Flipped Kayak in Etowah River Mine Tunnel

- THE ETOWAH MINE TUNNEL IS DANGEROUS! Bring a very bright light if you plan to kayak this tunnel. It is pitch black in the middle and there are rapids and obstacles throughout. My head lamp failed mid tunnel and everything went completely black. I made it about 20 yards in the dark. Then I hit the ledge in the tunnel, a 3 or 4 foot drop of heavy flow whitewater. Which flung me into the wall, in the dark, where i flipped. I got might light working again in the water, swam for my kayak, righted it and self rescued. I lost 2 fishing poles and a GoPro Hero 7 Black, attached to a ReFuel Battery Charger and part of a camera mount.

I have still yet to run the tunnel but I'm really wanting to. I live minutes from the river in Euharlee but haven't traveled to the northern run of the Etowah yet. I NEED TO....

Man I'm sorry to hear that you flipped over. It would have been all good if you didn't lose any merchandise. It's time to find a way to tie everything down to the kayak man. Go Pros ain't cheap. Other than what happened was the kayak trip good.
Man, on one hand that was an expensive and unfortunate loss. On the other hand, you got an excuse to buy a new camera and two new fishing combos. Lose/Win situation.

Be careful here. We went in April of 23, water wasn't right and it was pretty extreme.

I wonder if a chute on the front or back would help keep you straight in there SOT are notorious for flipping with tail water just watch any surf fishing video
Where are your lights? Who, in their right mind, would go into such a place without lights? That's a rookie mistake 😬.
I had 2 head lights that were under powered and one failed near the middle of the tunnel. I'll definitely be upgrading to a high powered light for when we go back.
That is not where I would want to flip over. I hope you had better lighting than the camera picked up.
That’s why I flipped. Head lamp failed half way though.
