If GlamGlow was still relevant now, they would have gone wild with a Wicked launch. I can see the metallic green and pink glitter face masks as clear as day XD
The minute I saw the title of your video, I instantly said Estée Lauder! I truly believe their goal is to buy out smaller companies and eventually allow them to fizzle out. Less competition and keeps the buyers focused on the flagship brand. MAC was the best in the late 90’s through early 2000’s when they were still owned by the founders.
I totally fell for glamglow from youtubers. Back in the day when "if it hurts that means its working" and the unknown reason fir needing glitter chunks in your face mask 😅
Same! I remember getting a sample size mask and it was like queen helene mint julep levels of drying so I thought it was doing such a good job with my oily skin. So painfully and damaging.
I got one of their masks for dry sensitive skin and IT BURNED! For whatever reason, I thought the burn and subsequent redness meant it was working. I remember talking to a friend and she stared at me like I had 2 heads and said that if something burns my skin, stop using it. It makes sense now but idk... at that time, it seemed like burning was supposed to be good.
@@lakemi Yeah, because burning and redness are immediate reactions to the skin, which proves that the skincare is actually impacting your face. Usually with skincare with safe formulations/uncommon or zero allergens, you have to wait for weeks-months to get confirmation that its actually working and that its that specific product thats doing it. When the skincare is burning you, a lot of people think "if i am getting burns and redness from this, clearly the chemicals are immediately reacting with my skin, and so not only is the product powerful, but the pain is a trade-off that I don't mind dealing with." its an innocent assumption but chemicals are chemicals and research should be done before and during use just like with medicine. burning is never good.
You know when animals have really crazy colors to warn others, because they're so poisonous? Yeah, that's exactly the effect the glamglow packaging has on me with my sensitive skin with rosacea 😂
I was at Sephora 2 days ago and witnessed a facial cream that was so vaguely similar to Glam Glows moisturizer, and it was nearly half the price. But when mentioning it to the brand ambassador, neither one of us could pinpoint the name I was referencing. It was like a forgotten memory. Thank you for scratching that spot in my brain.
Having Solange and Beyoncé on your client list before an official launch is very impressive. Not to discount their hard work, but it makes me realize how so many talented peoples only barrier to success is not already being in close proximity to successful people.
I bought it in 2012 when it launched at Sephora, and it really was SO amazing. At the time, though, I couldn’t afford to buy it often and after awhile it fell out of my rotation. I decided to try it again years later for a special event and have never been so disappointed in my LIFE. I still mourn the original formulation!
Went to my local TK Maxx in Edinburgh today and about half of the skincare they had stacked on the shelves was Glam Glow. I kept shoving their stuff out of the way and asking myself 'what is this tacky looking brand'. So you posting a video about Glam Glow today was perfect timing! 😄 Thanks for the little history lesson!
I was working at Sephora when this launched. I don’t know how much Sephora cast members get paid now but when I was working for Sephora I couldn’t afford a $69 Glamglow and many of us would just get the small sample jars and fill it with the product just so we could use it. I had liked it at first but I was also part of the “if it’s burning, it’s working” bandwagon 😭 eventually I stopped using it because it began to really irritate my skin. There was one that I did like from them though and it was the vitamin c mask, it had such a nice smell to it. Just the other day I was in Sephora replenishing my skincare items and I thought “damn, whatever happened to glam glow?” I remember when they had their own shelves and end caps and now it’s like they never existed. Good times…
Well ya took me on a roller coaster when you said Estee Lauder bought them out. I was like “oh no! That’s the end of their brand” and then you said “it was for $200M-$220M” and I was thrilled for them! Whoooo so many emotions in 30 seconds 😂

I really loved Glam Glow at the time. That’s how I got into skin care and those products were fun, smelled good and worked so well for me. I really miss some of them.
So happy you’re safe and now somewhere a little more comfortable than the hotel. Prayers to you, your loved ones and EVERYONE affected by these CA wildfires ❤ stay safe babe!
Me, too! They worked really hard well and were definitely part of my routine before special events and when my skin was acting up. As I got older, I started tretinoin and some other stuff recommended by my dermatologist for anti-aging, but I still think Glamglow would be great for one-offs if it was easier to find.
Supermud was THE product when I first started getting into skincare. We all bought the mini so you could put little dots on your problem spots and still feel like a celebrity for $20.
I always had oily skin and pores you could skateboard in and Ive always adored Glam Glow skin products. They just worked for me. Their masks are greatness. My makeup always looked beautiful on my aging skin after a Glam Glow mud mask. Oh and the Bright Eyes undereye brightener! Amazeballs
I remember wanting the Sonic masks back in the day. Never ended up purchasing anything from there as I was in the start of my mindful purchasing era that helped me with cutting back on my spending addiction.
The only Glam Glow product I used was the Supermud mask which I got as a Rewards Bazaar sample at Sephora. I bought the full size and had to back off from using it because it irritated the drier skin on my cheeks. Compared to the K-Beauty products I am using now, they were so harsh and didn’t deliver that much for the price point.
Please talk about Farmacy beauty and how they've become after being acquired. They are not the same at all! Ingredients have totally changed and now their packaging is worse 😢
People can say the beginning of the end was when they got bought by estee, but i think the products they released and how absolutely painful they were, was actually the real beginning of the end. I tried 2 masks, and both burnt and made my face red and painful, and broke my already acne prone skin out.
Agreed. I think they got too caught up in trying to stay relevant and innovative that they allowed themselves to fall into the realm of gimmicks and tricks rather than being a solid product that worked, and I wouldnt be surprised if the losses sustained from that shift in quality lead to them being bought out by estee lauder
I work in the video game industry, so receiving the Sonic mask in PR was my introduction to Glam Glow. I think I bought one or two more after that and just forgot about them.
I had the black one with stars in it because my 90s baby heart was honestly obsessed with the silver stars ✨ ✨️🤦♀️face mask aesthetic. Lol I think i just liked that it made me feel fancy while doing my face mask
I had completely forgotten about this brand. I used to see the biggest beauty influencers using them back in the day. Just shows how fleeting the beauty space is.

Just now watching this but omggg I loved Glamglow. I worked at Dillards when it was a big brand for us and they actually had some lovely moisturizers. And randomly they had a really good setting spray that smelled like an orange creamsicle?? Crazy how they fell off and you never hear about them anymore
Girl the way I was soooo excited to try glam glow back in the day cos of the hype but the second I used it my skin was BURNING- luckily it was just a sample lmao
I remember as a teenager how bad I wanted to get a glam glow mask and I finally got a sample from the Sephora birthday gift. I put it on my skin and almost immediately got a HORRIBLE chemical burn all over my face. My skin was dark red for a whole day and I was mortified
I was literally just thinking about this brand yesterday! 😂 I had samples of it and worked well for me but I never bought it because I was always broke when it was really popular.
Glam glow was such an amazing brand, I loved the supermud but it wasn’t a weekly treatment for me because it was way too harsh. I did love the hydrating mask, I even wore it on a 12 hour flight and my skin felt amazing 😁
I was maybe 18 when I feel like they started to drop off. I just remember that Skincare TH-cam was popping off and so were AM and PM skincare routines and ppl really starting to look at AHAs and BHAs and scrutinising every little ingredient. I also remember it was a rite of passage to mess up and burn your skin barrier

I spotted a small section of GlamGlow products at an Estée Lauder outlet store this past Friday (10 January). If this had been 10 years ago, I would have been thrilled and purchased. I bought nothing.
Based on their track record of acquiring brands only for those brands to start to fizzle out,an Estee Lauder outlet sounds like a beauty graveyard 💀 I didnt even realize they had outlets like that
It's so wild, when I was younger my mom would buy glam glow for me and her and I had no idea it was as big as it was until a few years ago when I had to track it's numbers in a luxury department store I managed 😅 The gravity mud was my all time favorite!!
My mom actually just found a Glam Glow face wash I'd given her in like 2017?18? She wanted to know if she could still use it 😂😂 I have no idea where she had it stashed 😂😂 I remember using Glam Glow sheet masks with my husband back in the day, the one in the black & silver packaging with stars on it, pretty sure it bubbled too 😂
When this brand first came out I was in college. The mud transformed my acne-covered skin and made it look fantastic! I was enamored and recommended it to everyone. Years later, the masks really weren't doing great things for my skin anymore. Dont know if it was due to the company's move or what.
I remember posting a comment a few years back about this on your channel and it's now here 😆 didn't want to drop name so it was a bit cryptic 😂 but so glad you covered it ❤
I was like 16/17 when the hype was huge for this brand and one of the first “luxury” products I got myself was the glitter peel mask they had, I also got the shiny blue sonic one 😅
Your camera set up is SO GOOD! Like, there's someone I follow and her new set-up for some reason just makes her look blurry or lower quality, and she's saying how she's worked so hard to have the best settings, but it just looks so bad to me and just seeing your's in comparison like, you're sharp and clear, like how I can get super high settings on my mobile (the reason I bought it so I could test YouTubing recording with it). Anyway!! TLDR you look super sharp and high res
@ really? I find that interesting. Because he sits at the bus stop, takes the subway, talks to the homeless, and rides a motorcycle. It hardly seems that he would go to a Hollywood party and talk about his skin. But, I guess there’s always something that you don’t know about people!
@@Barb6106 nah I just mean that if someone’s skin is really uncomfortable it’s bound to cause complaints. I am thinking along the lines of it being so uncomfortable that it becomes distracting. Stressed out skin can have a tendency to make itself known one way or another.
I only ever tried Glamglow item once when my cousin gave me a sample size of glamglow mask. I can’t remember which variant. it worked as any mask would at first try, my setback is the price. My mother worked at Estée Lauder, she always said that plenty of dupes of expensive skincare/makeup available at fraction of price n often than not even more effective.
@sofiakohn5681 ahahaha! I kept using and was so confused why I kept getting spots. No moisturiser because was under impression oily teenagers didn't need it. My poor teenage skin barrier 😓
@@LaNimrodelle it never helped I know! I'd use clean and clear and the Neutrogena grapefruit wash too, I needed an intervention I'm surprised my skin survived 🫠
I used to want Glam Glow so badly during my junior year of high school in 2017-2018😅 I'm glad I never had them because I probably would've wrecked my skin along with the St. Ives and clean & clear I was using💀
The thing for me was always the price, it felt steep for a mid mask with some acid in it. So I was always super hesitant to repurchase even though I loved the mask.
They were popular around the time I got interested in skincare, I didn’t realise it was seen as a luxury brand with fans and decent products? I just looked at all the essential oils, fragrance, colorings and glitter. I genuinely thought they were cheap and gimmicky, that price is insane to me.
I was obsessed with their hydrating mask back in the day. Tbh the summer fridays jet lag replaced it for me as far as brightening and hydrating years ago.
I really did like the supermud for clearing up the sebaceous filaments on my nose. However, the price was so high I couldn’t replace it when it was out! Then I promptly forgot about them!
The beginning of the end of any brand; "Aquired by Estee Lauder"
I see a pattern here 👀
EXACTLY! Where lines go to die

Omg yes!! It dried the smallest moist of your skin out and it also burned as hell because it smelled like ice & peppermint 😂😂😂
My mom actually just found a Glam Glow face wash I'd given her in like 2017?18? She wanted to know if she could still use it 😂😂 I have no idea where she had it stashed 😂😂 I remember using Glam Glow sheet masks with my husband back in the day, the one in the black & silver packaging with stars on it, pretty sure it bubbled too 😂
Love your hair in this video!
I love your deep dives
When this brand first came out I was in college. The mud transformed my acne-covered skin and made it look fantastic! I was enamored and recommended it to everyone. Years later, the masks really weren't doing great things for my skin anymore. Dont know if it was due to the company's move or what.
I remember posting a comment a few years back about this on your channel and it's now here 😆 didn't want to drop name so it was a bit cryptic 😂 but so glad you covered it ❤
Very informative and interesting. Thank you, James!
I was like 16/17 when the hype was huge for this brand and one of the first “luxury” products I got myself was the glitter peel mask they had, I also got the shiny blue sonic one 😅
The first time I saw glam glow, I was working at a giveaway suite for the emmy's (I think) around 2010. So crazy to see their whole journey now!
Am I the only one who finds it hard to believe that Keanu Reeves would be talking about his looks at a party?🤷♀️
Maybe not his looks but I can definitely see him talking about how his skin feels.
Omg! I completely forgot about GlamGlow, but I remember when they first came out and how desperate I was to get my hands on their products!
20:30 I’ve never heard of them so very correct
I loved the Glamglow super toner but only bought it when on sale 😂. Also I’m surprised you didn’t mentioned their lip plumper. That stuff was painful!
Babe, new James video dropped! ❤🎉
Ooh I like what you did with your hair here
I wasn't following the beauty industry then (still in my apricot scrub phase) and I've never heard of this!
Oh god don't remind me, that shit was my daily cleanser 😭
I genuinely thought they were cheap and gimmicky, that price is insane to me.
as soon as you said estee lauder i needed to hear nothing more 😭😭
I remember that youth mud feeling like battery acid on my face and after taking it off my skin was so dry but also smoother than I’ve ever seen it 😂
I was obsessed with their hydrating mask back in the day. Tbh the summer fridays jet lag replaced it for me as far as brightening and hydrating years ago.
I really did like the supermud for clearing up the sebaceous filaments on my nose. However, the price was so high I couldn’t replace it when it was out! Then I promptly forgot about them!
their primer moisturiser was a fave of mine!! i can still smell it in my mind 😂
