose & usman. That same token like Masvidal was fed a rotten & raw slice of karma cake from throwing essentially 3 of his hardest thrown cheap shots to askren after he had already very clearly had went to sleep, and then went on mock ben on it and even had a 10x10 foot blown up pic of his knee landing on askrens head in the entrance of American top team. Which 2 years later hed get a his 2nd undeserved title shot with home field advantage got absolutely slept virally by usman infront of all his family friends and peers.
    Then usman would go on to mock Jorge for getting slept by him every chance he could. And without question usman was looking past edwards. So much so that after he dominated Edwards for the first 29 minutes he thought he was safe to be reckless with a minute left... Usman is human. And as a matter of fact he made a terrible mistake, one that a guy with his experience absolutely knows better of. Usman is still pfp #2 atleast.
