Honestly, the part where they talk about the Farm Bill, agriculture subsidies, and economics is possibly the best and most educational part of the documentary.

I have watched this doc over 20+ times. Every year I show it to my jr. high students in my 2 science classes at the end of our plants unit. Living in small town in Central Illinois, I am always surprised at how little most of my jr. high students know about the field corn that is grown all around our community.
I own the DVD, but my DVD player wasn't working this year, so I was thrilled to find the documentary on TH-cam. Thank you for posting it!

I appreciate you sharing this documentary. It unexpectedly sparked my interest in researching land use extensively. One major lesson I gathered is the importance of determining the quantity and reasons behind our production (achieving a proper equilibrium between demand and supply), but more significantly, understanding how land is distributed for various purposes.

This is a really good movie. When I lived in Iowa, people complained it was a hit on the industry, but actually it just describes what goes on. Yeah, corn farmers get subsidies, and HFCS manufacturing is rather gross.

There must be a better balance to this system where we can not only produce cheap food but it must also be nutritional or what's the point? So what if we spend more money or time, if we don't then we lose it at the end anyways. The only ones that benefit are the corporations and the government. A 19 dollar loss on an entire acre of corn is outrageous and then the only way it makes money is if public funds are used to offset the loss? Who and what took over our lives....this is absolutely nonsense and we need to put a stop to it completely. Insane people at the helm.

    • @gilessteve

Basically, the American tax payer is being forced to subsidize the production of junk food. Earl Butz may have considered it to be 'cheap food', but that's before the price of insulin is added in.

    How corn is destroying India?
Farmers not sowing jwar ( millet), thereby people not getting good food, because jwar is better than wheat from mankind health point of view and. It requires less water than wheat. Its stem is very good food for milky animal, like cow, buffeow. I daily go to milkman farm, to take milk. He took corn in two season, so fodder to his animal is corn leaves and stem..Recently, he brought a vitamin medicine for his buffeow. On, it, it is mentioned that, the medicine contain B12 and calcium. How funny it is, that we get B12 and calcium from buffeow milk, but buffeow in not getting it from her food.
